[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003726] Re: pipewire-pulse unnecessarily recommends pipewire-alsa to emulate pulseaudio's packaging
** Changed in: pipewire (Debian) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pipewire in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2003726 Title: pipewire-pulse unnecessarily recommends pipewire-alsa to emulate pulseaudio's packaging Status in pipewire package in Ubuntu: New Status in pipewire package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: Reported to Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/1029377 pipewire-pulse and pulseaudio can be co-installed on a system, but if both are installed at once, the "Recommends: pipewire-alsa" line in pipewire-pulse creates a situation where the dependency cannot be resolved due to a conflict between pipewire-alsa and pulseaudio. This is especially true when both are being seeded in Ubuntu Studio with the intent of being switchable via services with a utility such as Studio Controls. This also causes a regression in https://bugs.debian.org/1020903 in which a conflict existed between pipewire-pulse and pulseaudio that was unnecessary because, as stated in the bug report, both can be installed simultaneously and enabled/disabled via services. If Debian does not resolve this upstream, I recommend we fix this in our own packaging as to not break workflows. Professional audio users cannot use the pipewire-jack system as it does not provide the right kind of functionality for some hardware, which is why the switch was to be implemented. For example, the alsa backend for jack must be disabled for some firewire devices which require the FFADO backend instead. This has been resolved, hopefully temporarily, by removing pulseaudio from Ubuntu Studio's seed. We hope to bring it back, but this issue has caused some very unfortunate issues that will become workflow issues for our users. This was introduced by this commit: https://salsa.debian.org/utopia- team/pipewire/-/commit/a221352ddd19e424ff8d4fe15b7ddb601ac1892c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pipewire/+bug/2003726/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1991022] Re: [FFe] Socket activation
This package exists in Lunar again and the fix has been released upstream, marking as Fix Released. ** Changed in: speech-dispatcher (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to speech-dispatcher in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1991022 Title: [FFe] Socket activation Status in speech-dispatcher package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: [Description] Systemd socket activation for Speech Dispatcher. - Creates the speech-dispatcher.socket; - Modifies the server so that it can detect it was automatically launched by that socket activation; and - Modifies the Autotools files accordingly. [Rationale] It's relevance is described in [1], of which I quote the essential parts [my notes in brackets]: > Sandboxed applications [snaps] that use Speech Dispatcher currently bundle it inside of the sandbox, so that each application has its own "private" instance of Speech Dispatcher running. This works more or less, but it has the downside that speech dispatcher cannot coordinate simultaneous messages from multiple apps. When multiple sandboxed apps use Speech Dispatcher at the same time, the text reading overlaps. > > In order to solve this issue, I would really like to give sandboxed apps access to the Speech Dispatcher instance of the host. And then, > The only issue I see is having it auto launch. I think it would probably be a good step forward for speech-dispatcher to be auto launched by a systemd socket like other daemons already do on demand. That way the host speech-dispatcher with it's configuration would be used by all snaps, [Additional information] The changes are already merged upstream[2], but still not released. I have built and installed the package in Kinetic and verified that spd-say still causes the dispatcher spawn and emits sound. Upstream test can also confirm this. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2002290] Re: Poor Arabic rendering in VTE
Thanks for testing and confirming! I have uploaded the gnome-terminal change to lunar. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2002290 Title: Poor Arabic rendering in VTE Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in vte2.91 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: VTE has a number of issues when it comes to rendering Arabic letters in the terminal, which could affect a number of languages (Arabic, Urdu, Persian... etc). Bug 1: Any Arabic word in any VTE-based terminal is choppily displayed with spaces between its letters, making readability hard and sometimes not possible. Sometimes the letters are crushed together very closely making reading impossible too. Bug 2: If a non-Arabic text and an Arabic text are displayed together in the same line, then the entire line will be missed up and you won't be able to understand what is being said. Both of these bugs can be seen from the image I attached. I reported both of these bugs together because it's unlikely they can be fixed separately, probably they are related to each other. Problem can be seen in any VTE-based terminal. Here I am using GNOME Terminal 3.44.0 on Ubuntu 22.04, but it can be seen in any Ubuntu version and in any terminal version as well (it has been there since forever). I reported the bug here instead of upstream because that's what they said at the page: https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Terminal/ReportingBugs, but this bug is not related to Ubuntu only; it happens on all Linux distributions. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998917] Re: Everything prints approximately 2% too small after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04
PPD file from 18.04. The MD5 does not match the other one so it is definitely different somehow. Note that the name is nearly identical but has an extra underscore at the end for some reason. Also there are two print queues for this printer on the old machine. I didn't try the other one. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2002290] Re: Poor Arabic rendering in VTE
Thank you Gunnar, for the help! Indeed it works well on my testing (image attached); GNOME Terminal's custom font option is disabled (so it is using the default font), and Ubuntu Mono is still used in GNOME Tweaks, and still the GNOME Terminal now uses Monospace font by default, making the first problem solved. Thanks again for the help. Best. ** Attachment added: "gnome terminal with default monospace font.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vte2.91/+bug/2002290/+attachment/5643448/+files/gnome%20terminal%20with%20default%20monospace%20font.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2002290 Title: Poor Arabic rendering in VTE Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in vte2.91 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: VTE has a number of issues when it comes to rendering Arabic letters in the terminal, which could affect a number of languages (Arabic, Urdu, Persian...
Thanks. Please attach the PPD and error_log from that 18.04 computer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1998917 Title: Everything prints approximately 2% too small after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04 Status in cups package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: To reproduce: 1. Open Inkscape. 2. Draw a rectangle 170mm x 230mm. 3. Print it. Expected result: The printed rectangle on paper should measure 170mm x 230mm. Actual result: The rectangle measures 168mm x 226mm, a difference of approximately 2%. I print a lot of labels. I make them in both LibreOffice (for mail merge) and Inkscape (when I want them all the same). I use standard downloaded templates in LibreOffice and in Inkscape I have made my own manually. I recently upgraded to 22.04 and now whenever I print any of my existing documents they no longer line up with the labels. They line up in the top left of the page but at the bottom right they are misaligned, shifted up and left. This happens because the entire page is now printed 2% smaller. Nothing else has changed about my setup: it is the same printer and the same documents printing differently. The printer is a network printer. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2002290] Re: Poor Arabic rendering in VTE
I have submitted a merge request, which changes the default font for GNOME Terminal from Ubuntu Mono to DejaVu Sans Mono if the user has selected Arabic as the display language: https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-terminal/-/merge_requests/8 A version of gnome-terminal for jammy with that patch applied is available in this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-terminal Please test and provide feedback. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Gunnar Hjalmarsson (gunnarhj) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2002290 Title: Poor Arabic rendering in VTE Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in vte2.91 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: VTE has a number of issues when it comes to rendering Arabic letters in the terminal, which could affect a number of languages (Arabic, Urdu, Persian...
Also I just tried printing the test document on another computer which still has Ubuntu 18.04 installed. The output rectangle was undersized by less than 1mm, which seems okay. With the second generation (2.x) cups-filters upstream got split into 5 independent component repositories: - libcupsfilters - libppd - cups-filters - braille-printer-app - cups-browsed See https://openprinting.github.io/cups-filters-Second-Generation-First- Beta-Release/ braille-printer-app still needs some upstream work for getting released, the others were already released as 2.0b2. libcupsfilters, cups-filters, and cups-browsed contain mainly the code from the former cups-filters (1.x) which is already in Main. libppd contains code from CUPS (libcups and cups-ppdc) which is also in Main. As of https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-mir -- If a new source package contains only code which is already in main (e.g. the result of a source package split or rename, or source packages with a version in the name), it may not need a full review. Submitting a MIR bug with an explanation (but without the full template) or updating/extending on the existing old MIR bug and re-opening it by setting it to "NEW" is sufficient. -- This report does not need the full template. The original packages (cups-filters and cups) are in Main already for more than a decade, so repetition of the original MIR would not be useful. cups was already in Ubuntu from the very beginning on and therefore probably in Main since the differentiation of Main and Universe got introduced. The binary packages are named as before (except SONAME of libraries being 2 instead of 1 now), binary packages for libppd added. So current dependencies and seeding should pull in everything (libppd is a library and cups-filters depends on it). libfontembed has been discontinued (folded into libcupsfilters, API removed) but no package uses it (except the components of cups-filters 1.x thenselves). braille-printer-app will be added to this report (or a new simplified MIR report created) as soon as it gets released upstream. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003844] Re: Screensharing from my browser (Firefox snap) freezes the display requiring a hard reboot
Thanks for the bug report. There doesn't seem to be anything freeze-related being written to the log so there are a few possibilities: * The kernel froze (most likely in nvidia) * gnome-shell or Xorg froze without crashing * gnome-shell or Xorg did crash and there might be evidence in /var/crash If you find no evidence in /var/crash then I would try either uninstalling the Nvidia driver or the card itself, or disabling the card in the BIOS. Just to see what it takes to avoid the freeze. Because I'm guessing if you boot with purely Intel graphics then the bug will stop happening (and not just because that will default to Wayland instead of Xorg). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2003844 Title: Screensharing from my browser (Firefox snap) freezes the display requiring a hard reboot Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: In the firefox snap (although I'm not convinced it is specific to the firefox snap) when in a google meets session, I choose to share either my screen or a specific browser tab. In ~40% of instances this results in a complete visual freeze of my system with no interactivity. Audio / Microphone / Webcam /keyboard are still functional during this time. But I need to hard restart to be able to interact with my system again. This happens more often the longer my system has been running and is pretty much guaranteed to happen once a day if I am presenting multiple times. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003843] [NEW] Sinhala fonts not displaying correctly in version 0.6-4 of the 'fonts-lklug-sinhala' package
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce the issue: "I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 and found that the 'fonts-lklug-sinhala' package is causing font display issues when browsing web pages with Sinhala unicodes using Chrome, Firefox, and Brave. This issue did not occur on previous versions of Ubuntu." Expected behavior: "I expect to view web pages with Sinhala unicodes correctly with no font display issues." Actual behavior: "When accessing web pages with Sinhala unicodes, the fonts are not displayed correctly, showing weird combination of characters instead. This issue occurs with all the browsers I've tried (Chrome, Firefox, and Brave)." System information: "I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 and the issue started after upgrading. I removed the 'fonts-lklug-sinhala' package and the issue was resolved." Any other relevant information: "By default, Ubuntu uses this package to display Sinhala unicodes, and I did not encounter this issue before upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04. It is appearing on all web pages with Sinhala unicodes" ** Affects: fonts-lklug-sinhala (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Here I attached screenshots of issue" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2003843/+attachment/5643249/+files/screenshots%20of%20issue.pdf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to fonts-lklug-sinhala in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2003843 Title: Sinhala fonts not displaying correctly in version 0.6-4 of the 'fonts- lklug-sinhala' package Status in fonts-lklug-sinhala package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Steps to reproduce the issue: "I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 and found that the 'fonts-lklug-sinhala' package is causing font display issues when browsing web pages with Sinhala unicodes using Chrome, Firefox, and Brave.
