Wayland is not fully functional or compatible with Ubuntu 18.10 yet.
So why use wayland in a full new distribution, and cause problems?
It wasted 8 hours of my time to find the solution.
Just because of 1 line in a gdm3 conf file.
1 wrong line in a config line, and Ubuntu fails.

I installed from scratch lubuntu 18.04.1 on my 32-bit netbook
(previously running lubuntu 16.04). The installation went well and I was
able to reboot the machines and installed other (non-tex-related)
softwares. But when I tried to install texlive-latex I got massive
errors.
Ran into the same, or similar, issue. It turned out the problem was
caused by insufficient permissions. Found a solution here

implicitly in play. I see xclock(1) now describes hourColor, etc., and

I long have given up on this.
However here are two more observations.
Confirming Simon P.'s (simpre) observation that applications are not
docked.
Another issue: when clicking on the activities button once, it does not
show the app overview. It requires a second click.
This is also true with
Also affects LibreOffice 6.0.7.3 on 18.04. In the occurrence I saw, the
user had used and closed Calc but had left one Writer document open.
All documents visited were made by the user and had no macros, but in
case it's relevant I should perhaps mention we have Java disabled as a
