It seems like pulseaudio is picking the wrong audio sink as a default in
different scenarios.
On my computer I have the default onboard Intel HDA audio as well as a
USB headset. On the network, there is one pulse instance advertising
itself.

I just found out yesterday that, if you enable auto-login, gdm never
hangs like this anymore.
This is kinda bad for security and debugging/testing but hopefully it
can still be of use to someone until this bug gets fixed.
Also this is not related to bad gnome extensions as, on my machine, gdm
I am seeing the exact same problem on a Samsung NP900X3G after the most
recent kernel update for Ubuntu 16.04. It works fine on 4.13.0-41 but
with 4.13.0-43 I am seeing the same horizontal lines as Thomas. Maybe
this helps to find where the problem got introduced.

No volume notification shows up in kde but audio playback still skips about

I restarted my computer 3 time.I launched FF and the top command. The home page
of FF is https://www.bing.com/?cc=be. I opened a second tab with
maps.google.com. Everything was find. I lauched system monitor and then, the
CPU of one core jumped to 100 %, even after closing the maps.google.com
