Gnome-calculator (GPL-3.0+) and kbrunch (GPL-2.0+) from the snap Store
show their license as 'Free'. The bug mentioned in #1 is marked as fix
released.

I'm going to be bold and go ahead and mark this bug as fix released.

  [ Description ]

GNOME Shell crashes during tear-down when some window is anymating
  under X11.

  [ Test case ]

This test doesn't work 100% of the cases, so for proper checks we can
  still monitor the e.u.c reports.

Run this script in a terminal (needs apt install wmctrl):

active=$(wmctrl -l | head -n1 | cut -f1 -d' '); \
  while true; \
  do wmctrl -ir $active -b remove,maximized_vert,maximized_horz && \
  sleep 0.4 && wmctrl -ir $active -b add,maximized_vert,maximized_horz; \
  sleep 0.4; done

While the app is maximizing/unmaximixing, do:
- Alt+f2 -> write: "debugexit" and press enter.

GNOME Shell should exit without crashing.

  [ Regression potential ]

Windows animation doesn't work properly when a window is destroyed.

On the upside, Ubuntu 19.04 now handles my unusual desktop geometry,
and displays desktop icons within physical monitor dimensions (I have
  one landscape, one portrait display).

The downside is there's no sort option for desktop icons anymore.

Icons are snapped to grid automatically, but all arrangement for now
  is manual.

The restoration of "Sort by name" functionality at the very least, and
perhaps the addition of "Sort by type" would be even better.

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When I select "show hidden files" in the Nautilus GUI menu almost all
of my Ubuntu desktop icons disappear. My home folder icon and my trash
  can icon (and - oddly - a single .mp3 and a single .zip file - ??)
  stay visible on the desktop.

After unchecking the "show hidden files" checkbox, all icons reappear
  again.

One additional information concerning the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl +
H": "Ctrl + H" to show hidden files seems to have been disabled in
  Ubuntu 19.04 / Nautilus 3.32.0-stable. When I press "ctrl + H" now,
all desktop icons disappear for a moment, then reappear without a
change. This does not switch the nautilus "show hidden files" state.

It seems to be a bug in nautilus. Kind regards, Michael

Title:
Extension causes saving files to desktop to be slow

Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons:
  New
Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  To reproduce:
  1. Create a text file (foo.txt) on the desktop and open in gedit.
  2. Type a few lines in the file and save it.

Expected: the file saves more or less instantly.

  Observed:
  - The file takes several seconds to save.
  - The following lines appear in the journal:

  Apr 26 22:20:40 khaeru-laptop gnome-shell[3205]: JS ERROR: TypeError:

_monitorDesktopFolder/<@/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/desktop-icons@csoriano/desktopManager.js:299:89

  Notes:
  - Repeating #1 and #2 with a file that is in another folder (i.e., not on the
desktop), the file saves instantly, and the log messages do not appear.
  - This might be a duplicate/alternate description of lp#1816205.

correct the aspect ratio from the GUI menu. New video thumbnails are

and I try to list directories with many files (e.g. /DCIM/Camera) the
window hangs until I disconnect the device. Same issue if I try to
  post the command "ls /var/run/1000/gvfs/".

I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on two different machines - an older HP
laptop and a recent DELL laptop - and the issue is present on the all

I suspect a defect on the "libmtp". I tried many alternative solutions

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1840597] [NEW] Web Extension API, `browser.search.get` throws error `An unexpected error occurred`

2019-08-18 Thread Anoop Elias
Public bug reported:

Web Extension API, `browser.search.get` throws error `An unexpected error
occurred` on ubuntu's version of firefox 68

Steps to reproduce

1. Extract attached ff-extensions.zip
2. In the extracted folder, run `web-ext run`
3. In address bar type about:debugging. Temporary extensions 'Test Extension'
will be loaded.
4. Click 'Debug'

It gives an error in console tab, Error: "An unexpected error occurred"

This issue is reproducible only with the Firefox installations from
'Ubuntu Software', not with the Firefox downloads from Mozilla's page.

occurred` on ubuntu's version of firefox 68

  Steps to reproduce

  2. In the extracted folder, run `web-ext run`

will be loaded.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1799262] Re: OpenVPN doesn't respect dns servers in settings

2019-08-18 Thread Abel Boldú
This is affecting users of dappnode.io platform when connecting from Ubuntu.
The DNS server pushed by OpenVPN server is not being added to clients.
A temporary fix can be applied, see
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1032476/ubuntu-18-04-no-dns-resolution-when-connected-to-openvpn,
but it's not very convenient for users.

Can this settings be pushed to systemd-resolved ?

window hangs until I disconnect the device.

I have this exact problem with Calibre and Kindle PaperWhite (10th Gen).
I checked every part over here

OS problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1768976] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 is overheating after upgrade from 16.04

2019-08-18 Thread xtro
Have the same overheating problem on all my Lenovo laptops.

T520i (Intel graphics), Kernel: 4.6.0-040600
W510 (Intel/Nvidia), Kernel: 5.0.0-25
T530 (Intel/Nvidia), Kernel: 4.4.0-157

intel_pstate is not solving the problem. But I noticed it only overheats
when watching videos in fullscreen mode.

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_driver
gives -> acpi-cpufreq

Bug description:
Ubuntu is overheating at my laptop. Opening youtube on firefox is
  enough for critical temperature shutdown.

Using lm-sensors for monitoring on 18.04 the temp varies between 70 and 85°C
with only firefox or chrome open and doing nothing.
On my old 16.04 with same using, the temp varies between 55 and 70°C.

First thought was the driver nouveau is the problem, and finally I was
able to install by add "nouveau.modeset=0" at livecd boot options,
  without temp shutdown.

After install I disable the nouveau at modprobe blacklist, but the
system continues overheating and shutdown with basic usage.

I have no idea what's happening with the bionic at my laptop.

  My laptop is a Samsung RF411 i5 2nd Generation and Geforce 540M.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1576559] Re: Refused to switch profile to headset_head_unit: Not connected

2019-08-18 Thread Aleksandar
The same problem here, "Headset" is not missing.
I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.

Device 5C:FB:7C:86:8A:D9 (public)
 Name: JBL TUNE110BT
 Alias: JBL TUNE110BT
 Class: 0x00240404
 Icon: audio-card
 Paired: yes
 Trusted: yes
 Blocked: no
 Connected: yes
 LegacyPairing: no
 UUID: Headset (1108--1000-8000-00805f9b34fb)
 UUID: Audio Sink (110b--1000-8000-00805f9b34fb)
UUID: A/V Remote Control Target (110c--1000-8000-00805f9b34fb)
 UUID: Advanced Audio Distribu.. (110d--1000-8000-00805f9b34fb)
 UUID: A/V Remote Control (110e--1000-8000-00805f9b34fb)
 UUID: Handsfree (111e--1000-8000-00805f9b34fb)

Using blueman, I can somehow force the headset profile. Unfortunately, I can
only hear hissing noise in this case for both input and output. I think there
is definitely something wrong in how pavucontrol handles this.
Also, my headphones were tested with an android phone and were working.

Title:
Bluetooth headset HSP/HFP mode not working in Bionic

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
There is a previous bug with almost the same title, but for Xenial
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1549163). I
have had this issue in Artful, and when commented on the old bug, I
was asked to raise a new one instead. I waited to see if Bionic fixed
it for me, but it does not seem to work still. So!

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. enable bluetooth on computer and switch on the headset.
  2. pair and connect the headset
  3. go to settings to switch headset to HSP/HFP mode to enable mic
  4. save and close window.

  Expected behaviour:
  1. mic should be enabled and headset should be usable to attend calls on
laptop.

  Behaviour in error:
  1. Headset profile switches back to A2DP and mic is not enabled.

I am using a generic bluetooth headset on a fresh updated Kubuntu
  18.04 bionic with plasma DE.

  Software versions:
  Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic
  Bluez version: 5.48-0ubuntu3
  pulseaudio: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7
  pulseaudio-module-bluetooth: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7

  Additional information:
Running "pacmd list-cards" says that HSF/HFP is 'not available' on the
headset:

  Output from Headset section:
  profiles:
a2dp_sink: High Fidelity Playback (A2DP Sink) (priority 40,
available: unknown)
  headset_head_unit: Headset Head Unit (HSP/HFP) (priority 30,
available: no)
off: Off (priority 0, available: yes)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

Same problem here.
System: Mint 18.3 with kernel 4.15.0-55-generic
(Problem seems not to be dependent on kernel version. Had this effect with
earlier kernel versions too)
Desktop: MATE with lightdm

Reproduction: Open two folders in default file manager of mate. Then
drag files from one folder to another folder in a seperate window while
pressing the shift key. After ~ 10 files copied the problem occurs.

Reproduction 2: Open a folder and drag and drop files (small .mp4 video
clips) from a folder to XPlayer (Medienwiedergabe). Problem occurs after
around 10 files or sooner. (VLC seems to run fine though).

Mouse can be moved but klicks do not work. No left, right, middle,
scrolling ... nothing. Keyboard works fine. Unplugging and plugging
mouse does not help.

How to solve the problem: Reboot. Nothing else worked for me. Monitor
has no touch screen. "Gesettings" command did not help. Killing
nautilus, file-roller, rapidsvn, nautilus-desktop, nemo is not
applicable (but still tried it) and/but did not help too.

During the copy process the default mouse icon changes from normal mouse
pointer to this hand symbol with an arrow on the bottom right side
pointing to the left top corner and the file icon symbol of the file
that was to be copied (grabbed).

Hope this gets fixed soon. The problem began 2009??? Very annoying bug
renders the system more or uselesse useless. Reboot is the only fix for
me right now. :((

the mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag n drop" mode, blocking all
keyboard entry and also mouse clicks for the the whole GUI
  (systemwide).

Unfortunately I cannot provide any debug or other information, as I
  have to reboot everytime.

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 with compiz enabled.

Many thanks in advance for your help with this problem,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when some menu is open

2019-08-18 Thread Nicholas Klopfer-Webber
I can't believe this bug is still open. The report goes back more than
10 years.

Also the duplicate (bug 4286) mentioned above is incorrect, it points an
avifile issue.

This is a incredibly high security issue that should be fixed
immediately. Not only all the examples mentioned above by meany people,
but the more concerning case is when you close the screen on a laptop.
Even with lock screen turned on (I'm using the default gnome with
Ubuntu) when you open the lid again no password is required. It makes
encrypting your disk a bit pointless.

Please look into it.

I'm running a fresh install of Dapper with screensaver set to 'blank
screen', and 'lock screen when screensaver is active' enabled.

If a panel menu (e.g. Applications) is open and the machine is left
idle, the screen fails to lock. It fades out after the time period as
expected, but the desktop reappears after a few seconds.

Ben (comments / criticism welcome, this is my first bug report)
