Maybe network-manager dont have enought time to reconnect before deja- dup trying to remount target samba share, just a suggestion. Most of these users believe they are running the gnome classic session and that compiz failed to start. The fact is that notify-osd is causing the gnome-classic session to fail entirely, and the gnome-fallback session is loaded instead (which of course does not load compiz). The gnome-classic session works fine after removing notify-osd from the RequiredProviders line of the file /usr/share /gnome-session/sessions/gnome-classic.session. It should be noted that notify-osd still starts after removing it from the RequiredProviders, and seems to still be working. So most likely it is just an error in communication between notify-osd and the gnome session (inverted boolean return value perhaps?). @pdf - The actual bug in my book is that Nautilus still has a separate window for file transfers. I think the file transfer should be converted to a gnome-shell notification, which obviates the need for handling its window. I don't know if the Nautilus devs intend to do that though, or how Unity would handle such a thing. Clicking on the icon will show 3 batteries "waiting to charge". However, when I click on the "waiting to charge" text the Power Statistics menu shows everything correctly. Additionally, the time remaining only shows the time remaining of the current battery, not the total of both. If I only have one battery in everything seems to detect correctly. Just wanted to note that using Gnome Classic (no unity plugin or global menubar app) and launching `gnome-terminal --window-with-profile=trans --hide-menubar` briefly shows the terminal without a menubar, then the window flashes, the prompt moves down to make room, and the menubar appears with another flash. 1) Go to The 'Now Playing' screen by clicking on the first item ('Now
Playing') in the sidebar.
2) In the toolbar, hover over the 'Simplify' button.
The tooltip (en_GB) given is:
"Simplify the Now Playing Interface by hiding the source list and more"
This tooltip is not effective as it repeats the text in the button -
not needed, and give a vague description of the changes.
It should instead be replaced by something more informative and precise, such
as:
"Hide the source list, main menu, status bar and currently playing
information."

When I upgraded Ubuntu to 11.10, Evolution converted from mailbox format to mbox (or vice versa). I recently deleted or marked as inactive the copy of my mailbox that was created in the conversion, but didn't seem to be used. I wonder if this is connected to my problem. I must admit, I didn't search the changelog, but commenting the patches themselves (as Debian do) makes this round-trip a lot more accessible and clear. @seb128 - a quick post to say this patch was related to #784804, rather than, 'shut up, stupid users' would have avoided all this additional noise (and saved you half a dozen more emails in that mailbox). In reply to comment #1: the bug is not invalid, and this is not a local issue. See bug #888355 for detailed steps to reproduce. The combination of these two preferences makes login impossible. The user administration tool should make such combinations impossible (bug #888355), but if they do occur somehow, gdm should ask for the password so that it can decrypt the home directory. At the very least, it should raise a clear error message. Steps to reproduce: 1) Go to "Users and Groups" (users-admin) 2) Click "Add" 3) Pick any name 4) Check "Encrypt home folder to protect sensitive data" 5) Click "OK" 6) Set any password 7) Check "Don't ask for password on login" 8) Click OK Expected result: An error is raised at some point, because the user will not be able to log in. Actual result: User is created normally. On login, the user is not prompted for their password, so the login fails. In Ubuntu 11.04, some cryptic error messages display and the GUI hangs; in Ubuntu 11.10, you're returned to the login screen. Since the user is not prompted for their password, the home directory cannot be decrypted, so login will fail. The two options are contradictory, and it should be impossible to select both. However, the preferences are still logically contradictory, so the administrator should not be allowed to select both when creating a user. The problem is that neither of these settings appear to work. As a result, if the screen is blanked before the screensaver starts, or if the screensaver is disabled entirely, the screen does not get locked when blanked. The manual also describes that power management timers begin only after session idle, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. power management timers now appear to start immediately, independent of session idle_delay. I am also running into this issue. I'm on 11.10 (full release, not beta) Repro steps 1. Launch nautilus 2. Key in the first few letters of a file or directory, until the file / directory is highlighted 3. Press enter 4. At this point, typing a lowercase character does not cause Nautilus to pop up the search text box. 5. If you press Escape, or type an uppcase character, the search box returns. However, the search box is not cleared. 6. At this point, the caret in the search textbox is blinking, therefore it would seem reasonable that pressing backspace would let you clear the box. Instead, Nautilus navigates backwards.t 7. The only way to clear the search box is to right click the box, and click delete. Further testing: The text will eventually condense - I tripled the name of the second (from left) icon and it did eventually condense. However, not soon enough to make anything readable with the minimum icon separation dictated by "Keep Aligned". 1) Go to The 'Now Playing' screen by clicking on the first item ('Now
Playing') in the sidebar.
2) In the toolbar, hover over the 'Simplify' button.
The tooltip (en_GB) given is:
"Simplify the Now Playing Interface by hiding the source list and more"
This tooltip is not effective as it repeats the text in the button -
not needed, and give a vague description of the changes.
It should instead be replaced by something more informative and precise, such
as:
"Hide the source list, main menu, status bar and currently playing
information."
