I was already leaning that way and thank you for adding the data.
I agree to not to preseed any snap (in images where no mandatory snaps are
present, i.e. not those agent examples you brought up above - these would stay
as is right?).

  Always preseed core and snapd snap in server seed

Bug description:
  In removing the LXD snap from preseeding in the server seed for Ubuntu
  24.04 as part LP #2051346 [1] we also removed the snapd snap and the
  core22 snap.

  This means that are subsequent snap install, like LXD, will take much
  longer than expected for a non minimized image.

  Time taken to install LXD snap using the lxd-installer package without
  snapd and core22 preinstalled/seeded

  ```
  ubuntu@cloudimg:~$ time sudo lxd --version
  Installing LXD snap, please be patient.
  5.19
  real  0m29.107s
  user  0m0.006s
  sys   0m0.005s
  ```

  Time taken to install LXD snap using the lxd-installer package with
  snapd and core22 already installed.

  ```
  ubuntu@cloudimg:~$ time sudo lxd --version
  Installing LXD snap, please be patient.
  5.19
  real  0m15.034s
  user  0m0.005s
  sys   0m0.005s
  ```

  This is a significant difference and for a workload we intend to
  remain as a core tested and tracked workload. As such I propose we re-
  introduce core22 and snapd snaps to our seed.

  LXD do intend to move to the core24 snap as their base as I'm sure
  snapd does too so when that does happen we need to update the
  preseeded core snap.

  This bug is to track the work of making that change in the server seed

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054212] Re: System starts, but monitor on HDMI has no signal

2024-02-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Can you test some other desktop environment like GNOME? And try Wayland?

At the moment all I can see is that Xorg thinks both monitors are
working. So the bug may be Xorg, the amdgpu Xorg driver, XFCE, or the
kernel.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu (Ubuntu)

Bug description:
  I have been running with kernel 6.2 without any problems.

  However, when the system upgraded to kernel 6.5, the system boots, but the
monitor connected via HDMI has no signal.
  The system seems to think everything is OK, there are no errors in the Xorg
log, xrandr shows both displays, so does inxi -Fxxxrz.

  Both monitors are connected via the AMD Radeon RX 6600 graphics card, the LG
using DisplayPort, the Benq using HDMI.
  The Benq monitor will show "No Signal Detected" when the system boots and I
log into the desktop. The LG monitor shows the correct display. The Display app
will show both monitors as present, it's just that nothing is actually sent via
the cable to the monitor. So the monitor doesn't get any signal.

  If I connect the Benq via DisplayPort and the LG via HDMI, then the LG
  shows "No Signal Detected".

  Comparing the Xorg.0.log files from using kernel 6.2 and 6.5, I don't
  see any errors or indications why the HDMI output isn't sending data.

  I've attached a tar.gz file with the 6.2 and 6.5 kernel results for
  the Xorg.0.log, the output of "inxi -Fxxxrz" and "xrandr -q".

  My current work around is to boot into kernel 6.2, but I would like to
  see the new kernel functioning properly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054181] Re: Monitor Not Detected when Connected to Belkin Docking Station via DisplayPort on Ubuntu

2024-02-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I wonder if the Belkin docking station has enough bandwidth to drive
multiple monitors simultaneously. Have you tried unplugging everything
from the dock and just plugging in a monitor to the DisplayPort alone?

Also next time the bug occurs, please run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054149] Re: Super+2 shortcut gets captured by windows since 23.10 (AZERTY keyboard)

2024-02-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please run:

  gnome-extensions list --enabled

to see what extensions might be active, and paste the resulting output
here.

Title:
  Super+2 shortcut gets captured by windows since 23.10 (AZERTY
  keyboard)

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have Ubuntu 23.10 with mutter 45.2-0ubuntu3. I have an AZERTY
  keyboard.

  In order to switch to another application, I use Super+num (switch to
application number 'num' in my dock).
  Since last update (Ubuntu 23.10), when the keyboard is captured by the
current window, I cannot move to application 2 with Super+2
  Instead, it writes a 'é' (this is the number 2 key on a US English keyboard).
  I have the same problem with Super+7 (è in AZERTY keyboard), but all other
Super+num works fine.

  This behavior occurs only when I am on a window capturing my keyboard.
  Example:
  - If I am reading a PDF with Evince (keyboard is not captured for writing),
everything works perfectly.
  - If I am writing something on Firefox/gnome-terminal, keyboards write 'é'
whenever I press Super+2, and cannot move to the wanted application.
  - On some other applications, everything works fine (Emacs for example, even
when keyboard is captured for writing).

  I think this bug is related with bug #2035076, and so with mutter.
  Indeed, I had the same capitalization problem with the same apps than in this
bug (i.e. not working with Firefox and gnome-terminal but working with
perfectly with Emacs).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054121] Re: Random Freezing

2024-02-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. I can't yet see any cause for the freezes.
Next time it happens please:

1. Note the exact time and date of the freeze.

2. Reboot.

3. Run: journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

4. Attach the resulting text file here along with a note telling us the
exact time and date of the freeze.

5. Check /var/crash for crash files.

Bug description:
  [Summary]
  When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test
com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record
the sound and playback.
  It seems this device cannot switch to Hand free mode in this platform.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  Connect the ThinkPluse xt99, use the Handfree mode, then try to record some
voice.

  [Expected result]
  The bluetooth headset ThinkPluse xt99 can use as a MIC to input sound.

  [Actual result]
  The bluetooth headset xt99 cannot work in the Handfree mode.

  [Failure rate]
  100%

  [Impact]
  With the current Ubuntu 22.04 oem image, we try to connect the LENOVO
  XT99 bt headset and let it work in HFP mode, we select HFP profile
  from gnome sound-setting, but the microphone will not auto change to
  bt microphone and the bt output could not work too. So this BT headset
  could only work in A2DP mode with the current 22.04 OEM image.

  And we tried ubuntu 22.04 generic image, mantic image and noble image,
  none of them could make the headset work in HFP mode.

  [Fix]
  Cherry-pick a pulseaudio commit from upstream.

  [Test]
  Install the patched pulseaudio and reboot, connect to the LENOVO XT99
  bt headset, select it to work in HFP mode, tested playback and capture,
  all worked well.

  [Where problems could occur]
  This change will impact bt headset negotiation process in the pulseaudio,
  so the possiblity of regression is limited to bt headset, it could make
  the bt headset fail to connect, but this possibility is very low, we tested
  the patch with different bt headset and bt speaker, all worked well.

And Iasrequest a CVE ID, but do not get answer for this moment. If you

Title:
  There is a heap buffer overflow in texlive-bin

Status in texlive-bin package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hello,
I found a heap-buffer overflow in function ttfLoadHDMX; ttfdump can install
by apt-get texlive-binaries. I compile lastest texlive-source by clone
https://github.com/TeX-Live/texlive-source/ on unbuntu for debugging.
The overflow content and size are controlled by input. Exploiting this
issue can achive any code excuted

The steps for reproducing the vul on unbuntu:
(1) sudo apt-get iunstall texlive-binaries
(2) ttfdump -i poc.ttf

  The poc.ttf can view the attachment .ttfdump aborted and prompt "malloc():
corrupted top size" due memory corrupt.

The issue exist in function ttfLoadHDMX :

  /***function ttfLoadHDMX begin   ***/

  static void ttfLoadHDMX (FILE *fp,HDMXPtr hdmx,ULONG offset)
  {
  int i;

  xfseek(fp, offset, SEEK_SET, "ttfLoadHDMX");

  hdmx->version = ttfGetUSHORT(fp);
  hdmx->numDevices = ttfGetUSHORT(fp);
  hdmx->size = ttfGetLONG(fp);

  hdmx->Records = XCALLOC (hdmx->numDevices, DeviceRecord);

  for (i=0;inumDevices;i++)
{
hdmx->Records[i].PixelSize = ttfGetBYTE(fp);
hdmx->Records[i].MaxWidth = ttfGetBYTE(fp);
hdmx->Records[i].Width = XCALLOC (hdmx->size, BYTE);  (1)
fread ((hdmx->Records+i)->Width, sizeof(BYTE),
hdmx->numGlyphs+1,fp); (2)
}
  }

  /***function ttfLoadHDMX end   ***/

"fail" is being generated.

  Power settings have no effect and offer nonexisting options

Status in power-profiles-daemon package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  The "power" area of the settings offer three options:

  powersave, balanced, and performance.

  As per cpufreq-info "balanced" is not a valid option.

  Also changing to any of the two really existing options does not
  change cpu frequency in a visible way.

  Maybe there is a connection between this and the bug i reported about
  the matching indicator:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-
  cpufreq/+bug/1977659

  I *can* actually switch between the values using the studio-controls
  application. changing values there leads to visible changes in
  cpufreq-info output and /proc/cpuinfo data shown.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054223] [NEW] pipewire missing lv2 support

2024-02-18 Thread lemmy
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I found an issue with ubuntu pipewire pkgs. Basically we use pipewire
filterchain pluging to add DSP filters for Macbook pro 16 speakers in order to
make the speakers sound properly. To do this we have been using debian backport
pipewire pkgs. Unfortunately when we try use Ubuntu pkgs, pipewire crashed due
unable to find lv2 plug-ins required for DSP effects. I'm wondering in Ubuntu
pkgs are not compiled with lv2 library support. It would great to solve this
issue allow us use native Ubuntu pkgs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054111] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 7.6.5 for mantic

2024-02-18 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.6.5 is in its fifth bugfix release of the 7.6 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.6#7.6.5_release

   * Version 7.6.2 is currently released in mantic. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.6.4 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.6.5
(that's a total of ? bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.6.5/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.6.5/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

   7.6.5 RC1 is identical to the 7.6.5 release

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
  the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
  minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_76/1816/

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of ? bug fixes always carries the
  potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
  release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
  above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
  in.

Bug description:
  openjdk-8 402 fails to install in focal, jammy, mantic on i386 due to
  dependency on java-atk-bridge.

  This dependency was introduced by dropping condition present in 392:
  --
    ifeq ($(derivative),Ubuntu)
  ifeq ($(DEB_HOST_ARCH),i386)
    ifeq (,$(filter $(distrel),precise trusty xenial bionic))
  with_bridge =
    endif
  endif
    endif
  --

  Note:
   java-atk-wrapper is present in noble on i386

  This is a regression introduced in 8u402-ga-2:

    * Restore M-A installability of focal/i386 package (LP#1916327)
  by adding xenial, bionic, focal, jammy to the list of releases
  built with the ATK bridge, but not enabling it by default;
  keep jessie on, stretch and sid and mantic/noble off the list:
  please report bugs for issues with the bridge, so sthibault
  can find, debug, fix them

  See LP: #1916327

  The alternative is to publish atk-wrapper for i386 in mantic, jammy
  and focal.

  Options:
   a) rollback the fix in Ubuntu
   b) publish atk-wrapper

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054100] Re: Can't upgrade keyboard-configuration on Noble

2024-02-18 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
>Yes, I have proposed enabled.

I assume you are aware it's not generally recommended to keep proposed
enabled and install all upgrades. Anyways, that means this is the same
issue which is keeping xkeyboard-config from migrating to the release
repo.

Regarding comma or pipe, I cannot say for certain because I'm not that
familiar with this package but it might be on purpose. Some packages do
it to lock their dependencies in place. This is especially true if the
underlying package do large changes so you cannot be sure if everything
still works with newer versions or if you need to know what the changes
are to take full advantage of the new things. This means that 2.38.1,
2.38.2 or security fixes will still match and be installable but never
versions like 2.39 would be blocked. Maybe all console-setup needs is a
manual rebuild to pick up the current version available or it might
require further changes to the package to handle the newer changes.

The way forward will probably be a newer version of console-setup which
supports the latest version, when that is uploaded to -proposed both
packages will work and can be migrated together. In the meantime,
xkeyboard-config will be kept in -proposed in order to not make other
packages uninstallable.

** Summary changed:

- Can't upgrade keyboard-configuration on Noble

Bug description:
  I'm testing Noble using multipass and I got this error when I try to upgrade
the system:
  ubuntu@ubuntu2404:~$ sudo apt full-upgrade
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree... Done
  Reading state information... Done
  Calculating upgrade... Error!
  Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
  requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
  distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
  or been moved out of Incoming.
  The following information may help to resolve the situation:

  The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   keyboard-configuration : Depends: xkb-data (< 2.38A) but 2.41-2 is to be
installed
  E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.

  I think because in the package "Depends" section the configuration is in this
way:
  Depends: debconf (>= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, liblocale-gettext-perl, xkb-data (>=
2.38~), xkb-data (<< 2.38A)

  So I think it should be a "|"(pipe) instead of "," (comma) when
  refering to xkb-data.

  The keyboard-configuration package version is 1.223ubuntu1.
