[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003387] Re: ubuntu-desktop-minimal should depend on cryptsetup, lvm2

2023-01-20 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Marking all packages as 'auto' like that is not supported.

Besides cryptsetup and lvm2, there are several other packages that are
available for the installer and only kept on the system if they are
needed:

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu-
seeds/+git/ubuntu/tree/ship-live

The installer also includes support for many languages but only English
and the configured language is kept on the installed system.

We will likely close this bug since this is intended behavior.

  Two packages that they don't depend on, but should, or at least it should
recommend them are:
  - cryptsetup
  - lvm2

  The reason is that if Ubuntu was installed with disk encryption and/or
  LVM turned on, these packages are essential. The system won't even
  boot without cryptsetup, for example (found this out the hard way).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003387] Re: ubuntu-desktop-minimal should depend on cryptsetup, lvm2

2023-01-20 Thread Peter
@jbicha
After installation, it was fine. It's just that in the process of trying to
clean up leftover packages years later, I did something like:

# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
# apt-mark auto '*'
# apt-mark manual ubuntu-minimal
# apt-mark manual ubuntu-desktop-minimal
# apt-mark manual linux-generic
...same for some other packages I actively used...
# apt-get autopurge

After these steps, the system was left in an unbootable state because in
the "autopurge" / autoremove stage, cryptsetup was uninstalled, hence it
was missing from the new initrd.

I don't know if this is an "intended use case" for the ubuntu-* metapackages,
but apart from cryptsetup (and lvm2 which I suspected is needed so I
fortunately marked it as manual), every other package that's needed for a
functioning system is actually Depended / Recommended by the combination of
ubuntu-minimal and ubuntu-desktop-minimal.

(Only other exception being the kernel package but I understand the
reasoning behind that.)

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:

Status in software-properties source package in Focal:

Status in software-properties source package in Jammy:
  New

Bug description:
  * Impact

  We want desktop integration with Ubuntu Pro, that will also replace
  the custom registration code we had for Livepatch which is integrated
  with the new service

  * Test case

  - ensure that the machine isn't attached to ubuntu pro (otherwise the screen
would not be displayed) and is online
  $ pro status
  and `$ pro deteach` if needed

  - until the service is in production to try the magic workflow, edit
/etc/ubuntu-advantage/uaclient.conf to set
  contract_url: https://contracts.staging.canonical.com
  then 'ua refresh config')
  and use the non staging for token registration

  - $ software-properties-gtk
  -> the list of tabs should include an 'Ubuntu Pro' one and no 'Livepatch'

  The Ubuntu Pro tab should state 'This machine is not covered by an
  Ubuntu Pro subscription', display a 'Enable Ubuntu Pro' button and
  have other controls inactive

  - click 'Enable Ubuntu Pro'
  -> A dialog 'Enable Ubuntu Pro' opens
  -> the first option 'Enter code on ubuntu.com/pro/attach' is selected
  -> a pincode is displayed under the option

  - go to http//ubuntu.com/pro/attach and enter the pincode
  -> after some seconds the software-properties UI should update and display a
green mark and 'Valid token' label on the right of the pincode

  - click 'Confirm'
  -> you should get an authentification prompt

  - enter your password
  -> a spinner starts animating instead of the 'Valid token' label
  -> once the attachment job is done the dialog is autoclosed
  -> the UI should now state 'Ubuntu Pro support is enabled', under Security
'ESM Infra', 'ESM Apps' and 'Kernel Livepatch' should be displayed an enabled
  (or without 'ESM Apps' if you don't have the current ubuntu-advantage-tools)

  - check that the '$ pro status' output matches the UI one

  - try enabling/disable options
  -> verify that the 'pro status' change accordingly

  - Click 'Disable Ubuntu Pro'
  -> you get asked for confirmation and password
  -> confirm that the UI is back to the original state and that 'pro status'
confirm the system isn't attached to Ubuntu Pro anymore

  - Go through the testcase again but selecting the 'Or add token
  manually' option, the steps should be similar

  * Regression Potential

  There could be problems in the UI
  The new service could be not working as expected
  Strings are new and currently have no translations

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1997168] Re: [snap] Passwords are saved but not loaded with gnome keyring

2023-01-20 Thread Nathan Teodosio
This fix is now released to the edge channel of the official snap. Since
it requires moving private data file out of the way (as in step 2 of #3,
but a single file instead of a whole directory) so that another good one
can replace it, it includes directions for the user to do it himself.

Title:
  [snap] Passwords are saved but not loaded with gnome keyring

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  * System: Fresh (minimal, desktop) installation of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS in
VirtualBox to rule out any side-effects from preexisting configurations
  * Install latest updates: `sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y && sudo apt
dist-upgrade -y && sudo snap refresh`
  * Install chromium from snap (`sudo snap install chromium`)
  * Connect chromium to password manager service (`sudo snap connect
chromium:password-manager-service`) -> now chromium should be able to use gnome
keyring to store its master password
  * Launch chromium, navigate to "chrome://settings/passwords"
  * Add a new password ("Saved Passwords" -> "Add")
  * Password shows up under "Saved Passwords" as expected.
  * Close chromium and open it again, navigate to "chrome://settings/passwords"
  * Expected: Password should show up. Instead: The list is empty.
  * Add another password: List stays empty.

  What I found out so far:

  * Despite of the list showing up as empty in chromium, both passwords have
been stored in "~/snap/chromium/common/chromium/Default/Login Data" (to
confirm, grep for the username of the saved login, as the password itself will
be encrypted)
  * It seems that the snap version of chromium does not create the entries
"Chrome Safe Storage" and "Chrome Safe Storage Control" in the gnome keyring,
which seems to be necessary at the moment (see http://crbug.com/660005). If a
non-snap version of chromium (e.g. from
https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/chromium) is installed first,
which is used to bootstrap the user's chromium config folder and which creates
the aforementioned entries in the gnome keyring, things are working fine, even
after transitioning to the snap version.

Bug description:
  With GTK 3.24.35, when running under Wayland, it's not possible to
  copy and paste from Geany. (Others report the same issue with SciTE,
  which also uses the Scintilla editor.)

  The Geany upsteam bug isolated the issue to a GTK change
  (https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/3345#issuecomment-1360370992).

  The GTK bug (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/5397) was
  resolved

(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/commit/eca445672a48ac4a870790efa63339f8d974c2fd)
  and the fix is in GTK 3.24.36.

  I installed the libgtk-3-0_3.24.36-1_amd64.deb and
  libgtk-3-common_3.24.36-1_all.deb packages from Debian on a Lunar test
  system and this did resolve the issue.

Bug description:
  The meta-packages ubuntu-desktop-minimal / ubuntu-minimal depend on
  everything needed for a functioning desktop / server installation
  respectively. Well, almost everything.

  The release of Ubuntu you are using: 22.10
  The version of the package you are using: ubuntu-desktop-minimal 1.497

  When I import the file, it gives me the name ("client") and gateway

  populated even though the client.ovpn file also includes a user

  When I go to advanced, some (most) of the settings obviously seem to

Bug description:
  Lock screen (gnome-screensaver) uses last active window's language
  (keyboard layout) instead of default keyboard language.

  Steps to reproduce this bug:
  1. In the system Text Entry settings:
1a. add two or more languages to the input sources list, e.g. English (as
first and default) and Russian (as second);
1b. Set hotkeys to switch sources (e.g. Ctrl+Shift or CapsLock).
1c. Select "Allow different sources for each window" radio button.
1d. Select "New windows use the default source" radio button.
  2. Run any application (e.g. gedit) and switch keyboard to second input
language (Russian).
  3. Lock the screen (Ctrl+Alt+L) or just wait idle time.

Title:
  imap and smtp to outlook.office365.com over oauth2 problem

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Good morning,

  Since yesterday january 18 2023 Thunderbird cannot connect to my
  company email anymore, both imap and smtp. Mail server for imap is
  outlook.office365.com, port 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2. For smtp:
  smtp.office365.com port 587, STARTTLS, OAuth2.

  On january 17 and before, all was working well with the same settings.
  Thunderbird version is 102.7.0 (64-bit) on an up-to-date Ubuntu 22.10.
  When I start TB from a terminal, I get this:

  ```
  [ImapModuleLoader] Using nsImapService.cpp
  [NntpModuleLoader] Using NntpService.jsm
  [Pop3ModuleLoader] Using Pop3Service.jsm
  That last bit (to me) seems to indicate a client side (TB) issue. If
  anybody knows or can make a fix, that would be great, I much prefer TB
  to the MS web interface.
  Best,
  Joolz.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003231] Re: Replace the Livepatch step by Ubuntu Pro
2023-01-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Changed in: gnome-initial-setup (Ubuntu)
   Status: In Progress => Invalid
--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2003231
Title:
  Replace the Livepatch step by Ubuntu Pro
Status in gnome-initial-setup package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Bug description:
  * Impact
  We want desktop integration with Ubuntu Pro, that will also replace
  the custom registration code we had for Livepatch which is integrated
  with the new service
  * Test case
  - log in an Ubuntu session
  - ensure that the machine isn't attached to ubuntu pro (otherwise the screen
would not be displayed)
  $ pro status
  and `$ pro deteach` if needed
  - start the wizard
  $ rm ~/.config/gnome-initial-setup-done
  $ /usr/libexec/gnome-initial-setup --existing-user
  the second step should be 'Enable Ubuntu Pro'
  - Let Skip selected and click 'Next'
  -> verify that it moves to the next page
  - Click 'Previous'
  -> it goes back to 'Enable Ubuntu Pro'
  - Select 'Enable Ubuntu Pro' and click 'Next'
  -> the first option 'Enter code on ubuntu.com/pro/attach' is selected and a
PIN is display
  - go to http://ubuntu.com/pro/attach and enter the PIN
  -> the UI should update to display 'Valid token' nex to the PIN
  - click 'Next'
  a password prompt is displayed which is required to attach the machine
  then a spinner is activated while the machine is behind attached to the
service
  once the registration is done it's moving to the 'Ubuntu Pro Services' page
  -> enabled services should list ESM infra/ESM apps/livepatch
  - go to a cmdline and do
  $ pro status
  the machine should be listed as attached
  - check the top panel, the livepatch indicator should be displayed
  - click 'Next'
  -> it moves to the next page 'Help Improve Ubuntu'
  go through the remaining wizard steps
  * Regression Potential
  There could be problems in the UI
  The new service could be not working as expected
  Strings are new and currently have no translations
  Note that the changes aren't available in Lunar since the feature is
  going to be provided by the new subiquity based desktop installer
  going forward (gnome-inital-setup got ported from GTK3 to GTK4 in
  Kinetic so we can't simply use the current changeset until that point)
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003527] [NEW] Replace the Livepatch tab by an Ubuntu Pro one
2023-01-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:
* Impact
We want desktop integration with Ubuntu Pro, that will also replace the
custom registration code we had for Livepatch which is integrated with
the new service
* Test case
- ensure that the machine isn't attached to ubuntu pro (otherwise the screen
would not be displayed) and is online
$ pro status
and `$ pro deteach` if needed
$ software-properties-gtk
-> the list of tabs should include an 'Ubuntu Pro' one and no 'Livepatch'
The Ubuntu Pro tab should state 'This machine is not covered by an
Ubuntu Pro subscription', display a 'Enable Ubuntu Pro' button and have
other controls inactive
- click 'Enable Ubuntu Pro'
-> A dialog 'Enable Ubuntu Pro' opens
-> the first option 'Enter code on ubuntu.com/pro/attach' is selected
-> a pincode is displayed under the option
- go to http//ubuntu.com/pro/attach and enter the pincode
-> after some seconds the software-properties UI should update and display a
green mark and 'Valid token' label on the right of the pincode
- click 'Confirm'
-> you should get an authentification prompt
- enter your password
-> a spinner starts animating instead of the 'Valid token' label
-> once the attachment job is done the dialog is autoclosed
-> the UI should now state 'Ubuntu Pro support is enabled', under Security 'ESM
Infra', 'ESM Apps' and 'Kernel Livepatch' should be displayed an enabled
- check that the '$ pro status' output matches the UI one
- try enabling/disable options
-> verify that the 'pro status' change accordingly
- Click 'Disable Ubuntu Pro'
-> you get asked for confirmation and password
-> confirm that the UI is back to the original state and that 'pro status'
confirm the system isn't attached to Ubuntu Pro anymore
- Go through the testcase again but selecting the 'Or add token
manually' option, the steps should be similar
* Regression Potential
There could be problems in the UI
The new service could be not working as expected
Strings are new and currently have no translations
** Affects: software-properties (Ubuntu)
 Importance: High
 Status: Fix Released
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003410] Re: freeze after lead is closest, have black screen without any message, just after hard reset it work
2023-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:
1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.
2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.
Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2001914] Re: The gpu hangs and is not possible to work with GPU-envioronment
2023-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Does the bug still happen with the latest kernel update 5.15.0-58.64 ?
Try updating:
  sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade
and then reboot.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998950] Re: GPU hang on Alder Lake laptop
2023-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yeah I can't see this bug anymore on kinetic with kernel
5.19.0-29-generic. So this is closed and bug 2001914 separated.
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Fix Released
** No longer affects: mesa (Ubuntu)
  GPU hang on Alder Lake laptop
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Bug description:
  I see frequent (multiple times per day) hangs on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1
  Carbon Gen 10.  When this occurs, part of the image tears away and X
  becomes unusable.  Sometimes the cursor continues to move for a short
  time after the fact.  In order to recover, I must SSH into the machine
  and run `sudo killall -9 Xorg`, which drops me back to the lightdm
  login screen and then things work again.
  I've also seen this on Debian sid on a nearly identical machine, and
  there when upgrading to kernel 6.0 and Mesa 22.3, the problem
  disappears.  However, those are not available in Kinetic.
  I've tried both `i915.enable_psr=0` and `i915.enable_dc=0` as boot
  parameters and this does not affect anything.  The problem has been
  occurring since I installed Ubuntu on this machine when I got it on
  November 17.
  I believe the upstream bug report is this:
