A further update from me-
Rebuilding libgdiplus from a straight checkout of the Ubuntu source appears to
fix this error.
It would be nice for someone else to confirm this :)
If this is so, can someone trigger a straight rebuild with a version
number bump; I wonder if something got out of sync in

Sounds works as expected in windows 7. So it should be possible to
somehow make it work as expected.
In the GUI audio settings under the output tab, in the play-sound-through
list, there is one device listed:
When the headphones are plugged it says Headphones Built-in Audio.

The screensaver should not be inhibited by cpu and high-priority
wake locks. It looks like those are used to inhibit GC or disable power
save (see Bug 872430).
I've found two screen related wake locks - DOM_Fullscreen (Bug 805017)
