2024-01-17 Thread Bagus Tris
I tried daily build version 2024-01-17, but the bug is still there.
Laptop is Fujitsu WUA/H1. The solution is to restart subiquity snap
service.

Thanks for the bug report. It looks like the i915 kernel graphics driver

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2049665] Re: A recent Ubuntu update broke GPU processing in Folding@Home (nVidia GPU)

2024-01-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. It appears you no longer have an nvidia
kernel driver for the current kernel version. I'm also not sure if such
a newer kernel can be supported by the old nvidia 390 driver.

This might just be bug 1975650 so please try reinstalling the driver
using the 'Additional Drivers' app or:

  sudo apt install --reinstall nvidia-driver-390

and reboot. If reinstalling the driver doesn't solve the problem then I
wonder if nvidia-390 requires sticking to an older kernel?

A recent Ubuntu update is keeping the GPU software of Folding at Home
(Folding@Home) from working. Past updates have not interfered with
  it.

  Expected result:
An updated nvidia (proprietary) driver would be installed with the update
that continues to work smoothly, provides OpenCL, etc.

  Actual result:
The update caused FAH to disable its GPU processing capabilities. OpenCL is
mentioned in the error message, so there may be something wrong with the OpenCL
installation in the nVidia v390 package.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2049712] [NEW] Acer Switch Alpha 12: Keyboard does not wake after suspend

2024-01-17 Thread Kenneth Hanson
Public bug reported:

This is a tablet computer with a detachable keyboard and touchpad. When
I close and open the lid, the computer goes to sleep and wakes up as
expected, but the entire keyboard portion does not. The backlight stays
off, and keys and touchpad are unresponsive. Removing and reattaching
the keyboard is the only way to fix the problem.

This problem has been present as long as I've had the tablet (2022),
with queries on the web going back to when the computer was released
(2016). However, I can't find a bug report, so I'm posting one now.

Perhaps related: if I try to sleep via the DE (KDE Plasma), command
line, or power button, the computer fails to go to sleep. The screen
turns back on with the lock screen, and the keyboard backlight does not
go off.

Release: Kubuntu 23.10
Package version: 1.4.1.19

** Affects: pm-utils (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Thanks for the bug report. I've watched the attached screencast a few
times and can't see any artifacts in it. This is unsurprising given how
screen recording works. You will probably need to take a video of the
screen externally, like with a phone.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2049697] [NEW] GPU not being detected when I try to run any game

2024-01-17 Thread Justin Klassen
Public bug reported:

I ran ran apport-bug xorg and it took me here. Trying to figure out an
issue where any time I open a game, it crashes and gives the error
message "GPU not detected". From everything I've tried it seems like the
computer has no problem detecting the GPU and it seems to be working
fine, but games are still not working. Any help is appreciated!

Status in rustc package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The next chromium version is making rustc mandatory to build. Chromium
is a snap built from core22 so using the jammy packages, the build is
currently failing because it needs libprofiler_builtins.rlib which
  isn't available.

Upstream provides toolchain builds that can be used but only for amd64 so
currently the snap is failing to build on arm
  https://launchpad.net/~chromium-team/+snap/chromium-snap-from-source-beta

The version upstream is using is 1.75 but it's possible that a lower
version would be enough for now if libprofiler was enabled

   * Backport target is Jammy/22.04 LTS releases to provide an official
build of a more recent upstream version of LibreOffice

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_75/1776/

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented
  by: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2049672] [NEW] Should welcome screen be included?

2024-01-17 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with gnome-initial-setup 46 Alpha shows these screens:

Help improve Ubuntu
Privacy (Location Services)
Done (You can use App Center to install apps)

This is a change from Ubuntu 23.10 where the first screen was Online
Accounts. See LP: #2049513

Would it be useful to add an intro screen instead of immediately asking
for permission to send data?

GNOME Initial Setup has a page available. We may want to adjust the
wording though since there is no "making an account" for existing users
especially now that Online Accounts is no longer integrated here.

Title:
  Should welcome screen be included?

Status in gnome-initial-setup package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with gnome-initial-setup 46 Alpha shows these
  screens:

  Help improve Ubuntu
  Privacy (Location Services)
Done (You can use App Center to install apps)

This is a change from Ubuntu 23.10 where the first screen was Online
  Accounts. See LP: #2049513

Would it be useful to add an intro screen instead of immediately
asking for permission to send data?

GNOME Initial Setup has a page available. We may want to adjust the
wording though since there is no "making an account" for existing
users especially now that Online Accounts is no longer integrated
  here. Screenshot attached.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2037604] Re: Backport packages for 22.04.4 HWE stack

2024-01-17 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Any testing is helpful, thanks!

I've now ran tests on Intel DG2/Arc, and things work fine at least on
6.5 kernel. 6.1 (OEM) fails to start gdm/X with a trace from the DRI
driver, need to investigate if that's a regression or not.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
The graphics HWE stack from mantic needs to be backported for 22.04.4

  directx-headers
  - build-dep of the new Mesa

  mesa
  - new major release (23.2.x)
  - new HW support, Meteor Lake..

  [Test case]
We want to cover at least 2-3 different, widely used and already previously
supported GPU generations from both AMD and Intel which are supported by this
release, as those are the ones that cover most bases; nouveau users tend to
switch to the NVIDIA blob after installation. No need to test ancient GPU's
supported by mesa-amber. And best to focus on the newer generations (~5y and
newer) as the older ones are less likely to break at this point.
  - AMD: Vega, Navi1x (RX5000*), Navi2x (RX6000*), Navi3x (RX7000*)
  - Intel: gen9 (SKL/APL/KBL/CFL/WHL/CML), gen11 (ICL), gen12 (TGL/RKL/RPL/DG2)

Install the new packages and run some tests:
  - check that the desktop is still using hw acceleration and hasn't fallen
back to swrast/llvmpipe
  - run freely available benchmarks that torture the GPU (Unigine
Heaven/Valley/Superposition)
  - run some games from Steam if possible

and in each case check that there is no gfx corruption happening or
  worse.

Note that upstream releases have already been tested for OpenGL and
  Vulkan conformance by their CI.

  [Where things could go wrong]
This is a major update of Mesa, there could be regressions but we'll try to
catch any with testing. And since it shares bugs with mantic, we'd already know
if there are serious issues. We will backport the final 23.2.x at a later
stage, the first backport is needed for enabling Intel Meteor Lake.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2049670] [NEW] noble: gnome-initial-setup 20 second delay & error popup

2024-01-17 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Public bug reported:

When GNOME Initial Setup is run in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (the current
development release), when clicking Next on the "Help improve Ubuntu"
screen, the Initial Setup pauses for 20 seconds then shows a popup
dialog (screenshot attached).

This happens regardless of whether Yes or No is chosen on that screen.

Sometimes, the app might go to the next screen and close the popup
dialog itself.

Logs

GNOME Initial Setup can be run from the command line by running
/usr/libexec/gnome-initial-setup --existing-user

When run from the command line, these warnings are emitted:

InitialSetup-Message: Starting gnome-initial-setup
InitialSetup-Message: Production mode: changes will be saved to disk
INFO[0003] no DCD information: couldn't open /var/lib/ubuntu_dist_channel: open
/var/lib/ubuntu_dist_channel: no such file or directory

(Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers)
INFO[0107] no DCD information: couldn't open /var/lib/ubuntu_dist_channel: open

Logs 2
==
If No is selected, the command-line warning is slightly different.

Perhaps the metrics server is not set up for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS yet?

This bug is related to bug 1761742 and I agree with comment #3 there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1980889] Re: X crashes with qxl(0): error doing QXL_ALLOC

2024-01-17 Thread minphr
This is affecting me as well. The Xorg stack trace is nearly identical
in my case.

I am using Kubuntu 23.10 as Host and 22.04 LTS as guest.
It is quite annoying as I use the VM for work and this kind of crash happens
randomly sometimes 5 times per day.

I noticed it happens every time when I either start typing text or click
something inside the Guest. If the thing I clicked was a text field, the
mouse pointer is stuck as the "I" symbol but I can still move it around
for a few seconds until Xorg dies completely.

I use the VM in a multi-monitor setup with 3 screens.

This is my Video QXL config:

I used the exact same configuration and Guest VM on my "old" pc, that
was running Kubuntu 22.04 LTS as host as well as guest, and I never had
this problem there.

My current pc has an integrated AMD Radeon 780m (does not matter if I used
AMD's drivers or default ones) and the previous one has integrated Intel Xe G7
80EUs.
All my software is regularly updated to latest available versions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2048388] Re: Test suite often fails with "systemd units changed without reload" on s390x

2024-01-17 Thread Olivier Gayot
After further analysis, it looks like the trigger=wpa/2:2.10-21 highly
increases the likeliness of the error to occur.

At this point, I do not think that there is any regression in wpa
2:2.10-21 compared to 2:2.10-20. The changeset is minimal. OTOH I think
the trigger=wpa/... alters the order of events and somehow consequently
makes the race condition more likely to occur.

FWIW, with a trigger=wpa/..., wpasupplicant gets upgraded before running
the ethernets test:

 96s Unpacking wpasupplicant (2:2.10-21) over (2:2.10-20) ...

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-noble-ogayot-noble-
proposed//noble/s390x/n/netplan.io/20240109_171235_03058@/log.gz

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2049630] [NEW] [LE-Beats Studio Pro tilhørende j, playback] Playback problem

2024-01-17 Thread Jan Ulrich Thomsen

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2049510] Re: nautilus randomly crashes

2024-01-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.
