[Desktop-packages] [Bug 908326] Re: Pair kerning fails in Impress slide show

2012-01-01 Thread Neil Woolford
OK. Looking at existing bugs I find that upstream bug 43009 has similar
characteristics to this bug, and refers back to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/779366 which
appears very close to this bug.

I shall look at this further and make appropriate links between
(duplicate?) bugs in launchpad and check that full information has been
sent upstream.

2012-01-01 Thread Neil Woolford
Damn you automatic link highlighting!

The mention of an upstream bug with its number has created a link to an
unrelated bug in launchpad.

The second link is valid, but could be more elegantly expressed as bug
779366.

Doh!

Thank you, in the end i found out how apply the workaround:
i moved X11 first and Ubuntu second in the string using a user agent
switcher.
Was it very difficult to fix it this way upgrading from Firefox 8 to 9?

Bye.

Prerequisites: graphics tablet must be configured correctly in Gimp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 822484] Re: I cannot play videos

2012-01-01 Thread madbiologist
We are going to need a lot more information than that.

Please open a terminal and type lspci -vvnn (without the quotation
marks), and _attach_ the output to this bug report.

Please also provide the output of uname -srm

If possible, please also attach the video file or provide a link to it.

Does Totem crash before the system restarts? Is the mouse pointer still
visible and moveable between the crash and the restart?

This is more of a feature request than a bug and can be marked as a
  wishlist item.

When all the partitions on a disk device have been unmounted, the
notification area should display that the item is safe to be ejected
(for a good 10 seconds until timeout - also disappears once the device
  has been removed).

Currently Jaunty display the safe to remove device name dialog in
the middle of the screen. This is not very sleek and does not work
  consistently (on some disks only).

In the spirit of usability, there should be a discussion started
concerning how to inform the user that a drive cannot be unmounted
because a *specific* application is using it.

still printed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 910534] [NEW] In Libre oFFice Base: While making a new table-layout auto increment changes always from Yes to no while saving the new table.

2012-01-01 Thread Van Hoof
Public bug reported:

Libre Office Base

When making a new table I want to set the first field as an indexed
field where the values are automatically set by the program itself. a So
I set the first property of this field: Auto incremental to Yes. When
saving the new table structure the property auto incremental changes
automatically from Yes to No. So it is imossible to make fields
with auto incremental values.

Bug description:
  Libre Office Base

When making a new table I want to set the first field as an indexed
field where the values are automatically set by the program itself. a
So I set the first property of this field: Auto incremental to Yes.
When saving the new table structure the property auto incremental
changes automatically from Yes to No. So it is imossible to make
  fields with auto incremental values.

asking for WIFI passphrase during network is still working

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The network-manager-applt pop-up and asking for phasphrase while
  network is still working.

It might be that there was a very short disconnect, because of ath9k
kernel driver problems, but I did not recognize it.

When it is like this, it is not a bug of nm-applet, instead it would
be another ath9k bug , with short disconnects and self connecting.

On Laptops with Touchpads, the touchpad often accidentally generates events
when

keypress solves this problem.

This can be extremely easily implemented by calling syndaemon upon
login and adding SHMConfig on to the X11 configuration. I think this
is something that should be done by the installer in the default
  configuration as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 910559] [NEW] socks_remote_dns should be true by default

2012-01-01 Thread Kasper Dupont
Public bug reported:

socks_remote_dns is set to false by default, but in many cases this
setting is required to be set to true for proper operation. I am not
aware of any situation in which the default setting of false works
better than setting it to true.

If the socks client and the socks server receives different DNS
responses, it means they are somehow tailored towards who will be
receiving them. Since it is ultimately the socks server, that connects
to the IP address returned by DNS, using the DNS response tailored
towards the server is better than using those tailored towards the
client.

Cases where the default setting of false breaks includes:
- Client has IPv4 and IPv6 support, server has only IPv4 support.
- The http server is within some enterprise and only accessible from inside. A
socks proxy (for example through ssh) is used to achieve connectivity for a
client on the move.
- A socks proxy is used for additional privacy.

Title:
socks_remote_dns should be true by default

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
socks_remote_dns is set to false by default, but in many cases this
setting is required to be set to true for proper operation. I am not
aware of any situation in which the default setting of false works
better than setting it to true.

A socks proxy (for example through ssh) is used to achieve connectivity for a
client on the move.
  - A socks proxy is used for additional privacy.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 910521] Re: Firefox crashes, will not run Ubuntu 10.04.3

2012-01-01 Thread candtalan
@chris
Thanks however, at the time of the, problem since firefox would not even start
up, I could not see a way of using the normal methods of reporting. No process
id for example. and such as
ubuntu-bug firefox
simply crashed out immediately still again offering only the firefox crash
report.
If I have missed a method here, then I am sorry - I could not see it in the
wiki.

Maybe the wiki could be updated in some way to point me more obviously
to a method which can report a crashing app such as this please?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 910564] [NEW] Can't Upgrade on software center

2012-01-01 Thread 陳貴鑫
Public bug reported:

i download a .deb package on debian website, because of a bug on ibus-
chewing.

On my 32-bit laptop, click the ibus-chewing .deb package and open with
software center.

wait it 30 sec, the Install button will become Upgrade button, and
it says Upgrade is available.

And I upgrade it successfully.

However, I download its amd64 .deb package on my desktop.

the same step,

click it and open with software center, then there just a Install
button

and i click Install.

it didn't do anything.

so somebody suggest use dpkg -i the package, it's work.

they tell me don't download the package which the software center
already have, official suggest use ppa.

But i still think it's a bug.

if fix it, it will have a great user experience.

the 2 computer both use ubuntu 11.10.

the desktop use amd64 version, the laptop use 32-bit version.

and the .deb download page http://packages.debian.org/sid/ibus-chewing

it's a really big bug in ibus-chewing 1.3.9 ubuntu used( if highlight
the word you type, click anywhere, the word you typed will disappear on
Chrome Browser)

(By the way, i just can speak a little English, maybe there some

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 901388] Re: deja-dup-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in child_setup()

2012-01-01 Thread Jani Uusitalo
I suggest that the title be changed to somehow reflect that this is
(apparently indirectly) related to g_spawn_async_with_pipes() too. I was
about to report a duplicate with the title this bug initially had, and I
see others have fallen for it too (Ref: Bug #904899). As it stands, bug
reporters have to catch g_spawn_async_with_pipes() from a greyed-out
comment made by a bot. I think some confusion could be avoided if
Launchpad, when suggesting this, had g_spawn_async_with_pipes() right
in the title. How about deja-dup-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in
child_setup(), g_spawn_async_with_pipes()?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 883455] Re: Banshee crashes when Samsung YP-U3 mp3 player plugged in

2012-01-01 Thread Marc Tommasi
I've the same bug with the Mozaic Zen model.

- If I disable support for mtp devices in the plugins, banshee don't
crash and see the mtp device (because gnome as mounted it using
gphoto2).

- An interesting summary here
http://banshee-media-player.2283330.n4.nabble.com/Bonus-Banshee-Bit-for-Nov-4th-2011-So-your-MTP-device-isn-t-showing-up-in-Banshee-td3991346.html

For me mtp-detect also gives and libmtp panic.

Anyway, support of this mtp player is not optimal. Gnomad, amarok, gmtp
successfully transfert (with on the fly conversion) tunes. But the
support for cover art is missing.

Banshee was working with 11.04...

rhythmbox hangs, freezes after launch, start, it takes long till ready
  to play

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After launching rhythmbox 2.90.1 in Ubuntu 11.10 (AMD64) it would show the
rhythmbox screen, but it freezes for more than 10 minutes, so the loading till
you can play a song takes a long time. The CPU usage goes up sharply and drops
after the freeze is over.
If the database is empty the starting of Ubuntu takes only seconds, but I
have about 5000 titles in the database, so it takes more than 10 minutes. I had
no problem in Ubuntu 10.10 (i386), rhythmbox started quickly and had no
problems with the 5000 songs.

When I start rhythmbox in the terminal with rhythmbox -d, I get the output*
I have attached. I think the hanging/freezing comes from the repetitive similar
line, probably 5000 times :

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 350407]

2012-01-01 Thread Vincent-moz
Until this bug is fixed, couldn't Firefox display a warning saying that
some CSS files are missing when doing the Save Page As / Web Page,
complete? (I don't know the Firefox internals, but since the page is
already displayed, I suppose that Firefox could have this information
quite easily.)

This would avoid to make the user wonder why a saved page looks wrong
when opened, because Firefox doesn't display any error when a CSS file
is not found.

Title:
Locally saved webpages not displaying correctly

Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  WORKAROUND:
  Firefox Scrapbook Addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/427

  Firefox Information:   Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US;
  rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032711 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.8

Web pages that have been saved locally are not displaying correctly.
To see this problem run the following steps:

  1). Go to the jwebunit website ( http://jwebunit.sourceforge.net/ ).
Suggesting saving a page from this website as a test since this
provided a very good example of the problem.

2). Right click on the main web page and select Save As...

3). Save the web page somewhere on the local drive. On Ubuntu there
is an option in the save dialog specifying how to save the web page.
Make sure that Web page, complete is selected.

4). Navigate to the location where the web page was stored and attempt
to load the saved page back into firefox

At this point the web page that is loaded from the hard disk should
display very differently than the real web page. Styles and elements
of the original web page should be missing. I also tested this same
process on Windows XP SP2 (using firefox 3.0.8) and I see the exact
same behavior. This seems to eliminate the problem being caused by
local browser settings (since I see the same thing under Windows and
Linux on two separate machines with totally different preferences).
Furthermore I was able to run steps 1 - 4 using Opera 9.64 and this
produces a saved web page that displays identically to the web page
  navigated to on the internet.

...Additionally I just tried loading the webpage saved locally using
opera and this loads into firefox correctly. So the problem appears
to be with the actual web page save using firefox and not the fact
that the page is saved locally.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 241276]

2012-01-01 Thread cameleon
Created attachment 585161
exemple of odt document which doesn't work in Thunderbird 8

exemple of an image of a car in a odt document which doesn't work in
Thunderbird 8.
I also try in safe mode, the result is the same: the past command in the
Edit menu is disabled (gray). I am sure I compose mail in html. I also check
that the past command works in other application (like Gimp).

Could you do the test to with this particular file? Any other person can
give its feedback?

Yeah copying from that file doesn't work. Maybe the source have to be in
compatible format (jpg/gif/png)? Try finding a pic on the web, in
firefox go to the image and use Copy Image from the context menu, then
paste in thunderbird. That's what i tested.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 909437] Re: Changing status from hidden to away/busy after wake up or just after logging

2012-01-01 Thread linsnux
* Is this reproducible?
Should be.

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

1-Hit your Messaging Menu in Ubuntu 11.10;

2-Choose Chat to open Empathy. The current status is Offline;

3-Change your status to Hidden. Empathy starts to load your account(s)
(i have two accounts configured). Even during loading, Empathy changes
the status to Busy although anyone has asked for that;

4-Change that to Hidden again; It is changed back to hidden;

5-Now, suspend you laptop|computer using top-right-most menu or closing
your laptop's lid;

6-Wait it to be really suspended;

7-Now, wake-up your laptop. The internet connection will be activated
again. Just after that, Empathy starts to load again. But, it is loaded
in BUSY state, not hidden as it was left.

It is very annoying.

Hope you can do a good work to fix that.
Thank you.

This is what I did:

1. call banshee --debug banshee.debug from a terminal
2. wait until banshee is up
3. put audio CD into drive
4. observe that a CD symbol appears in unity dash (i.e., my CD drive works
correctly)

6. close down banshee

Clicking on mounted volume launches two Nautilus windows

Status in Unity:

Bug description:

  What was expected:
Plug in an external disk (USB hard drive or SD card) and let Ubuntu
automatically mount it. Click on the Unity launcher icon for the volume.
Nautilus windows open, allowing user to browse the volume.

  What actually happens:
Clicking on the Unity icon launches two Nautilus windows instead of one.
Both point to the correct volume.

  To reproduce:
Plug in an external drive, wait for it to automatically mount, then click the
icon in the Unity launcher.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 910643] Re: LibreOffice crashes when opening odt file

2012-01-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
LPR, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your
crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.
One may execute at the Terminal:
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Title:
  Can't Upgrade on software center

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
i download a .deb package on debian website, because of a bug on ibus-
  chewing.

On my 32-bit laptop, click the ibus-chewing .deb package and open with
  software center.

wait it 30 sec, the Install button will become Upgrade button,
and it says Upgrade is available.

  But i still think it's a bug.

if fix it, it will have a great user experience.

the 2 computer both use ubuntu 11.10.

the desktop use amd64 version, the laptop use 32-bit version.

and the .deb download page http://packages.debian.org/sid/ibus-chewing

it's a really big bug in ibus-chewing 1.3.9 ubuntu used( if highlight
the word you type, click anywhere, the word you typed will disappear
  on Chrome Browser)

(By the way, i just can speak a little English, maybe there some
  sentence you will confuse )

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 909811] Re: Internet Connection speed very slow edit sysctl.conf required

2012-01-01 Thread Robert Roth
Removing system monitor as the network speed does not have anything to
do with system monitor. This way the bug will have no package as
affected, so it has a higher chance to get triaged by someone and get
assigned to the package it really affects, then if it would remain
assigned to the system monitor package.
