[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004533] Re: very unstable desktop, icons vanish, cannot control windows, cannot resize or scale multi monitors easily.

2023-02-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Two suggestions:

1. Delete all locally installed extensions (like bitcoin-
mark...@ottoallmendinger.github.com):

   cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
   rm -rf extensions

   and then log in again.

2. If the problem still isn't solved then try disabling desktop icons:

   gnome-extensions disable d...@rastersoft.com

   and log in again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1972790] Re: Can't connect to hotspot created on ubuntu

2023-02-01 Thread John Pietrzak
I'd just like to repeat, this is Linux. Just because Ubuntu offers a
feature doesn't mean you have to use it. I'm using the "Linux Wifi
Hotspot" app created by Lakinduakash:

https://github.com/lakinduakash/linux-wifi-hotspot

It works just fine on Ubuntu.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1972790

Title:
Can't connect to hotspot created on ubuntu

Status in wpa package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
We currently have older systems (18.04) with hotspot's and we will migrate to
22.04.
Anything work's fine, expect the hotspot.
The Hotspot will be created and is visible in the WLAN-List, but if the
security is set to "WPA & WPA2 Personal" we get the error message "Failed to
connect to the network".
If we change the Security to "WPA3 Personal" we get the error message
"Invalid Password", even if the password is correct.
As soon we remove the security (change it to "none"), we can connect with out
any problems.

We can reproduce it with a fresh installtion of the Ubuntu Server
22.04 and the following two commands:

  apt install network-manager

nmcli c add type wifi ifname wlp3s0 con-name Hotspot autoconnect yes
  ssid test-ap 802-11-wireless.mode ap 802-11-wireless.band bg
  802-11-wireless.mac-address "80:45:dd:f0:27:ba" wifi-sec.group ccmp
  wifi-sec.key-mgmt wpa-psk wifi-sec.pairwise ccmp wifi-sec.proto rsn
  wifi-sec.psk "test12345" ipv4.addresses 192.168.60.1/24 ipv4.method
shared && nmcli connection up Hotspot

We thought it could be similar to this issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1958267
Because if we test it with 20.04 it worked fine, because 20.04 uses the
Version 2:2.9.0-21build1 as described in the Ticket.

  As @Sebastian Bacher suggested
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1958267/comments/58), i
created a own report.
In the attachment is the requested log file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004416] Re: Bluetooth Headset Loses Audio

2023-02-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like the log in comment #3 is now describing a new bug instead
of the original bug here. Please ensure you provide a log from when the
original bug occurred.

What I can see in the log is that the Realtek kernel driver (and
possibly the hardware) has failed just before Bluetooth audio has
problems. So it seems likely the issues are originating in the hardware
or in the kernel driver and we don't need to track this in pipewire.

Unfortunately the next step I would recommend here would be to try a USB
dongle that contains an Intel Wifi+Bluetooth chip instead. I know that's
annoying but if the Realtek hardware or kernel driver is buggy then
that's something Canonical can't fix.

You might be able to get around the problem in software however, by
trying a newer (or even an older) kernel.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1972790] Re: Can't connect to hotspot created on ubuntu

2023-02-01 Thread Serj Fomin
Unassigned

I see nobody give a about this bug! Ubuntu is garbage without such
important features as Hotspot. Back to Windows. The only adequate OS
unfortunately. I hope some day Ubuntu will be usefull, without countless
stupid bugs.

Title:
Can't connect to hotspot created on ubuntu

Status in wpa package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
We currently have older systems (18.04) with hotspot's and we will migrate to
22.04.
Anything work's fine, expect the hotspot.
The Hotspot will be created and is visible in the WLAN-List, but if the
security is set to "WPA & WPA2 Personal" we get the error message "Failed to
connect to the network".
If we change the Security to "WPA3 Personal" we get the error message
"Invalid Password", even if the password is correct.
As soon we remove the security (change it to "none"), we can connect with out
any problems.

We can reproduce it with a fresh installtion of the Ubuntu Server
22.04 and the following two commands:

  apt install network-manager

nmcli c add type wifi ifname wlp3s0 con-name Hotspot autoconnect yes
  ssid test-ap 802-11-wireless.mode ap 802-11-wireless.band bg
  802-11-wireless.mac-address "80:45:dd:f0:27:ba" wifi-sec.group ccmp
  wifi-sec.key-mgmt wpa-psk wifi-sec.pairwise ccmp wifi-sec.proto rsn
  wifi-sec.psk "test12345" ipv4.addresses 192.168.60.1/24 ipv4.method
shared && nmcli connection up Hotspot

We thought it could be similar to this issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1958267
Because if we test it with 20.04 it worked fine, because 20.04 uses the
Version 2:2.9.0-21build1 as described in the Ticket.

  As @Sebastian Bacher suggested
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1958267/comments/58), i
created a own report.
In the attachment is the requested log file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004469] Re: All programs crash on resume from suspend

2023-02-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Title:
All programs crash on resume from suspend

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I've posted in Ubuntuforums a while ago, however I've not received any
responses. For my entire posting, including info about hardware and
  software, see:

https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2482269=14127409=linear#post14127409

I've got a laptop which I'm fairly pleased with, however suspend
(closing the lid) doesn't work reliably, nor do leaving the machine
unattended. More often then not all applications shuts down, be it the
terminal or chrome. How do I solve this?

  Referring to the guide below:

  1)
  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 22.10
  Release: 22.10

  2)
I don't know which package this affects.

  3)
I expect to be able to enter my password and resume where I left off. I.e.
have all programs open, be it Chrome, Inkscape, Libre office or anything else.

  4) What happened instead
I need to do a full login and restart all apps which was running before I
closed the lid (or just left the computer open and running).

Please let me know which additional info is needed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003335] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 7.3.7 updates for jammy

2023-02-01 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Is there a way to make the the shortcut change only apply on layouts
where this is a problem? I think this is close enough to deliberately
introducing a regression (“my keyboard shortcut doesn't work anymore”)
that it's inappropriate for an SRU as-is.

The same problem happens if you spin up an OpenVPN server and kill it.
An yaml file will be created for the tun interface used by the server.

When creating an OpenVPN connection, a temporal connection called tunN
is created. For instance, after activating a connection called
  vpntest, I have:

  vpntest 458856e6-8f0f-4dc6-82f2-dd72868252a0 vpn ens3

  tun0 is created/removed after activating/deactivating vpntest and
should not really be saved, but I see netplan adding it in
/etc/netplan. And while doing so the plugin also reports some errors

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1999884] Re: gdm-smartcard not passing successful authentication to desktop at system logon

2023-02-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gdm3 - 43.0-3ubuntu1

---
gdm3 (43.0-3ubuntu1) lunar; urgency=medium

  [ Simon McVittie ]
  * d/tests: Don't reset root password.
Even if the root password is blank, we want to assert that
authentication still doesn't succeed, because we explicitly don't allow
smart card authentication as root.
  * d/tests: Explicitly use blank input when checking for blank password.
Otherwise we could block indefinitely when running tests that have an
interactive console available.

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * debian/tests/control: Add explicit dependency on libpam-sss.
Even though it could be an implicit one it's still what we're testing
  * debian/tests/sssd-gdm-smartcard-pam-auth-tester.sh: Some minor cleanups
  * debian/tests/control,
debian/tests/sssd-gdm-smartcard-pam-auth-tester-env.sh Manually use sudo
as ubuntu autopkgtest does not support needs-sudo yet
  * debian/gdm3.install: Do not list config files, just install all gdm3 ones
That's used as is in ubuntu (where we install more data and we use the
upstream `custom.conf` name for config file), so we don't have to diverge.
  * Merge with debian, remaining changes:
+ readme.debian: update for correct paths in ubuntu
+ control.in:
  - don't recommend desktop-base
  - depend on bash for config_error_dialog.patch
  - update vcs field
+ rules:
  - don't override default user/group
  - -dgdm-xsession=true to install upstream xsession script
  - override dh_installinit with --no-start to avoid session being killed
+ rules, readme.debian, gdm3.8.pod:
use upstream custom.conf instead of daemon.conf
+ gdm3.{postinst,postrm}: rename user and group back to gdm
+ debian/tests/control:
  - Use gdm user name
  - Use needs-root instead of needs-sudo (to remove when ubuntu autopkgtest
will be updated to include such feature)
+ debian/tests/sssd-gdm-smartcard-pam-auth-tester-env.sh:
  - Added to use needs-root autopkgtest instead of needs-sudo
+ gdm3.*.pam: make pam_env read ~/.pam_environment, as we use in g-c-c
  settings
+ gdm3.install:
  - don't install debian/xsession
+ add run_xsession.d.patch
+ add xresources_is_a_dir.patch
  - fix loading from /etc/x11/xresources/*
+ add nvidia_prime.patch:
  - add hook to run prime-offload (as root) and prime-switch if
nvidia-prime is installed
+ add revert_override_lang_with_accountservices.patch:
  - on ubuntu accountservices only stores the language and not the
full locale as needed by lang.
+ add dont_set_language_env.patch:
  - don't run the set_up_session_language() function, since it
overrides variable values set by ~/.pam_environment
+ add config_error_dialog.patch:
  - show warning dialog in case of error in ~/.profile etc. and

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004494] [NEW] libreoffice-calc using wayland: moving cells by Alt-Drag not working

2023-02-01 Thread Matthias Meier
Public bug reported:

Moving Lines or Colons without overwriting other Lines/Colons is
possible in Libreoffice Calc under Xorg by pressing the Alt Key during
Drag as described in following Table at Line "Alt Key":

https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/ro/text/scalc/guide/move_dragdrop.html

Unfortunately this does not worked on Wayland independent of the
Libreoffice or Wayland release: it always overwrites the destination
line as if no Alt Key were pressed.

It would be nice if there exist a Workaround eg. by another Meta-Keys.

  software, see:

https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2482269=14127409=linear#post14127409

Title:
  [BPO] libreoffice 7.4.4 for jammy

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Jammy:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.4.4 is in its forth bugfix release of the 7.4 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.4#7.4.4_release

   * This source packages matches the proposed SRU for kinetic handled at
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/2001911
and its backport is currently provided by the LibreOffice Fresh PPA at
   https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages

   * LibreOffice 7.3.7 (EOL since November 30, 2022) is currently
  released in jammy.

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Scope]

   * Backport of
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:7.4.4-0ubuntu0.22.10.1

   * Backport target is Jammy/22.04 LTS only to provide an official
build of a more recent upstream version of LibreOffice

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_74/1542/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
  * Automated tests

  * Regression tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
  * Feature tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
 Tested build at
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/14441833/+listing-archive-extra

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented
  by: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004480] [NEW] Can't authenticate to Office 365 with oauth

2023-02-01 Thread Francis
Public bug reported:

Upstream issue :https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1810760

Thunderbird blog post: https://blog.thunderbird.net/2023/01/important-
message-for-microsoft-office-365-enterprise-users/

They say they released a "second build" of version 102.7.1. This is the
version I have on Ubuntu 22.04 but I guess I have the "first build"
installed?

Could you backport the fix please?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1998263] Re: JPEG ( backing store not supported ) : many pictures won't open.

2023-02-01 Thread Marian Rainer-Harbach
I installed libgdk-pixbuf2.0-common (2.42.9+dfsg-1ubuntu1) and libgdk-
pixbuf-2.0-0 (2.42.9+dfsg-1ubuntu1) from the proposed repository on
22.10. I can confirm that I'm now able to open large images in eog that
I wasn't able to open before, so this looks good to me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2002290] Re: Poor Arabic rendering in VTE

2023-02-01 Thread M.Hanny Sabbagh
Thank you Gunnar for fixing the font issue in gnome terminal.

So now, we can say that bug 1 is fixed. The only thing that remains is
related to bug 2 and the RTL text auto-detection in VTE. I am yet to
hear from Egmont on anything we can do in this regard.

I hope we can find a solution to use the auto-detection feature by
default in VTE, so that the RTL issue gets fixed not just for Arabic but
for many other languages as well, and not just in GNOME Terminal but
basically in any terminal that uses VTE.

Happy to provide any tests or do any experiments you would like.

Best!

Title:
  Poor Arabic rendering in VTE

Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in vte2.91 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
VTE has a number of issues when it comes to rendering Arabic letters
in the terminal, which could affect a number of languages (Arabic,
  Urdu, Persian... etc).

Bug 1: Any Arabic word in any VTE-based terminal is choppily displayed
with spaces between its letters, making readability hard and sometimes
not possible. Sometimes the letters are crushed together very closely
  making reading impossible too.

Bug 2: If a non-Arabic text and an Arabic text are displayed together
in the same line, then the entire line will be missed up and you won't
be able to understand what is being said.

Both of these bugs can be seen from the image I attached.

I reported both of these bugs together because it's unlikely they can
be fixed separately, probably they are related to each other.

Problem can be seen in any VTE-based terminal. Here I am using GNOME
Terminal 3.44.0 on Ubuntu 22.04, but it can be seen in any Ubuntu
version and in any terminal version as well (it has been there since
  forever).

I reported the bug here instead of upstream because that's what they
  said at the page: https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Terminal/ReportingBugs,
but this bug is not related to Ubuntu only; it happens on all Linux
  distributions.

Happy to provide any information you need, or any do tests or
  experiments.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1095498

Title:
Printing PDFs with images is hideously slow on HP LaserJet 3030 MFP

Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Printing anything with graphics from Firefix (such as a Google Maps
page), or a PDF file containing graphics, takes a ridiculously long
time to print, often several minutes per page. This is with a
directly-attached USB postscript printer (an HP 3030 mfp).

The exact same content prints in only 2 seconds when printed from
Windows 7 running in a VM, to the same printer via an independent
print server (avoiding CUPS in the Ubuntu host).

NOTE: If the page in Firefox is first printed "to file" and PDF is
selected, the very long delay happens when printing the resulting PDF
using the "lpr" command. If, instead, "print to file" is done from
Firefox and Postscript is selected, the resulting .ps file prints much
faster (still 10x slower than printing from Windows 7, but much faster
  than printing the equivalent PDF).

So there must be something bogus in how CUPS handles PDF files
  containging images.

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Visit https://maps.google.com/ in Firefox on Ubuntu
  2. Search for "San Francisco" and click the print icon (in the left bar near
the top).
  3. A printable map is displayed; hit ^P to print it to a postscript printer
(1-2 minute delay before the page prints)

Do exactly the same on a Windows 7 system and printing starts in about
  2 seconds.

Alternatively, try printing the attached PDF and PS files. The PDF is
hideously slow (minutes), but the PS is only slow (about 10 seconds
to print on my system).Compared to 2 seconds when printed from
  Windows. All the same content.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2003335] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 7.3.7 updates for jammy

2023-02-01 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Hey Chris, thank you for reviewing.

Yes, ubuntu-0001-tdf-150682-Change-shortcut-of-inserting-Math-
objects.patch is a behavior change, but "CTRL+ALT+=" is not working at
all on many keyboard layouts while "=" requires an additional modifier
by itself. This is not restricted to Windows platform, but very well
concerns Ubuntu users too. Please see the commit message for additional
information (This is change present in libreoffice 7.4+)

I believe that ubuntu-0005-make-ValueTransfer-easier-to-understand.patch
is follow-up clean-up patch which indeed is not meant to add actual
changes. Still picking it up seems appropriate while it got written and
tested together with ubuntu-0003-Fix-bug-in-copying-table-where-we-need-
to-create-a-p.patch and ubuntu-0004-error-when-copying-table-and-the-
copy-table-wizard-c.patch.

Title:
[SRU] libreoffice 7.3.7 updates for jammy

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Jammy:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.3.7 of the 7.3 is EOL since November 30, 2022
       https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.3

   * Cherry-picked patches mostly based on
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?h=distro/mimo/mimo-7-3
  * Switch default currency HRK Croatian Kuna to EUR Euro (tdf#150011)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=150011
  * Fix bug in copying table where we need to create a primary key
  * Don’t set language to none on defined styles (tdf#126657, tdf#145104)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126657
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145104
  * Change shortcut of inserting Math objects to Alt+Shift+E (tdf#150682)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=150682

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_73/2020/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
  * Automated tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
  * Automated UI tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
  * Regression tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
  * Feature tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
Tested build can be found at
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/14441847/+listing-archive-extra

  * [amd64]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-ricotz-ppa/jammy/amd64/libr/libreoffice/20230118_041112_1de9d@/log.gz

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-ricotz-ppa/jammy/arm64/libr/libreoffice/20230117_123847_1a3af@/log.gz
  * [armhf]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-ricotz-ppa/jammy/armhf/libr/libreoffice/20230117_105914_aa586@/log.gz
  * [ppc64el]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-ricotz-ppa/jammy/ppc64el/libr/libreoffice/20230117_111546_c7e43@/log.gz
  * [s390x]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-ricotz-ppa/jammy/s390x/libr/libreoffice/20230117_150924_08154@/log.gz
   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004257] Re: VNC no longer supported

2023-02-01 Thread Noel Grandin
All the other "remote desktop" related issues seem to be logged against
vino, and I could not find a gnome-remote-desktop package in launchpad.

(Vino used to be the default client/server for VNC in Ubuntu & Gnome)
