Hello,
I'm using Linux Mint 14 MATE, 3.5.0-23 x64 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 video
card and a ViewSonic VG1921wm monitor.
Using the NVIDIA privative driver I can set the monitor resolution to 1440x900
@ 75Hz in Menu Preferences Monitors. Then with the monitor buttons I
you might need to learn what is a bug and not reporting simple
misconfiguration.

I believe I've reproduced this bug here. Steps to reproduce:
- load something javascripty that angers firefox and makes it very, very laggy
- watch compiz notice this lagginess and helpfully animate the window as
non-responsive (shading), making everything even more laggy
- switch workspaces

Sorry for not including that in my bug report -- it was late last night
and a little bleary-eyed.
I removed the onboard package entirely to get around the problem, I
don't know why I had it installed in the first place.

Upstream said 1.5.0 won't work with ibus 1.4.x, so we need to do the
revert.

The same here. But I seem to have found a workaround. Open a terminal
window and run nohup pidgin . Pidgin does not hang on startup and
remains working after the terminal window is closed.
