Status in
Happens frequently reading nytimes.com, lots of javascript, high cpu
usage. Mouse begins to be unresponsive then constant hd access, only way
to recover holding down power button to force shutdown. System is
stable otherwise.
Going to have to use another browser

Same issue on Toshiba Z30 after update to 16.04.
When laptop is booted from old kernel (4.2 from Ubuntu14.10) everything is
fine.

Installing the tested recommended driver and rebooting leaves a black
screen. To revert back I have to hard reboot and remove quiet and no
splash from grub. From there I had to TTY and sudo purge nvidia* -y to
have a bootable system.

On an empty workspace open nautilus via left click on launcher , icon should
have nib.

I should add I have no idea what I'm doing; unity -v is the first
command I tried and it reset things. If there's a command to restart
unity without killing off the applications I would prefer it

I am not certain it makes a difference (I haven't tested it yet) but I
believe Chromium did not lock up until after I installed the HWE kernels
in 14.04. It's also possible this started after some update to Chromium,
though I am almost certain it didn't lock up my system as long ago as
the bug
