Ok, so after following the steps I can confirm that setting a new
password for the user after it has been set to not require a password to
log in, does indeed keep the user in the nopasswd group, and so even
though you have set a new password
Btw it might sounds not serious but in fact on my laptop it's
essentially make sound system useless - sound from subwoofer comes very
distorted making almost impossible to distinguish any voice, so no
skype, no movies, no youtube or podcast on ubuntu.
Have to boot to windows only for that

Same here on a XPS 15 9550 running ubuntu 16.10. This issue occurs
randomly at boot for a while now (6 months+).
Sometimes multiple reboot are needed to get the headphone to work. I
tried rebooting alsa or pulse audio and other tricks like alsamixer. But
somehow, I found out that suspend/resume
Pretty simple here -
Will only successfully boot to greeter, ect. when nvidia drivers are installed.
If the drivers aren't installed then it either 'hangs' right after the fs check
on sandybridge or goes to low graphics pop up on haswell.
Once the nvidia drivers are installed then boot ups
