Title:
  jammy beta xorg no kb / mouse

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  after updating to jammy beta, xorg does not work for any desktop, in
  every case the desktop comes up, but there is no response to keyboard
  or mouse (not even numlock). I tried unplugging and replugging the
  devices with no luck.

  All desktops do 'work' in the wayland version, but the display flashes
  frequently, showing parts of other windows

  ubuntu=bug gathers information, but does not open the browser window after
reporting that it's uploaded the data.

Title:
  jammy beta xorg no kb / mouse

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  after updating to jammy beta, xorg does not work for any desktop, in
  every case the desktop comes up, but there is no response to keyboard
  or mouse (not even numlock). I tried unplugging and replugging the
  devices with no luck.

  All desktops do 'work' in the wayland version, but the display flashes
  frequently, showing parts of other windows

  ubuntu=bug gathers information, but does not open the browser window after
reporting that it's uploaded the data.

Title:
  jammy beta xorg no kb / mouse

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  after updating to jammy beta, xorg does not work for any desktop, in
  every case the desktop comes up, but there is no response to keyboard
  or mouse (not even numlock). I tried unplugging and replugging the
  devices with no luck.

  All desktops do 'work' in the wayland version, but the display flashes
  frequently, showing parts of other windows

  ubuntu=bug gathers information, but does not open the browser window after
reporting that it's uploaded the data.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * In Ubuntu 20.04 (either impish, jammy, upstream gdm) (which using Xorg
with proprietary nvidia driver), in some cases, the nvidia driver will probe
later than launching gdm.
   * If above race condition happens in iGPU + nvidia cases and monitor
connects to dGPU, which will cause gdm starts with wayland as opposed to Xorg.
Which may lead the monitor stuck in black-screen or boot LOGO.

  [Test Plan]

   * The environment:
    1. A desktop or workstation which containing an iGPU.
    2. Plug a nvidia graphic card to the system and installing proprietary
    nvidia driver (470 in my case)
    3. Attach a monitor to dGPU and leave iGPU connect to nothing.
    (in my test environment, there is the other ethernet card and TBT4 cards)
   * Setup a cronjob,
     e.g. @reboot /home/u/test.sh
   * Have a test script in something like /home/u/test.sh as

  #!/bin/bash

  sleep 20
  count="$(cat /home/ubuntu/count)"
  count=$((count+1))
  echo $count | tee /home/ubuntu/count
  journalctl -b | grep -q -i wayland || sudo reboot

   * the system will probably stuck in black-screen or boot LOGO.
   * Before applying the fix, the fail rate is 6/24 (fail 6 time in 24 runs).
   * After applying the fix, it got pass within 1000+ reboot cycles.
   * Test PPA can be found here
https://launchpad.net/~os369510/+archive/ubuntu/lp1958488

  [Fix]
   * The patch makes gpu-manager to probe nvidia (if needed) first and waiting
for the /run/u-d-c-nvidia-drm-was-loaded be touched by
71-u-d-c-gpu-detection.rules.
   * Also, the gdm is using 61-gdm.rules to configure the gdm mode by checking
the nvidia driver presents or not.
   * gpu-manager is before display-manager. Thus, gpu-manager will wait for
nvidia uevent be processed and then continue to work. When gdm be launched, the
targeted nvidia uevent has been processed already.
(71-u-d-c-gpu-detection.rules is later than 61-gdm.rules)

  [Where problems could occur]
   * there is not potential regression from my mind but it will lead the boot
time be longer.
   * In my test cycles, it leads extra 0~1000ms in boot time. Usually, 0~200ms.
Worst case, over 1 s in 8xx runs (of 1000).
   * I think the stability is important than performance in this case.

  [Other Info]
   * For non-ubuntu-desktop (which doesn't have gpu-manager), which using gdm
will meet this issue still. The other potential fix (from either gdm or logind)
is under discussion in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/issues/763#note_1385786.
   * u-d-c upstream fix:
https://github.com/tseliot/ubuntu-drivers-common/pull/67

  ---

  Test environment/steps:
  1. A desktop or workstation which containing an iGPU.
  2. Plug a nvidia graphic card to the system and installing proprietary nvidia
driver (470 in my case)
  3. Attach a monitor to dGPU and leave iGPU connect to nothing.
  (in my test environment, there is the other ethernet card and TBT4 cards)
  4. Reboot system.

  Based on:
  $ cat /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules
  # disable Wayland on Hi1710 chipsets
  ATTR{vendor}=="0x19e5", ATTR{device}=="0x1711",
RUN+="/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-disable-wayland"
  # disable Wayland when using the proprietary nvidia driver
  DRIVER=="nvidia", RUN+="/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-disable-wayland"

  It will disable wayland by default if proprietary nvidia driver load.
  But in some race condition cases, the nvidia probe is later than gnome
launches. (The fail rate is 6/24.)
  Thus, ubuntu-gdm has a fix for Bug#1794280 to add
"ExecStartPre=@libexecdir@/gdm-wait-for-drm".

  The gdm-wait-for-drm is intend to make sure all drm udev devices
  enumerated before launching gdm.

  It rely on at least one "master-of-seat" graphic card for gdm but it's not
rigorous enough.
  Since most of graphic cards are own "master-of-seat"[1].

  In my case, it detects the iGPU is probed but dGPU.
  However, the display is attached to dGPU.

  We need to make sure the targeted gpu (connecting to

  Original Bug Report
  ---
  Evolution has suddenly stopped displaying message contents on the last 24h.
Starting it up from the command line shows this output:

  ```
  EGLDisplay Initialization failed: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED
  Cannot create EGL context: invalid display (last error: EGL_SUCCESS)
  ```

  I don't know if it's related, but googling around shows some webkitgtk
  hits on this error.

  The email contents are however clickable. They're just not rendered to
  screen (see attached file).

  Deleting the evolution folders from `~/.config`, `~/.cache` and
  `~/.local/share` does not help.

  Email accounts are all google, configured through gnome online
  accounts.

  Workaround #1
  -
  You can run the app from the command line with
  WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 evolution
  (Replace evolution with the name of the webkit app you are trying to use)

  Workaround #2
  -
  Log out.
  Select your name on the login screen.
  Click the gear button and choose Ubuntu on Xorg.
  Enter your password to finish logging in.

Bug description:
  I have been using nvidia-graphics-drivers-470 for a while. In January,
  I tried the 495 drivers, but this resulted in failing to start the GUI
  when booting: the mouse cursor would appear, but then the screen would
  clear and the switch to graphics would be attempted again. This would
  repeat until restarted, so I used recovery mode to test that a) it
  still happened with that (yes) and b) to go back to the 470 drivers
  via the root terminal.

  For some reason, yesterday xscreensaver had a problem getting the
  right GLcontext. I noticed that the 510 drivers were available, so
  used Software & Updates's Additional Drivers to install those.

  Exactly the same issue as with the 495 drivers: the mouse cursor
  appears for a second, then disappears, and reappears, and.. until I
  reboot and go back to 470.

  I am using Ubuntu MATE 21.10 with a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti card.

  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description:  Ubuntu 21.10
  Release:  21.10

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1967637] Re: gnome-extensions-app crashing on startup, not producing reportable crash for some reason

2022-04-02 Thread Jonathan Kamens
I have two machines with Jammy on them and this is happening reliably on
one but not the other.

On the one where it's happening, it happens even immediately after I've
updated all out-of-date packages and rebooted the machine.

I don't know why it's not generating a crash report. :-(

  I seem to remember that there was a setting where you could choose,

Thanks, it was indeed a separate issue. Needed to remove bluez-alsa-utils...
All is good now, would be great if one could change the codec through
gnome-control-center. Pavucontrol method works.

  No gstreamer dependency causes high-fidelity codecs to be missing for

Status in PulseAudio:

Status in gst-plugins-bad1.0 package in Ubuntu:

Status in gstreamer1.0 package in Ubuntu:

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  After the announcements of PulseAudio 15 and Gstreamer 1.20, which
  both advertised LDAC and AptX (HD) support, I expected that jammy
  (22.04) would support those codecs.

  Though in reality it seems that something is missing, gstreamer
  reports that those codecs are supported but "pactl [...] list-codec"
  only lists sbc (and variants).

  Checking here https://packages.ubuntu.com/jammy/pulseaudio-module-
  bluetooth it seems that PulseAudio is not built with gstreamer
  support, is that the current blocker?

What does this mean? Appendix? Please give us more details about how you
are experiencing the problem.

It is not sufficient to file a bug against the Ubuntu project in
general. You need to assign one or more packages that are affected by
the problem which I will do for you now.

While running an Ubuntu installation please execute the following
command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging
information, in a terminal:

   apport-collect 1967558

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1967624] [NEW] zsysd fails with "index out of range" go-libzfs (*Pool).ReloadProperties

2022-04-02 Thread Felix

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1967121] Re: Glitch on multiple windows selector when auto-hide is enabled

2022-04-02 Thread Johon Doee
Super annoying bug, and a regression as this didn't happen with Ubuntu
21.10.

The problem also happens if you set the dock to auto-hide, open the
dock, and right-click one of the favorites that are placed in the dock.
As soon as the right-click menu opens the dock auto-hides. Sometimes the
menu jumps to the very left of the screen, sometimes it just stays there
but in both cases it's wrong behavior.

Please fix that. Thanks.

Title:
  Glitch on multiple windows selector when auto-hide is enabled

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Currently testing a fresh install of the beta for 22.04.
  All packages are up to date.

  When having the dock auto-hide option enabled, a glitch occurs when opening
the windows selector (when multiple instances of the same program are opened).
  The selector does open, but the dock will hide itself immediately instead of
waiting for a selection. Selecting a window will then cause a glitch where the
selector will align with the hidden dock in a non natural way before
disappearing.

  A proposed fix would be to prevent the dock from auto-hiding when the
  miniatures selector opens and wait for a second input.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1960307] Re: No gstreamer dependency causes high-fidelity codecs to be missing for Bluetooth devices

2022-04-02 Thread Igor V. Kovalenko
Whether your headset cannot be switched from HFP to A2DP is a separate
issue anyway. You can try pairing and trusting the device again, also
please check if you have pipewire audio enabled which could seldom take
over bluetooth a2dp, and see if bluetoothd log has anything related.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948339] Re: Logon screen can be bypassed using various shortcuts

2022-04-02 Thread Martin Wimpress 
Sorry for the late reply on this issue. I only saw it a few days ago.
I've spoken with the Arctica greeter developer and we've been working on
a fix.

The issue is this, Arctica Greeter requires a window manager and it
invokes Marco, the window manager from MATE Desktop. Marco handles
keybindings and by default has a number predefined. Ubuntu MATE adds a
few more. This is why you are able to invoke applications bound to
keybindings in Marco from Arctica Greeter.

The proposed solution is to add a patch to Marco so that it can be
invoked with keybindings disabled and then patch Arctica Greeter to
invoke Marco with the argument to disable its keybindings.

I will start preparing patched versions of Marco and Artica Greeter in a
PPA for testing/validation.

Bug description:
  Hi,

  my little daughter discovered a logon screen bypass in Ubuntu Mate
  21.10 after hitting the keyboard for a while.

  It turns out that several keyboard shortcuts are allowed while Ubuntu
  Mate is locked (arctica-greeter):

  - Mod4 + S (mate-search-tool)
  - Mod4 + E (Open Caja / File Explorer)
  - CTRL + Shift + Esc (mate-system-monitor)
  - PRNT (Screenshot)

  All of the mentioned shortcuts could be used to spawn a file explorer
  (Caja) or various other binaries as user "lightdm", who owns the logon
  screen.

  Although an interactive terminal like mate-terminal, xterm, lxterm
  etc. could not be opened directly, there are various options to run
  commands as the lightdm user, for example by creating a shell script
  using "caja", and execute it directly using the GUI.

  I've attached Proof-of-Concept GIFs for all shortcuts mentioned above.
  There might be additional shortcuts that could be used to achieve the
  same, however I'm not aware about every shortcut that is configured,
  but I suppose that the root cause is located somewhere in arctica-
  greeter, rather than within every single binary launched by shortcuts.

  The bug was reproduced on a fresh installation of Ubuntu Mate 21.10. I
  haven't tested other versions of Ubuntu Mate yet.

  Please find additional version details below:

Using Ubntu 22.04 since some weeks now.

Rearrange/Move tabs/Bookmarks with Drag does also not work here on Wayland

(Firefox Snap 98.0.2-1, also tried beta 99.0b8-1)

At XOrg-Session Drag works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1967596] [NEW] Gnome on-screen keyboard unreliable

2022-04-02 Thread Nicholas Harvey
Public bug reported:

I have upgrade from 21.10 to 22.04 Beta on my Microsoft Surface Go 2
tablet. I generally use it via the tough screen but I also have a type
cover I can attach.

There are a number of instances where the on-screen keyboard does not
appear or does not prove the required input. Examples are as follows:

- Firefox (snap) - trying to enter credentials into the Bitwarden
extension. Tapping into the text fields does not bring up the keyboard.

- Pycharm (snap) - creating a new project in the start-up wizard,
tapping in the filename box does not bring up the on screen keyboard.

- When you lock the tablet and then try to unlock it via the Gnome
unlock screen, tapping in the password box does bring up the keyboard
but any keys pressed do not appear in the password box.

All of the above can be worked around by attaching the Type Cover and
using the physical keyboard.

If I an collect any diagnostic data for this please send me the
instructions ans I'll see what I can do.

Thanks
