[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051068] Re: GUI crashed after installed proposed package libegl-mesa0
** Information type changed from Public to Public Security -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051068 Title: GUI crashed after installed proposed package libegl-mesa0 Status in linux-oem-6.1 package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux-oem-6.1 source package in Jammy: Won't Fix Status in mesa source package in Jammy: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] OEM-6.1 kernel is missing support for minimum page size of 64k on DG2 (gfx12.5). Mesa 23.2 started using that, so it broke initializing the gpu on boot, causing a blank screen with no GDM running (with wayland, and fallback to X failed too). [Fix] Revert the commit that allows using 64k page size, since that's what the current version in jammy-updates is using. OEM-6.1 kernel is going away, no need to patch that anymore. No other kernel is affected, >6.2 works fine and thus this revert is not necessary in mantic or noble. [Test case] Install the update, boot up a machine with DG2 (iGPU or dGPU, doesn't matter). The login screen should appear. [Where things could go wrong] Hard to see how this could regress anything, as it just restores the limits for intel gfx12.5 as they were in the current mesa version in jammy. --- [Summary] After installed proposed package libegl-mesa0, reboot system. GUI crashed but still able to access system by ssh. [Steps to reproduce] 1. Boot into OS 2. sudo apt update 3. sudo apt upgrade 4. After upgrade process finished, reboot system. 5. GUI crashed. [Expected result] GUI displayed normally [Actual result] GUI crashed [Failure rate] 100% Tester comments --- if we don't upgrade libegl-mesa0, GUI will be fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1779890] Re: gvfsd process does not have the KRB5CCNAME environment set
This bug was fixed in the package tracker-miners - 2.3.3-2ubuntu0.20.04.2 --- tracker-miners (2.3.3-2ubuntu0.20.04.2) focal; urgency=medium * Change tracker-miner-[fs,rss].service to start upon gnome-session.target instead of default.target. default.target was too early, leading gvfs to be started too early, which led to gvfs not collecting systemd user session environment variables, notably KRB5CCNAME. Remove install section from tracker-extract.service to prevent it from being enabled by systemd. It is a helper service that should be managed by tracker-miner-fs.service, not systemd.(LP: #1779890) - d/p/lp-1779890-1-move-the-install-section-to-the-systemd-service-fil.patch - d/p/lp-1779890-2-miners-opt-out-of-systemd-XDG-autostart-integration.patch - d/p/lp-1779890-3-miners-tie-systemd-startup-to-gnome-session.patch - d/p/lp-1779890-4-miners-fix-after-usage-in-systemd-service-files.patch - d/p/lp-1779890-5-remove-install-section-from-tracker-extract-service.patch - d/tracker-extract.postinst - d/tracker-miner-fs.postinst -- Matthew Ruffell Tue, 13 Jun 2023 11:09:44 +1200 ** Changed in: tracker-miners (Ubuntu Focal) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to tracker-miners in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779890 Title: gvfsd process does not have the KRB5CCNAME environment set Status in tracker-miners package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in tracker-miners source package in Bionic: Won't Fix Status in tracker-miners source package in Focal: Fix Released Status in tracker-miners source package in Jammy: Fix Released Status in tracker-miners source package in Lunar: Won't Fix Status in tracker-miners source package in Mantic: Fix Released Bug description: [ Impact ] The KRB5CCNAME environment variable points to the Kerberos ticket of the current machine and this ticket is used for authentication in Active Directory servers. This variable is set by pam_sss when the user authenticates and can be used by other processes, such as gio, to skip the credentials input when accessing network shares, for example. Some services rely on gvfs-daemon in order to properly function, such as tracker-extract-3.service and tracker-miner-fs-3.service, which means they will ask for the gvfs-daemon to be initialized when they are executed by systemd. This creates problems if one service that relies on gvfsd is started too early, as it would result in gvfsd being started too early as well. As of version 3.1 of tracker-miners, the install target of tracker- miners-fs-3.service was set to gnome-session.target: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/tracker-miners/-/merge_requests/283 However, the tracker-extract-3.service was not updated and its target is still default.target, which is too early for the service to start. Starting tracker-extract too early is also starting gvfsd too early, before the session environment gets fully updated. Which means that gvfsd does not have the KRB5CCNAME variable and can not do any operations with it. Tracker-extract is supposed to be a helper service managed by tracker- miner-fs-3.service. By using a [Install] section, we are actually telling systemd that it should manage this service as well, when it shouldn't. So, by removing the [Install] section and having tracker-miner- fs-3.service being tied to gnome-session.target, we fix the issue of gvfsd starting too early without the updated session environment. [ Test Plan ] In order to test this issue, it's required to have an Active Directory server running. 1) Authenticate with an AD user (as this would set the KRB5CCNAME env); 2) Check gvfsd environment. This can be done by running: cat /proc/$(pidof gvfsd)/environ | xargs --null -n1 You will be able to see that it does not have the variable listed. 3) Check that the information mentioned above about tracker-miner-fs- 3.service is true. 4) Disable tracker-extract-3.service (This is a bit tricky, since its target was default.target. The easiest way is to remove the symlink that systemd created when enabling the unit, located under /etc/systemd/user/default.target.wants/tracker-extract-3.service 5) Reboot the machine; 6) Repeat steps 1 and 2. This will show that gvfsd is now started with the proper environment. Is not enough to look at ptree and the pids of the processes, instead it's better to look into the session logs with: journalctl --user -b And check the order in which the services were started and when they were triggered. Test packages are available in the following ppa: https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf320070-test After installing test packages of tracker-miners, KRB5CCNAME should be set in gvfs environment upon login to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056209] Re: Incorrect Info In About Section
In Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, the "GNOME" version comes from the version of gnome-desktop3, not the version of gnome-shell. At this point, we are very unlikely to update gnome-desktop3 for that minor issue. Similarly, we aren't going to update a 4 year old Ubuntu release to adjust how RAM is reported in gnome-control-center. The difference you noticed might be seen if your system has integrated graphics (like with Intel) and some of the RAM is used by the graphics card. I am closing this bug since there is no action we will take here and the issues are minor. If you still experience this or similar issues on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or the development version of Ubuntu, please open a new bug. Also, please open one bug per issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2055176] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGSEGV
I installed the debug symbols in the above and experienced the crash. Ran the crash (failed but got the whoopsie id) https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/48154af52a1ad74595dfd1a394e65ff5fc7131d588778dc4bacd36325d293f6280e12259a3c48ad31b56c7000ec68175ffe156d9c52de8bf78aaeb00eed11c0b I have deterministically recreate the bug/crash. It occurs when quickly switching to the VMWare Horizon client. For instance a quick alt-tab to the client. Or the other way is to have the VMWare horizon client as the 'next' window, such that closing/killing the current window will quickly switch to the horizon client will crash the horizon client and some other apps (predominantly the snap of Spotify which I have running or the deb install of Zoom). ** Attachment added: "prevjournal.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xwayland/+bug/2055176/+attachment/5752926/+files/prevjournal.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xwayland in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055176 Title: Xwayland crashed with SIGSEGV Status in xwayland package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When using VMWare Horizon and quickly switching windows (alt-tab), the Horizon app and other apps crashes (such as spotify (snap?) and zoom (native deb)). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1996946] Re: Memory leak on every frame when reading GIF animations
** Changed in: gdk-pixbuf (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gdk-pixbuf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1996946 Title: Memory leak on every frame when reading GIF animations Status in gdk-pixbuf package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: There is a big memory leak when reading GIF animations. The issue was identified and fixed in gdk-pixbuf two (2) years ago, but it was released in a version grater that the available in Ubuntu 20.04. At first glance, the leak appears only when a static image is requested, but this function is used by pixbuf's upload functions and calls this function internally. So the leak happens every time a GIF is loaded. Here is the commit with the fix released in version 2.41: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdk- pixbuf/-/commit/dd3aa9ed64a0a370c8150f98e849ffc6e73da827 A patch is attached to this message. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051895] Re: Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile
OK, will find more bt audio devices to do the test. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051895 Title: Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile Status in HWE Next: New Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in pulseaudio source package in Jammy: Incomplete Status in pulseaudio source package in Mantic: Incomplete Status in pulseaudio source package in Noble: Fix Committed Bug description: [Summary] When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record the sound and playback. It seems this device cannot switch to Hand free mode in this platform. [Steps to reproduce] Connect the ThinkPluse xt99, use the Handfree mode, then try to record some voice. [Expected result] The bluetooth headset ThinkPluse xt99 can use as a MIC to input sound. [Actual result] The bluetooth headset xt99 cannot work in the Handfree mode. [Failure rate] 100% [Impact] With the current Ubuntu 22.04 oem image, we try to connect the LENOVO XT99 bt headset and let it work in HFP mode, we select HFP profile from gnome sound-setting, but the microphone will not auto change to bt microphone and the bt output could not work too. So this BT headset could only work in A2DP mode with the current 22.04 OEM image. And we tried ubuntu 22.04 generic image, mantic image and noble image, none of them could make the headset work in HFP mode. [Fix] Cherry-pick a pulseaudio commit from upstream. [Test] Install the patched pulseaudio and reboot, connect to the LENOVO XT99 bt headset, select it to work in HFP mode, tested playback and capture, all worked well. [Where problems could occur] This change will impact bt headset negotiation process in the pulseaudio, so the possiblity of regression is limited to bt headset, it could make the bt headset fail to connect, but this possibility is very low, we tested the patch with different bt headset and bt speaker, all worked well.
