Rico, please log your own bug bug running: ubuntu-bug gnome-shell so we can identify the cause of the leak you are experiencing. nuri, please follow the instructions in comment #8. ** No longer affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Jammy) ** Information type changed from Public to Private -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1995704 Title: Huge memory leak when tiling LibreOffice windows in Ubuntu 22.04 Status in Mutter: Unknown Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Please do the following to reproduce the memory leak I can observe on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5, Ryzen 7 5700U, AMD iGPU, Ubuntu 22.04 with Gnome Shell): Close all programs. Open LibreOffice Calc and tile the window maximised on the LEFT side of the screen. Open a new instance of LibreOffice Calc and tile the window maximised on the RIGHT side of the screen. Now your screen is full with 2 tiled windows of LibreOffice Calc. In the middle of the screen, drag now with the mouse the edge between the tiled windows and move it several times randomly to the right and to the left so that the size of both windows changes simultaneously. Look at the RAM consumption in the system monitor!!! On my machine, with numerous moves of the edge between the tiled windows, I can make my 24GB completely full. Reboot empties the RAM. Can you reproduce it? Is it only related to LibreOffice? My system: Ubuntu 22.04 with Gnome Shell LibreOffice from the official repositories Version: 7.3.6.2 / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 30(Build:2) CPU threads: 16; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: de-DE Ubuntu package version: 1:7.3.6-0ubuntu0.22.04.2 Calc: threaded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mutter/+bug/1995704/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1575128] Re: unity dialogues split between 2 monitors
[Expired for unity (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575128 Title: unity dialogues split between 2 monitors Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Expired Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Since upgrading from Ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04, Unity is now shown across both my monitors in a hard to use manner: unity dialogues, such as the log-out and shutdown popups, are displayed centered between both monitors, so the left half is on one monitor, and the right half on another. Also, the unity top panel indicators and clock used to be on both monitors, but are now only on the right monitor. More info since it is likely relevant: I have a Dell laptop with an NVidia Prime GPU and Intel built-in GPU. This laptop has always been trouble configuring for dual monitors. The nvidia-settings controls only shows one monitor, though it is supposed to show two. I have never been able to get a working xorg.conf for the two monitors, despited 2 days of trying (and I am a software developer well versed in reading docs). The instructions in the nvidia docs simply don't work as stated for this hardware (Dell XPS 17 L702X). Purging all graphics settings doesn't help. Upgrading to a newer nvidia driver didn't help (I've tried the latest official nvidia package as well as one newer). As a result, I've been using an xrandr command and compiz display settings since Ubuntu 15.10. This worked perfectly in 15.10. But, as stated, the unity top panel and dialogues are not working properly in 16.04. I tried Nvidia 361.42 and 364.19 from the PPA at http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu. The xrandr command in use is: xrandr --fb 3520x1080 --output HDMI-0 --preferred --primary --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x0 --panning 3520x1080+0+0/3520x1080+0+0/0/0/-3520/0 --output LVDS-1 --mode 1600x900 --pos 1920x180 --panning 0x0 (I know the fb sets up a wide virtual screen, but as stated, in 15.10, that worked perfectly for unity) In compiz display settings I have the following "Outputs" set: 1920x1080+0+0 1600x900+1920+180 It would appear in 16.04, Unity ignores the compiz outputs whereas in 15.10 it does not. But that's just a guess. Sorry I cannot get a screenshot of the dialogues. They seem to block Ubuntu's screenshot program due to their modal nature. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1642600] Re: PC freeze when turning off screen
[Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1642600 Title: PC freeze when turning off screen Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I have an ubuntu 16.04 PC which was recently upgraded from 10.something to 12.04 and then to 16.04 (I think that is how it went, it was a two day thing with me checking on it now and again to say yes. Now that it is running on 16.04 I have noticed that when I left the PC for a while it locked up. The display was off, the power light on the tower solidly on and the keyboard unresponsive. The Num Lock light was lit but would not respond to key presses, nor would the Caps Lock or Scroll Lock lights. No key presses or short press of a power light would change the system state. The only thing I could do while sat at the PC was hold the power button in to force a power off. When the PC was powered back on everything seemed to be OK. I thought it might be a problem with suspending the PC. I was able to do that manually though. The display went off, the tower fans went quiet and the power light started to blink. Pressing keyboard keys did nothing but a short press of the power button brought the system back online. The only problem being that the Wi-Fi was lost until I restarted the system, not ideal but better than frozen. I attempted to disable the automatic suspend option from the Settings menu but the system still ended up in the frozen state. Next to completely disable suspend by creating a /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.disable- suspend.pkla file as suggested at http://askubuntu.com/questions/452908/how-to-disable-suspend-in-14-04 but the system still ended up frozen. That leaves me to think it was the act of going into the Monitor Disabled state which caused the issue. So I started to report an ubuntu-bug and here I am typing out this description of what I remember doing. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release: 16.04 Memory 2.0 GiB Processor Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4400 @ 2.00 GHz x 2 Graphics Gallium 0.4 on ATI RV515 OS type 64-bit Disk 96.6 GB If there are any further diagnostic steps I can take please let me know. This is a personal machine so I can do most things to it. I am a c/c++ software engineer by trade so although I am not great with the GNU Debugger I can do most things with a bit of instruction. I do not do much Ubuntu or Kernel work so links to getting started guides for how to do anything more specific that git clone or make would be appreciated. [Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1665796 Title: multi-display layout corrupt after reboot or log out/in Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Every time I reboot or log out and back in again, The layout of the displays is incorrect. Correcting the layout is a bit 'hit and miss' as the changed layout is not always applied correctly. There was a massive improvement after upgrading to 16.04 from 14.04. Previously, the upper display did not render pixels consistently. The upgrade corrected this. The upper display (29") is connected to the NVIDIA Corporation GK107 [GeForce GT 740] display card and the lower display (23") is connected to the on-board Intel Integrated Graphics Controller. I hope this information is useful. Thanks for your efforts... Mouse moves but none of the buttons work! Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I start it up and everything goes fine for maybe the first two minutes of whatever I'm doing. then all of a sudden I can't click anything. Also I want to close a window, move the cursor over the X, going backward and forward with my mouse buttons but I can't. I can push right click, try to kill the window but then I can't confirm because I can't click 'yes.' I can't even power down normally because I can't click 'yes' when the duologue appears. Very annoying. when I had windows 7 and 8 it happened and with so much searches that I did nothing worked so I did not use my gaming mouse for months and after a long time I did plug in my mouse and there was no problem. rightnow I have Ubuntu 14.04 for one year and this problem happened again. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1993557] Re: Nautilus "Files" hangs when trying to type search string
Sebastien, Sorry, haven't had time to pursue this recently... A little more searching led me to this question: https://askubuntu.com/questions/346211/tracker-store-and-tracker-miner-fs-eating-up-my-cpu-on-every-startup What I see appears completely similar. The syslog gets huge, filled with messages such as: (tracker-miner-fs-3:7665): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: 22:26:55.266: g_file_equal: assertion 'G_IS_FILE (file1)' failed Following the discussion at https://gnome.pages.gitlab.gnome.org/tracker/faq/#how-can-i-disable-tracker-in-gnome I have executed systemctl mask --user --now tracker-miner-fs-3.service This seems to have solved my problem: syslog has stopped filling my hard drive, and the nautilus search in Files is back to normal functioning. I don't know what I may be missing without tracker-miner, though. Thanks again for your help - let me know if trying to get further debug information could be useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1993557 Title: Nautilus "Files" hangs when trying to type search string Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi, I recently installed Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (dual boot installation on a new Dell XPS15 laptop shipped with Windows 11 Pro). Nevermind, I see what happened... I can also confirm this bug in ubuntu 20.04.5 / gnome version 3.36.8 / X11. Turning the pointer location feature off (gnome-tweaks), the left control key is working again. It happens in remote sessions only, in particular with the citrix workspace app. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872230 Title: The left Ctrl key does not work with key combos when using pointer location in Xorg sessions Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I am using 20.04 Focal. After I had rebooted my system today and so loaded the newest GNOME Shell, the left Ctrl key stopped working in the terminal windows and also in emacs, while the right Ctrl still works. To get the left Ctrl working again I have to switch to a plain US English keyboard layout, without dead keys. I have also tried the different alternatives of US International keyboard layouts, each of them seems to work as intended but the left Ctrl key is not working. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995761] Re: Xorg crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995766] Re: X server segfault when starting youtube videos
It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1995766 Title: X server segfault when starting youtube videos Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This is an intermittent bug; happens perhaps 1-3 times a week. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995800] Re: drag and drop
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu that you are using. Thank you for your bug report, could you check if there are any warning in the journalctl log when you hit the issue? ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1995810 Title: occasionally fails to open a directory with images Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I open a local dir containing about 100 jpg photos and a subdir. Nautilus shows a "loading..." indicator in the lower right corner, but it never shows the contents of the directory. It should show thumbnails of the files in the directory. This happens occasionally. It is very simple to work around - just go to e.g. the parent dir and come back to the offending dir - but it's still mildly problematic and nautilus is used by effectively every gnome user. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1957909] Re: NetworkManager connectivity check fails
Could be transient issues with one of the servers as described in https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/network-manager-connectivity-check- problem/ though we haven't got reports of the problem recently... ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1957909 Title: NetworkManager connectivity check fails Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I randomly receive "No internet connection available" notification, even if my internet connection is stable. (Not the exact term) In /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/20-connectivity-ubuntu.conf the endpoint http://connectivity-check.ubuntu.com./ is used. I manually pinged the endpoint. I live in europe and the server is located in the US. The latency is about 160ms. Usually I have an approximate latency of 15ms. It is not a problem of my ISP, I receive this notification on different locations in Germany and Switzerland. I propose to use another endpoint or provide another server for the same endpoint for europe. So the DNS servers in europe provide the IP of a server located in europe. The config comes from the package "network-manager-config- connectivity-ubuntu" version 1.32.12-0ubuntu1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995749] Re: Maximum resolution not available after suspend / screen detach
Now I have a related problem at work, where the external monitors were not detected after plugging in the laptop in the docking station and opening the lid. Turning off and on one monitor resulted in detection (in poor resolution) but not the second external one. When both are turned off and on, the system hangs until I disconnect the USB-C cable to the docking station. A terminal window was open where lsusb was my previous command. During the unresponsive period whilst the docking station was connected, I could press , without seeing anything on the screen, but after disconnecting the docking station again the command and output where shown: $ lsusb -tv /: Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/2p, 1M ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub |__ Port 2: Dev 26, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M ID 04b4:6504 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. |__ Port 1: Dev 27, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M ID 04b4:6504 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. |__ Port 2: Dev 28, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class, Driver=r8152, 5000M ID 0bda:8153 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
