I think it may be something to do with the font antialiasing. When I go
to 100% scaling with no AA, it looks similarly garbled to 125% with
subpixel AA enabled. I'm not sure if that's 100% of the issue, but it
might be a worthwhile lead to chase.

I experienced the same problem (wired AND wireless both down) on KDE
Neon 18.04
Tried several things
- plug in a LAN cable
- restart network service
- 2 reboots
- checked that my router was not down (I had internet access on my cell phone
wifi)
The laptop is dual boot W10-KDE Neon

I added the line as suggested and rebuilt the driver. Unfortunately this
didn't resolve the issue.
I notice the added line references the ALC286 chip rather than the
ALC256 - is there likely to be a different pin mapping between the two
chips? Are there any variations on the above

I have made it working for UX391UA laptop. I am using Linux Mint 19.
What I did:
1. Follow this on how to download and compile linux kernel from sources (I use
4.19.9)
2. check compiled kernel (reboot)
3. Apply 3 patches from here:
