If this problem is really due to a kernel bug (as suggested by Josua
Dietze in comment #38) then wouldn't it go away if grub were used to
boot an older kernel? I'm sure this was one of the things I tried when

just installed the daily build of ubuntu 12.04 (currently 3.2.0-2) and
everything's working correctly. all my 10GB vm images backed up fine.

The GNOEM language selector is completely broken on the current image.
No need to reproduce or provide further info. I already uploaded the
fix, we'll spin another alpha-1 candiate soon.

You're welcome, glad I could help. Phil V. mentioned the workaround was
rebooting the system, actually you only need to close the nautilus
window affected by the bug and open a new one and you're good to go.
