[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940545] Re: Update Mesa to mesa-21.1.7 on Ubuntu 20.04

2022-02-07 Thread Maniraj D
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1956915 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956915

Hi Timo,

>From https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1956915, I
understood that Mesa 21.2.6 is backported to ubuntu0.1~20.04.1 and that
is currently under 'focal-proposed', when we can expect that to be part
of 'focal-updates' ?

I tried upgrading it with "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/display
&& sudo apt upgrade" for now as mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1956915. But the
mesa package is not upgraded in my system.

Title:
Update Mesa to mesa-21.1.7 on Ubuntu 20.04

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  With the recent MR
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/9902 to
Mesa, we (NVIDIA) have added ability to GBM to dynamically load the
backends. So we request to upgrade mesa libs to its latest version
(mesa-21.1.7) on Ubuntu 20.04 to use the added feature for our
  development.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1960254] Re: [Intel Nuc] Realtek ALC700 S/PDIF audio output not found

2022-02-07 Thread Sami Siltala
** Summary changed:

- Intel Nuc Realtek SLC700 S/PDIF audio output not found
+ [Intel Nuc] Realtek ALC700 S/PDIF audio output not found

** Description changed:

I have installed Ubuntu 21.10 on my Intel NUC8I7HVK.

I can't figure out how to configure my SPDIF to connect to my speaker
system. I have the correct mini-Toslink to standard cable and I can see
the laser light coming from the PC, so it is not likely a hardware
  problem.

- The NUC audio is Realtek SLC700.
+ The NUC audio is Realtek ALC700.

Can anyone help me properly configure my audio to recognize my SPDIF
digital output and support the 5.1 Dolby surround?

  -
In pavucontrol i don't see any SPDIF output, headphones work fine.

Title:
Disconnecting monitor crashes shell (wayland, gnome)

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
This bug has been persisting since I've bought an external monitor for
my laptop and started using Wayland (first on Ubuntu 20.04) until
  today (Ubuntu 21.10).

It isn't consistent, but it occurs about 90% of the time when I'm on
Wayland. On Xorg, this has never occurred.

When I unplug my USB-C monitor from my laptop, the laptop screen
freezes for a while before presenting me with the login screen. When I
log back in, all my open applications have been shut down.

I assume Mutter crashes, taking the entire session with it.

Dmesg doesn't seem to contain anything useful.

A lot of other people seem to have this problem (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1733127), but all
have been asked to file their own bug reports, so here I am.

Status in libnl3 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libnl3 source package in Trusty:
  Won't Fix
Status in libnl3 source package in Xenial:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
It seems that there is a memory leak in the libnl-genl-3.0 library.
The memory-leak can be seen when the function genl_ctrl_resolve() fails.

It seems that this function copy a buffer and forget to deallocate it
properly:
    258 cb = nl_cb_clone(orig); // buffer copied not freed

  -
The following attached source-code can help you to reproduce this behavior on
Ubuntu 14.04.
It forces an issue on the genl_ctrl_resolve by asking an unknown
netlink-family.

  To compile program:
  g++ -std=c++11 main.cpp $(pkg-config --cflags --libs libnl-3.0
libnl-genl-3.0) -o main

  To detect memory-leak using Valgrind:
  valgrind --leak-check=full ./main

  -
Executing it on Debian 8.0 shows "no memory leak":
  sylvain@debian:~/test$ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Debian GNU/Linux 8.8 (jessie)
  Release: 8.8

  sylvain@debian:~/test$ g++ -std=c++11 main.cpp $(pkg-config --cflags --libs

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1958019]

2022-02-07 Thread cam
Lucas,

Do the CS35L5* chips require firmware to operate? It seems the
CS35L41/2's do not.

And out of curiosity, does the CLSA0101 have the CS35L51?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1958019]

2022-02-07 Thread tanure
Hi,

Please do not change CS35L41_AMP_GAIN_CTRL from 4.5 db.
Without the firmware for the device, the laptop speaker has no protection, and
a higher gain can damage the speaker.

Thanks
Lucas

Scanner: Canon, Inc. CanoScan N1240U/LiDE 30
Ubuntu 14.04, Simple Scan version 3.12.1.

Adjusting the settings of brightness and contrast has no effect.

With the default for scanning in "text" mode being too bright, this makes
"Simple Scan" in text mode unusable for me.
Brightness and contrast settings don't work in "foto" mode, too. But the
default of the foto mode is usable.

Brightness setting does work in program "Skanlite".

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1960147] Re: download desktop 20.04.3 lts

2022-02-07 Thread Brian Murray
I think this is actually an issue with Firefox as the http url you've
provided downloads fine with wget or Chromium.

I was able to recreate this with Firefox but only when using the http
link you provided in this bug report, when I visit the http version of
releases.ubuntu.com I'm redirected to the https site.

** Project changed: ubuntu-cdimage => firefox (Ubuntu)

I have installed Ubuntu 21.10 on my Intel NUC8I7HVK.

I can't figure out how to configure my SPDIF to connect to my speaker

The NUC audio is Realtek SLC700.

Can anyone help me properly configure my audio to recognize my SPDIF

digital output and support the 5.1 Dolby surround?

  -
In pavucontrol i don't see any SPDIF output, headphones work fine.

A number of desktop snaps are GTK apps, and without xdg-desktop-
portal-gtk installed on the host system the theming integration is
  poor.

ubuntu's desktop-minimal seed has this line:

  * (xdg-desktop-portal-gtk) # Useful for desktop snaps

I suggest kubuntu's desktop seed should consider installing it by
  default too.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1956005] Re: Firefox Snap won't open links to WhatsApp API

2022-02-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I can confirm links to https://api.whatsapp.com/ do not open correctly
in the firefox snap, and they do in the deb. However replacing "api" by
"web" seems to be enough to work around the problem.

Bug description:
The .deb version of Firefox handles links to WhatsApp API
  (https://api.whatsapp.com/send/?phone=) without any problem: these
links open the WhatsApp web client.

Snap version of Firefox doesn't know how to handle these links. It
opens the pop up "Choose an application to open whatsapp lnks" that
only shows the option System Handler (which fails opening them if
  selected).

Choosing Firefox is not possible as /bin and similar folders are out
  of range for the snap.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1958810] Re: Apt installing snap package if got some error why didnt finish, thinks apt is installed, but snap cant be removed

2022-02-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Thanks for the report, and sorry for the lack of response until now.
You mentioned an error while installing the chromium-browser deb package, but
the contents of Snap.Info.chromium.txt show that chromium 97.0.4692.99
(revision 1878) was installed.

Can you elaborate on the error, and what it is that you tried to remove
the package that failed?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1958812] Re: If apt installs snap package, then warn, because maybe i dont want snap package.

2022-02-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
The format of the package is irrelevant for most end users, a warning
wouldn't be helpful (quite possibly the opposite, it would make them
think there is something wrong with the installation, when everything is
working as intended).

Advanced users can use apt to read the description prior to installing:

$ apt show chromium-browser | grep Description
Description: Transitional package - chromium-browser -> chromium snap

And they always have the option to uninstall the snap afterwards if they
really don't want it:

$ snap remove chromium

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1950040] Re: Wayland Screensharing broken in Ubuntu 21.10

2022-02-07 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Just tested the following on a laptop running fully up-to-date 22.04, in the
default Wayland session:
 - firefox snap (97.0)
 - firefox deb (97.0)
 - chromium snap (98.0.4758.80)

Screen sharing (entire screen and selected windows) works as expected in
all cases.

marco, could you please test again and share feedback here?

  2. Select to share the whole desktop in the xdg-desktop-portal

nothing is shared in the browser.

This should be handled high priority since this is a critical feature

Filed against ubuntu-meta since I don't know exactly which package to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1936907] Re: [MIR] ADSys

2022-02-07 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

  [Availability]

Available on all archs, available starting hirsute. It will be
backported to Focal once an FFe has been accepted.

  [Rationale]

We are supporting GPO Active Directory support on ubuntu starting
hirsute. This features allows for an administrator to configure their
Active Directory server to deploy per-machine and per-user
configurations, enforce rules and other domain policies.

- Right now, dconf keys are supported.
+ Right now, dconf keys, sudo administration rights and computer and user
+ scripts are supported.

This feature is built and use the krb5 tickets which are provided by SSSD.
Basically:
  - SSSD is dealing with user and machine registration/authentification and
enforce password policies
  - ADSys is handling GPO enforcement and support. The Ubuntu specific policies
needs to be installed on the Active Directory server (they are contained in the
daemon).

  [Security]

The daemon is started is running as a root user to be able to enforce
machine policies, like rebuilding dconf databases, setting profiles.
User only interacts with the client side (both sides communicates over
GRPC), which can be ran as any user.

Polkit is used to restrain access to some part of the API.

There is a PAM module to build on demand per-user policy once
authenticated with SSSD. They are rejected if the authentication or not
all affected policies could be downloaded.

  [Quality assurance]

Joining a domain in the ubiquity desktop installer makes the machine
joining the AD domain and install adsys functionality. The package will
be seeded directly on the desktop ISO.

- An extensive testsuite (more than 700) is included and available as
+ An extensive testsuite (more than 1k) is included and available as
autopkgtests for rdepends. The whole stack is tested (even the
client/daemon interaction) and coverage is measured (including in the
small python script). However, tests with a real Active Directory server
can only be done manually as there is no setup available in the
  autopkgtests infrastructure.

  [Dependencies]

Main dependencies are libsmbclient, python3 (an embeeded script allows,
via samba, connecting to AD LDAP) and SSSD/KRB5.

This is a Go package, and all dependencies are vendored, and versions
are controlled via go.mod. We are using dependabot (from Github) to
automatically get notified of any dependencies updates (and security
issues), which opens a PR, rebuild and run all tests to report it there.
We are thus able to quickly merge them.

  [Standards compliance]

Standard debhelper packaging, including a systemd service.

  [Maintenance]

The desktop team will maintain it.

  * we commit to test no-change-rebuilds triggered by a dependent
library/compiler and to fix any issues found for the lifetime of the release
(including ESM when included)
  * we will provide timely testing of no-change-rebuilds from the security
team, fixing the rebuilt package as necessary
  * we commit to provide updates to the security team for any affected
vendored code for the lifetime of the release (including ESM when included)
  * we will provide timely, high quality updates for the security team to
sponsor to fix issues in the affected vendored code

-
  [Background information]

  ADSys is composed of:
  - a daemon, named adsysd, running as root. This one will shutdown after a
period of inactivity without any active request. It is socket activated.
  - a client, named adsysctl (which is a symlink to adsysd and only differ
behavior from its executable name), which is running as the user (or root on
boot for machine update). This ones optionally wakes up adsysd, connect through
an Unix socket with SO_PEERCRED to communicate current user running the
process. We are using grpc to communicate between the client and service.

Each client request is validated through polkit, matching user name and
permissions. The daemon will reject any unauthorized client connections.
Note that all actions are always performed from executing the client,
even the scheduled one by a cron.

- The daemon contains a python embeeded script to reuse samba utilities to
- connect with GSSAPI to the AD LDAP server and list available GPOs. GPOs

+ The daemon contains a python embedded script that uses samba utilities

+ GPOs are then downloaded in a cache directory which isn’t accessible to
  users.

The daemon also contains all GPOs policies to install on the Active
Directory side to reflect them in the UI. This could be accessed online
or dumped directly via the command line tool. Finally, those are
automatically refreshed for any supported LTSes and intermediate
versions. The availability of features can be different

[snap] Default ANGLE renderer doesn't work in headless mode

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I use a headless browser with Selenium to automate access to a WebGL-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1960014] Re: Missing Dutch language interface for LibreOffice in Snap installation

2022-02-07 Thread Peter Roelofsen
This is only an issue for me because Ubuntu now ships LibreOffice as
snap pack by default. I can, of course, download the full version from
the LibreOffice website, including language packs for any interface
languages that I want, and install it, but I'd have to repeat that for
every upgrade of LO. For many people, and for me, that's a bit much.
