I was actually still running Ubuntu 12.04. It was last July.
When I did last summer's firmware update for Linux kernel drivers I got a black
screen. It would not roll back to a previous version.

@madbiologist: thanks for looking into it. I haven't upgraded to the A12
BIOS because the list of fixes and enhancements was very small and only
mentioned it was a fix for some issues when upgrading to Windows 8.

I read that from 1.10 to 1.14 things changed and that i need to use logind. So
I removed files that were working with lightdm 1.10 and tried to set it up the
logind way.
I removed my xorg.conf and got a bare lightdm.conf (see below)
Am I overlooking something obvious that

I select 'add a new key or item' PGP Key and I am presented with a
