I am seeing the same things as reported above, and I am seeing this in
14.04 LTS. I switched to fglrx to try to get rid of the corruption and
still saw it, although it was less than while using the Open Source
drivers for AMD/ATi. Tearfree created other problems so I went back to
Open Source.

daemon/14.04/revision/4020, autodetecting the scaling factor is
disabled, so many issues are hidden.
simple way to fix this is change ubuntu-settings package, set default
value critical-battery-action = 'shutdown', good way is default value
hibernate and fall back to shutdown, but I don't think it worthy to do
because seldom user will enable hibernate.

instead. My changes were included at some point but I still don't see
them in the latest fglrx release.

daemon/support-hidpi-lp1382291 and merge it into lp:unity-settings-
daemon.
For trusty you need based on lp:unity-settings-daemon/14.04 .

I discovered that, even if I checked use network time in the control
panel, the package ntp was not installed (just ntpdate).
This caused a drift in time in my desktop (which is always on); after a
couple of days if I deselect the the option and select it again I have:
