I think that for my part it comes from compiz as explained in post#14
to solve the problem when i do have a general frezze, I do a :
1. CTRL+ALT+F1
2.Login as user.
3. sudo pkill compiz-decorator
4. pkill -9 compiz
5. CTRL+ALT+F7 to go

Wow that linkedIn spam is nasty ... sneaks in like it's from LinkedIn.
Anyhow situation appears to be that Empathy state they cannot run in the
environment offered by Ubuntu, other IM clients can run. The bug should
move to Ubuntu distro ... you are using an IM client which reports
it's not
I tested this in Linux Mint 14 with Cinnamon and Inscape's graphical

Running 12.04 with ubuntu-proposed enabled, all updates installed as of
2012-12-05. I ran the test case described in the bug report and there
was no error.
However, it seems that WLAN passwords are no longer stored in the Gnome
keyring, but in Network-Manager, thus the example wasn't that good,
This bug seems to have been fixed. I recently tried in my two systems
(Ubuntu 12.10 32 bit and 64 bit) and System Log launches correclty after
asking for the password.
