Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1530142] Re: [Inspiron 5559, Realtek ALC255, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2016-02-09 Thread John Moulding
Hi Raymond,

you'll have to forgive my ignorance (I'm a Linux newbie), but does that
mean that I actually have to raise the ticket myself?

I've no problem with that, but I don't want to dive in and make a twerp of
myself.

Best regards,

John Moulding

Crash due to fd leak when playing sounds in pidgin

Status in pidgin package in Ubuntu:

regarding pidgin. This problem was most recently seen with version

  at /build/pidgin-hiYwOJ/pidgin-2.10.11/./pidgin/gtksound.c:616

  [Impact]

  * Each sound played will leak a file descriptor.

  * Crash (null pointer dereference) after playing sounds roughly 1000
  times (depending on fd limit)

  * Depending on the amount of activity, this can mean every few hours
for some users (it's once for each received or sent message)

  [Test Case]

  1. Set the file descriptor limit low enough to be able to login, plus a few
extra. "ulimit -Sn 20" works for me
  2. Start pidgin
  3. Tools menu -> preferences -> sounds tab
  4. Click "preview" 10 times or so
  5. Acquire crash

  [Regression Potential]

  * The fix consists in adding two lines, returning FALSE when a sound
finishes playing or when an error happens, which tells gstreamer to
free those file descriptors, so it's highly unlikely that this could
  make things worse.

  * A user who reported this bug yesterday was given a .deb file with
the fix, who also distributed that fixed .deb to other 50 users who
also had the issue in ubuntu wily. Everyone is happy now.

  [Other Info]

  * This fix will be included in pidgin 2.10.12, set to release very
  soon.

  * The bug originally happened because of the backported gstreamer 1.0
patch that was also introduced in post-2.10.11 development versions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1543745] [NEW] Xorg crash prevents login

2016-02-09 Thread Fabio
Public bug reported:

After a recent update, it's no more possible to log in to Ubuntu 16.04
trough lightdm with Unity.

I'm attaching .xsession-errors hoping it can be useful.

I'm reporting this from another partition with Trusty, because I did'n
know how to report without any GUI. I'm willing to add details if anyone
helps me on how to send them from the CLI.

  Hi,

My unity session crash randomly, when I am working on my computer, or
when nothing is done in my computer.

This occurs repeatedly since I have installed ubuntu 15.10.

  SRU Request:

  [IMPACT]
A bug in the version of xorg-server in precise prevents users from scaling
screen resolution. When attempting to do so, as was possible in Natty and
earlier, and which is possible in Quantal+, the mouse pointer remains locked
inside the old resolution. This prevents users of small screens such as
netbooks from scaling to a greater screen resolution.

  [Test Case]
  - On a netbook with intel chipset, such as a Dell Mini 9 or 10, scale the
display by using the following command:

  xrandr --output LVDS1 --panning 1280x750 --scale 1.25x1.25

See if the mouse moves correctly to all screen extremities, and is not
confined by a transparent border at 1024x600

  [Regression Potential]
This is fixed with a patch backported from the xorg-server version in
Quantal. In theory it should just affect screen which are scaled and panned,
which is uncommon. If so, the patch can be backed out.

  Original Bug Description:
in kubuntu (and ubuntu) 11.04 i used to enlarge my laptop screen like so

  xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2

this worked fine: the desktop scaled to larger size correctly .
After upgrading to 11.10, in kde the desktop still resizes
correctly, but the movement of the mouse is restricted to an area equal to
the screen size *before* issuing the scaling command. .. Ie let's say
the mode is 1366x768 and I do xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2 the
screen size changes to 1640x922 but the mouse moves in an area the size of
1366x768 in the top left of the screen and then 'hits a wall' preventing
it to move. I also tried ubuntu 11.10 with gnome: here the screen also
resizes, but I have the same issue with the mouse, and the extended area
  of the desktop is black...

Some time ago there was a similar issue, which was resolved later. Now it
seems
  to be back...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1273201] Re: bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch breaks NM created bridge at boot

2016-02-09 Thread Alexander A. Kompaniets
Hi, Cedric!
The latest version' changelog (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3 from Canonical repos) doesn't
contains any relevant bugfixes,
so I think the bug is still there.

Could you please update your PPA? Thanks in advance!

Title:
bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch breaks NM created bridge at
  boot

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I've created a bridge with network-manager-gnome, the bridge slave
physical device is eth0. After a reboot the bridge is brought up, but
  eth0 isn't attached.

  First test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0 and remove all other connections. After a reboot the bridge is
brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. When I open
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and save it without any modification,
eth0 is instantly added to my bridge. Strange!

  Second test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0. Disable the "autoconnect" of the default wired network. After a
reboot the bridge is brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. Instead eth0 is
brought up and full configured.

After compiling and testing different upstream versions, i could track
the problem down to bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch. A
network-manager package without this specific patch, brings my bridge
up at boot and adds eth0 to the bridge in both test-cases.

I've checked the behaviour on my ubuntu 13.10 box with network-manager
(0.9.8.0-0ubuntu22) and the trusty version network-manager
  (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu1) .

Till now i couldn't encounter any sideeffects of removing this patch
with the bridge created by libvirt.

  Regards
  Mathias Kresin

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1311257] Re: Wifi cannot connect or unstable after suspend 14.04

2016-02-09 Thread Zisu Andrei
Hello everyone.

I had a similar issue on elementary OS freya when coming out of suspend
with Intel Wireless-N 7260.

I could patch it with "nmcli nm sleep false" , however, it seems like
uninstalling laptop-mode-tools fixed it definitively.

Also, this fixed another issue: after I issues a suspend command, it
took 10-20 seconds until the laptop actually turned off. Now it turns
off instantly.

Title:
Wifi cannot connect or unstable after suspend 14.04

Status in gnome-nettool package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've tried every solution, such as
  1. editing /etc/pm/config.d to add
   SUSPEND_MODULES="iwlwifi"
  2. editing /etc/modprobe/d/wilwifi.conf to add:
  options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0
  options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
  3. running: sudo rmmod iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlwifi
  4. stopping, starting, or restarting Network Manager

Nothing seems to work. When I had 13.10, my wifi worked without a
problem, but once I erased it and installed 14.04, wifi will not
connect after suspend. Ethernet works fine. The only way I've found
to resolve this is to restart my computer. I have a Lenovo T420. If
I try to connect after suspend, it shows the Wifi Networks, tries to
connect, and says "Disconnected..." every time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1543617] [NEW] InputSources should have an explicit default

2016-02-09 Thread Jonas G. Drange
Public bug reported:

The AccountsService package rolls the org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.xml
schema, which comes with a default, empty InputSources. Mir defaults to
“en”.

Maybe we should set this value to “en” so that there's a canonical way
of figuring out what InputSource to use. Additionally, if a vendor wants
“no” to be the default, it could make sense to just override this schema
default value.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1543546] [NEW] Monitor DPI settings are ignored after upgrade to Xenial

2016-02-09 Thread Michael Marley
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded my Kubuntu x86_64 system with a HiDPI monitor (24"
4K) from Wily to Xenial. Before I did this, applications using all the
toolkits (GTK2, GTK3, Qt4, and Qt5) properly obeyed the DPI value
automatically detected from the monitor, causing them to automatically
scale to a usable size. However, after upgrading to Xenial, GTK3
applications no longer have this behavior. Instead, they appear at the
normal 96DPI size, causing them to be nearly unreadable due to the small
size of their widgets.

I am currently using GTK3 3.18.7-1ubuntu2, but the issue has been
occurring since I upgraded to Xenial months ago.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1507764] Re: metacity crashed with signal 5 in _XEventsQueued() ; forcing gnome session to logout

Same issue here. I've been also able to trigger it while doing alt+tab.
I also lose my entire session when this happens. It doesn't happen
always but after some hours of work. I don't detect anything special
when system crashes... sorry =(

metacity crashed with signal 5 in _XEventsQueued() ; forcing gnome
  session to logout

Status in metacity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This bug seemed to occur already since earlier versions of Ubuntu, and
usually would just end up leaving me with undecorated windows, from
which recovery was as easy as restarting metacity by hand, but in this
release of Ubuntu (15.04), it seems gnome-session tries to restart it
too many times in a too short span, and then decides arbitrarily that
it failed so bad it has to kill the whole session.

So, while the metacity bug is really a thing, my real problem actually might
be a gnome-session-bin bug.
I expect metacity crashing would not bring down the whole session, as is the
case currently.

At any rate, this is extremely annoying, I am hitting this bug about
every two days, and because of it and the regression in crash
handling, I end up losing all my windows and running programs. (In all
fairness, I am suspecting a hardware issue, but the problem remains
that a sub process dying should not cause the parent process to die
  like this)

Impossible to save settings for Tunneled TLS connection

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I was attempting to connect to a Wifi router (WPA & WPA2 Enterprise,
Tunneled TLS) using network-manager 0.9.10.0-4ubuntu15.1 in Ubuntu
15.04. I entered my username and password, however, the save button is
  gray and will not respond.

The only way I can save the settings is if I use an authentication
method which is neither Tunneled TLS nor PEAP. Every other
authentication methods lets me save the settings, but is the wrong
  setting for the router.

I tried connecting on Ubuntu 14.04, which worked flawlessly. I
attempted to copy the profile in /etc/NetworkManager/system-
connections/ over to my Ubuntu install in 15.04, however, this did not
solve the problem. This leads me to believe that it is a new problem
in 15.10 and might have something to do with being unable to save the
username and password to the keyring.

Bug description:
Chromium is unable to use the widevine component from google chrome :
  libwidevinecdmadapter.so and libwidevinecdm.so

  How to reproduce :

  - copy the 2 files the chrome archive in /usr/lib/chromium-browser
  - check chrome://components/
  - Widevine does not appear

  Solution :

With the help from several people (hogliux for patch and saiarcot895
for PPA) , a PPA is available with this feature :

  - You need the binary widevine plugin plugin (2 files) :

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-

browser/+bug/1371274/+attachment/4397708/+files/WidevineLinuxForChromium44.tar.gz

  To be copied in /usr/lib/chromium

  - Launch netflix.com and see if it works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1511301] Re: Failed to upgrade fglrx from 14.502 to 15.200 on Trusty.

2016-02-09 Thread Alberto Milone
Verification didn't fail in LP: #1539865

It seems to me that the error came from 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.5 but was
reported as coming from 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.6, since it was (probably) all
part of the same upgrade:

2016-01-30 18:25:56 configure fglrx-updates:amd64 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.5
2016-01-30 18:25:56 status half-configured fglrx-updates:amd64
2:15.200-0ubuntu0.5
...
2016-01-30 18:35:24 upgrade fglrx-updates-core:amd64 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.5
2:15.200-0ubuntu0.6

Now, if we finally approved the update, we would stop having all these
duplicates and false positives.

Upgrading from the upstream fglrx driver packages to the packages in
the Ubuntu repository fails because the /etc/ati directory is a real
directory instead of being a link (which was common in the Ubuntu
  packages).

  [Test Case]
  1. Install the fglrx driver (14.502) in Ubuntu 14.04 generating deb packages
from the AMD installer
  2. Upgrade the package to the current ubuntu release.
  3. Check the apt-get output

Expected results: the fglrx module should be updated correctly.

  Actual results:
The update fails as described below.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. The change only affects a migration from a specific release.

Note that the fglrx 14.502 package name is
fglrx_14.502-0ubuntu1_amd64_UB_14.01.deb, which is from AMD's site, not from

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves

This particular bug was indeed fixed in Ubuntu 12.04:

xorg-server (2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.12) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/238-xrandr-fix-panning.patch: disable CRTC cursor

 -- Marc Deslauriers Tue, 12 Feb 2013

If you are seeing similar symptoms in a more recent release, it's likely to be
a different bug altogether.
Please file a new bug so the issue actually gets fixed instead of commenting in
a bug that has been long closed and doesn't show up on any bug lists anymore.

in kubuntu (and ubuntu) 11.04 i used to enlarge my laptop screen like so

  xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2

this worked fine: the desktop scaled to larger size correctly .

Title:
Complete system freeze some time after screensaver starts.

Status in gnome-screensaver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Ever since updating to 15.10 my computer has been freezing every day.
Usually this happens after I've left work, and since I leave my
computer on, I manually start the screensaver (ctrl+alt+L), and when I
come back the next morning, the computer is completely unresponsive,
even to sysrq. Gnome screensaver itself doesn't appear to be the
culprit since I can turn it on, then log back into my system any time
within perhaps 5 minutes. Looking at my root journalctrl output,
yesterday, it appears to have crashed 30 minutes after I logged out (I
was zeroing a drive with dd, and was issuing a kill -USR1 to track the
  progress every 30 seconds).

At first I thought it might be a botched upgrade from 15.04, so I
tried a clean reinstall last week, but it still freezes. There is also
nothing in the logs that would indicate an error/crash.

The only potentially related piece of information is that I use gnome-
  shell, installed via ubuntu-gnome-desktop.

I'm not sure what package to file this under since I don't know how to
reproduce, or how to diagnose the issue. Any debugging advice will be
appreciated since this issue is really starting to annoy me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 971209] Re: gvfsd-network SIGSEGV in g_vfs_monitor_emit_event()

2016-02-09 Thread Andrew
I have this error with the condition:

UnreportableReason:
You have some obsolete package versions installed. Please upgrade the
following packages and check if the problem still occurs:

 libgd3, libimobiledevice6, liblocale-gettext-perl, libtext-charwidth-perl,
libtext-iconv-perl, perl-base

I have run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade before this
occurred and then rebooted.

I think plugging in an Android device around this time, that may have
triggered the crash. The only other application in use at the time was
Mozilla Firefox. I will attach syslog snippet and crash log.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1325931]

Is this related to "Use only paper size from printer preferences"
checkbox on the File > Print .. Options tab. ??

See bug 61186
and https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.1#Other

(Then we could close as duplicate of bug 67576
and note that bug 94343 is about improving the position)

Title:
Can't select non-standard paper sizes for Printing

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem description:
I was trying to print a small compliments slip on a card that was 140mm x
100mm.

I set the page size under Format -> Page -> Size to user defined, and
then entered the width of 14.00cm and height of 10.00cm correctly.

However, when I came to try to print it, it would not print correctly.
The print dialog box showed the dimensions of A6 (140mm x 105mm) and I
couldn't find any way to change this. I tried to print it anyway, but
  it came out wrong.

To prove that the problem is in LibreOffice and probably not related
to the driver, I exported the file to a PDF, and was able to print it
by setting up a Custom Paper size in the printer settings dialog - an
option which LibreOffice doesn't seem to have.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a new Document
  2. From the menu, do Format -> Page
  3. From the Format dropdown, select User
  4. Enter a size that is not a standard paper size
  5. Click OK
  6. Attempt to print the document

  Current behavior:
No matter what combinations of options I tried, I was unable to change the
Printer paper size to the correct size.
If I go ahead and click Print, the output is wrong (output not aligned
correctly on the page).

  Expected behavior:
Paper size could be set by the selected Page size, or provide some way to
change the printer paper size.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1382462] Re: 10de:0dfa Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration

Title:
10de:0dfa Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor
  configuration

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
My setup: Dell M4600 laptop with Dell U3011 2560x1600 monitor attached
  to DisplayPort.

I was using Nvidia 331.38 prioprietary driver for quite a long time
with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and everything worked perfectly. Today I
upgraded to Ubuntu 14.10, which comes with Nvidia 331.89 and observed
  the following problem:

  1. When I boot up the computer with the monitor connected, the login
screen looks fine. Both displays get detected properly and resolutions
are ok (1920x1080 on the builtin laptop display and 2560x1600 on
U3011) and screen contents scaled properly.

  2. Then I log into my account, for 3 seconds U3011 displays some
rubbish (but it was always like that) and when it finally logs in, it
displays everything stretched horizontally through both my screens. It
looks as if it tried to paint the contents of a single display on two
of them, by stretching the content horizontally, so everything (icons,
windows, wallpaper) has wrong aspect-ratio. Funny, the top status bar
seem to render correctly and the resolution/size of the top menu is
correct. Physical resolution of both screens is ok. I'll attach a
photo, because it is hard to describe how it looks.

  3. I cannot use system in this state - mouse click position seems to
not be synchronized with what's on the display - e.g. I can start
applications, but then they don't react to mouseclicks.

However: booting up without the second display connected, logging in
and *then* connecting the second display works fine.

If I boot up with connected monitor and log in (desktop distorted),
disconnecting and connecting monitor does *not* help. After disconnecting the
U3011, the builtin display is painted ok, but after connecting, it returns back
to the incorrect state and both are rendered incorrectly.
The only thing that helps recovering from this state seems to be
disconnecting the second monitor, reboot, logging in and then connecting.

Suspending to memory and waking up does not change the layout of the
screen (neither fixes the "broken" one nor destroys the "good" one).

Using a Guest session instead of my account does not fix my problem (I
was hoping this was something screwed up in my .config).

Switching to a Guest user account while I'm using both monitors in the
good layout creates a session with a broken layout. Then logging out
from Guest and switching back to my original session restores the good
layout. The good layout seems to not be forgotten until I finish the
session and logout. The bad layout is "created" whenever I start a new
session with both monitors plugged in.

BTW: I'm using a docking station - not sure if it is related - if you
think it might be, I can try with connecting the monitor directly.

I tried deleting ~/.compiz and ~/.config/compiz-1 directories but the problem
remains.
I also tried to go into the Displays configuration when everything is ok,
apply the settings there (without any changes) in hope it will persist them
somehow, but after restart it is broken again.

I also tried reinstalling nvidia 331.89 drivers, because it complained
about not being able to install nvidia-uvm during the upgrade process
(reported separately), and now all nvidia packages installed cleanly.
Before that I also got rid of all the ppa mainline kernels I had, just
in case they mess something up.

I remember the same problem happened on Ubuntu 14.04 when I tried to
upgrade nvidia from ppa/xorg-edgers to 331.89, but then the easy
workaround was to downgrade back to official 331.38. Now I have no
  choice :(

Some other observations that may or may not be related to the problem,
but I disclose them anyway, maybe they are helpful:

  * Notifications (e.g. network connection) displayed on the login
screen in dual screen mode seem to be misplaced and instead of being
painted in the upper right corner of one of the displays they get
painted in some hard to logically explain position - neither at the
  center, nor in any corner.

  * The splash screen of IntelliJ IDEA (this is using Java / AWT
probably) is also rendered in a strange position - below the center of
the laptop screen, moved to the right (but not touching the edge),
instead of exact center as it should be.

  * GMail notification just displayed at the moment when I'm writing it
exactly at the left-lower corner of the bigger screen (U3011).

  * Nvidia settings lists only U3011 in the list of the devices
  (attached screenshot).

  * Ubuntu Display configuration dialog detects both displays correctly
  and their positions

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1539634] Re: network-manager crashes when using libnl-3-200-3.21.1-1ubuntu1

2016-02-09 Thread Samuel
After 40 hours of trying, I bought a DVD reader and reinstalled Ubuntu.
I encourage to implement: when we accept proposed updates, a warning appears
explaining the risks.
Reason: many of us can not understand what is suggested here or elsewhere in
Internet related with Terminal -no further than copy even if we have an
extra computer to read online the suggestions -Network Manager was broken- and
try to solve this problem for days, we still can not repair this bugs.
PS: move/copy this suggestion if you think of a better place for implementation.

Title:
  network-manager crashes when using libnl-3-200-3.21.1-1ubuntu1

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Trusty:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Triage Notes]

This regression is caused by a libnl proposed update tracked in bug
1511735. It has not been released as an update, only proposed as an
update for early testing. If you volunteered to test proposed updates,
then thank you. Your care and attention will stop this regression from
hitting ordinary users, and we appreciate your contribution to Ubuntu.

If you are not aware that you volunteered to test proposed updates,
then please be aware that your system is configured to do so. In this
case, you probably should turn this off. I'd appreciate if someone
could explain how to do this in the comments.

  [Impact]

   * NetworkManager depends on libnl (libnl-3-200 libnl-genl-3-200
libnl-route-3-200) and when libnl is updated to proposed
3.2.21-1ubuntu1 NM segfaults due to libnl exposing a bug in NM
     validation packets.

This affects the 0.98 release of NetworkManager and has already
     been fixed in newer releases.

   * Backporting fixes from upstream release is required to prevent
NetworkManager from faulting which breaks networking on most
     Desktop releases.

   * All patches applied are already accepted upstream and newer Ubuntu
     releases are not affected.

   * Upgrading NetworkManager to 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3 prior to updating
libnl-3.2.21-1ubuntu1 is required to prevent NetworkManager crashing.

  [Test Case]

   * Reproduce crash test:
  1. Download 14.04.03 Desktop iso, amd64
  2. Launched in a VM, run from iso
  3. In terminal, enable proposed
  4. sudo apt-get install libnl-3-200 libnl-genl-3-200 libnl-route-3-200
  5. sudo restart network-manager
  # note the nm-applet disappears as NM has now crashed, no network
     conn.
  6. dmesg to confirm network-manager crash
  7. sudo dpkg --install
gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib4_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib-vpn1_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-util2_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
network-manager_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
  8. sudo start network-manager
  # nm-applet reappears, network connectivity restored

   * Successful upgrade test:
     1. Download 14.04.03 Desktop iso, amd64
     2. Launched in a VM, run from iso
     3. In a terminal, sudo dpkg --install
gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib4_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-glib-vpn1_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
libnm-util2_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
network-manager_0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7.3_amd64.deb
     4. sudo restart network-manager # NM still runs, no crash, net up
     5. enable trusty-proposed in /etc/apt/sources.list
     6. sudo apt-get update
     7. sudo apt-get install libnl-3-200 libnl-genl-3-200 libnl-route-3-200
     8. sudo restart network-manager # NM still runs, no crash, net up.

  [Regression Potential]

   * NetworkManager is a highly visible package, so testing NetworkManager
functionality is critical. The patch does address the crash specificly
introduced by the updated libnl SRU.

   * We need to ensure that users have installed this NetworkManager
update before installing libnl3 update (special phasing needed).

  [Original Description]
Testing out proposed libnl-3 package[1] exposed a bug in NM 0.98.

After installing updated libnl3 and restarting networkmanager, NM
  crashes with:

  /var/log/syslog shows:
init: network-manager main process (1057) killed by SEGV signal
init: network-manager main process ended, respawning
init: network-manager main process (1065) killed by SEGV signal
init: network-manager respawning too fast, stopped

The bug has been fixed in upstream 0.98 with these patches:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=8e4576b9fdb5c888d20a13aa2cc198df790dba54

2016-02-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
sjp333, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5428369=8=4192
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(1.34). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

- I have a intel laptop with a nvidia k2100m quadro GPU. Intel HD graphics
controls the internal display and the nvidia card handles the display port out.
When trying to utilize a dual monitor setup the output of the desktop looks
like its been stretched across both displays. It appears like the resolution is
very low and the mouse pointer is incorrectly calibrated with its location on
the screen. The dual monitor setup is completely useless with this bug. I
believe this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1382462 is the
same issue filed way back in 2014. However, it was never resolved. This is a

Bug description:
  I am on Ubuntu12.04 64bit updated to 2.3.2012.

The Software center crashed on the search term"python".

  [TEST CASE]
This crash occurs only intermittently under certain conditions when an image
download fails. As such, this error can't be reliably reproduced. However, to
test, you can fully exercise this code by clearing the downloaded icon cache
and then reloading them per the following steps:
  1. Install the version of software-center in precise-proposed.
  2. With Software Center not running, execute the following in a terminal:

  $ cd ~/.cache/software-center/icons
  $ rm *

  3. Launch Software Center and navigate to "All Software" -> "For Purchase"
  4. Verify that as you scroll the list the application icons are loaded in the
view.

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
Very low. If a regression were to occur, it would manifest as "generic" icons
appearing in the list views or the details view.

Title:
10de:0dfa Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor
  configuration

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

My Deskjet 1000 series printer doesn't print now. It used to, but HPLIP

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves

2016-02-09 Thread jd
No it wasn't. I saw this issue in 13.10, 14.04, 14.10, 15.04, and now
15.10. So if it was fixed in 12.04, then it was only fixed in that version.
Funny that I have a new bug altogether and yet the symptoms are identical
in every way. More liked Occam's Razor states that either the issue was
never fixed, or more complex description of it being fixed, then a magical
being appeared from the sky and made a completely different issue that is
identical in every way, but is apparently not the same thing.

You tell me if that sounds like a completely different bug or if it's a
lazy person who didn't fix it at all or correctly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1543458] Re: Xorg crash prevents login

2016-02-09 Thread Fabio
The "Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0"" message suggests
it's indeed a problem with the GPU. I found that it could be caused by
bugs with nvidia drivers. This could be the case, as mine it's an
optimus laptop with NVIDIA GTX 850m.
