[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1965123] Re: Rounded corners are missing (square indents instead)

2024-03-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The dock fix isn't actually a fix, it's just a workaround:
https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/commit/46b81aeb4bf18d2f8a75fbf2d0ef6c047f3711f2

I expect that if we can get a proper fix into gnome-shell then the
workaround can be removed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1930914] Re: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2024-03-11 Thread mkoniecz
This is just malicious. You are not only packacking Ubuntu as adware,
you are making it deliberately harder to unbreak for people interested
specifically in spam removal.

While Ubuntu with easily removed ads would be still adware it would be
at least less annoying for people wishing to fix it.

And here you make deliberately harder to remove ads, despite that it
would already requires tinkering not done by vast majority of people.

I get ads on every single SSH login, that is incredibly spammy.
Currently for me that is majority of ad consumption and I will get rid
of it even if it means migration of several servers I am managing to a
different OS.

2024-03-11 Thread Carlos H Simoes
Yes.

I reproduced it exactly here to validate, when trying to close an APP by
clicking on the dock, when closing, the session was immediately logged
out.

A few days ago, I tried to disable Waylan, but the problems seem to
recur more often. But it happens anyway.

In some cases, for example, if you try to just block the current
session, it also generates behavior.

Below is the result of journalctl attached to this.

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056434] Re: Thunderbird profile not migrated to snap

2024-03-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The issue there is that the stable snap is missing a change which is in
the beta channel to allow read access to ~/.thunderbird (snap blocks
access to hidden directories by default).

I've pushed a fix to the vcs now
https://git.launchpad.net/~desktop-snappers/thunderbird/+git/snap/commit/?id=0fcac123

a new snap build should start in a few moments

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056804] [NEW] Screen corruption on kernel 6.5.0-25, but not on 6.5.0-21

2024-03-11 Thread Shock
Public bug reported:

After updating to 6.5.0-25, I am experiencing a very peculiar form of
screen corruption. It has been persistent and consistent across reboots.
It does not manifest on 6.5.0-21, neither on 5.15.0-100.

Another peculiarity is that right clicking on the right side and lower
side of the screen makes the right-click menu appear in the upper-left
area of the screen.

I am attaching screenshots, kernel version is at the end of the filename.

Could you check your profile comes from a compatible thunderbird version
(but if it doesn't it should tell you on first start with a dialog) and
report your problem upstream? If thunderbird fails to use a valid
profile copied manually then it's not a snap issue (unless your userdir
is on a non standard location/nfs share or similar)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-11 Thread Guy Schlosser
I have read in a couple other pages that I can edit
/etc/apparmor.d/firefox. Since I'm using version 124 beta 9, and my
firefox is installed in /opt/firefox, do I just adjust the path in that
file to make it work? Thanks much in advance for the help.

@Patrik Lunquist Unfortunately this solution doesn't work for me.
As already shown in my previous post.

In the screenshot attached there you can see the "messenger window"
that opens up when starting thunderbird after moving the .thunderbird

There is a passing run with samba/2:4.19.5+dfsg-1ubuntu1

will look further if it becomes a blocker on this arch in the futur.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056767] [NEW] DRAFT [FFe] gnome-software package split

2024-03-11 Thread Jeremy Bícha
Public bug reported:

As requested by the Ubuntu Release Team, I am providing early notice of
a Feature Freeze Exception I intend to request soon (later this week
hopefully) to split the gnome-software package into separate binary
plugins. This will allow users and flavors to specifically opt into the
parts of the GNOME Software experience they want. For instance, someone
may want to use only the Flatpak part or only the apt/.deb part.

What is Needed Now
-
Finish the Salsa merge request to get some review from others.
Evaluate different use case workflows and how well the changes help and any
issues that may result

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2052963] Re: Upgrade from jammy to mantic failed install for gnome-control-center

2024-03-11 Thread Antonio Chay Hidalgo
apt install libsnapd-glib-2-1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Package libsnapd-glib-2-1 is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  libsnapd-glib-2-1:i386

specification, mandating that the backends must always return local
paths, no matter if the chosen file is a local or remote one, by using
  FUSE.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run Firefox as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04
  2. Have a SMB file server available where the network shares can be mounted
just by clicking on the share in Nautilus file manager (smb:// protocol,
usually mounted dynamically via `/var/run/user/.../gvfs/...`)

  * In contrast to files, new folders that are created from within the save
dialog are saved correctly on the network share

share from Firefox / Chromium. After double-clicking e.g. an image file in the
file dialog, the file dialog closes but nothing happens otherwise. Opening an
image on a local folder works fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056481] Re: [snap] Thunderbird does not support native notifications on KDE Plasma Desktop

2024-03-11 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Hi Sebastien,

$ gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-
path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method
org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetCapabilities

(['body', 'body-hyperlinks', 'body-markup', 'body-images', 'icon-static',
'actions', 'persistence',
'inline-reply', 'x-kde-urls', 'x-kde-origin-name', 'x-kde-display-appname',
'inhibitions'],)

And there was definitely something interesting in the debugger console:

mail.notification: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code:
0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIAlertsService.showAlert]
_showAlert resource:///modules/MailNotificationManager.jsm:359

MailNotificationManager.jsm:362:22
_showAlert resource:///modules/MailNotificationManager.jsm:362

I hope that helps.

I have Kerberos authentication set up in Thunderbird for my mailbox.

  My environment contains:

  helga@helga-rashomon:~$ env | grep KRB

This means that Kerberos authentication should work through the sssd-

I initialize Kerberos and verify that it functions correctly:

(listing redacted to say example.org instead of the real address. the
redmine listing shows that Firefox works correctly with this address)

However, when I open the Snap Thunderbird, it does not recognize this
Kerberos setup, showing me "The Kerberos/GSSAPI ticket was not
accepted by the IMAP server". klist -A likewise shows no changes.

The exact same setup works when I specify KRB5CCNAME=DIR:${HOME}/krb5cc in
.profile instead.
The sssd-kcm setup also works in Thunderbird native and Flatpak profiles.

Considering the Flatpak specifically permits access to
/run/.heim_org.h5l.kcm-socket, could it be that the Thunderbird Snap
is not allowed to access this socket?

Kerberos setup, showing me "The Kerberos/GSSAPI ticket was not
accepted by the IMAP server". klist -A likewise shows no changes.

The exact same setup works when I specify KRB5CCNAME=DIR:${HOME}/krb5cc in
.profile instead.
The sssd-kcm setup also works in Thunderbird native and Flatpak profiles.

Considering the Flatpak specifically permits access to
/run/.heim_org.h5l.kcm-socket, could it be that the Thunderbird Snap
is not allowed to access this socket?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056760] [NEW] [snap]Thunderbird doesn't authenticate with sssd-kcm

2024-03-11 Thread Helga
Public bug reported:

I have Kerberos authentication set up in Thunderbird for my mailbox.

My environment contains:

helga@helga-rashomon:~$ env | grep KRB
KRB5CCNAME=KCM:

This means that Kerberos authentication should work through the sssd-kcm
server.

I initialize Kerberos and verify that it functions correctly:

helga@helga-rashomon:~$ klist
Ticket cache: KCM:1000
Default principal: he...@example.org

Valid starting Expires Service principal
03/11/24 04:14:24 03/12/24 04:14:24 krbtgt/example@example.org
03/11/24 04:15:24 03/12/24 04:14:24 HTTP/redmine.example.org@
Ticket server: HTTP/redmine.example@example.org

(listing redacted to say example.org instead of the real address. the
redmine listing shows that Firefox works correctly with this address)

However, when I open the Snap Thunderbird, it does not recognize this
Kerberos setup, showing me "The Kerberos/GSSAPI ticket was not accepted
by the IMAP server". klist -A likewise shows no changes.

The exact same setup works when I specify KRB5CCNAME=DIR:${HOME}/krb5cc in

The sssd-kcm setup also works in Thunderbird native and Flatpak profiles.

Considering the Flatpak specifically permits access to
/run/.heim_org.h5l.kcm-socket, could it be that the Thunderbird Snap is
not allowed to access this socket?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056758] [NEW] ubuntu-bug doesn't let me file bugs for Snap thunderbird

2024-03-11 Thread Helga
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to report a bug in the new Snap for Thunderbird.

When I run "ubuntu-bug thunderbird", it:
* Collects information correctly after I input the sudo password
* Opens a page like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/distros/+filebug/a9564134-dfa6-11ee-85a7-c7116d9f638e?,
which does not seem to be valid.

This is not the case for Firefox, which works fine with ubuntu-bug.

For the record, I don't think this is relevant with this bug. Native
Thunderbird and Flatpak have native notifications on KDE Plasma.

I believe I'm experiencing the same bug. It's more egregious on Wayland because

Unfortunately this has not worked for me.

Before I had also tried moving the whole ~/.thunderbird folder to
~/snap/thunderbird/common/ (which does essentially the same thing as
your rsync)

I just get the error message that you can see in the attached
screenshot.

When I move back the empty profile I get what you'd expect: An empty
profile with no settings etc.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056753] [NEW] pygobject FTBFS on armhf: time_t build test failure

test_gi.py runs a time_t test that I believe is using functions in

Bug description:
I am requesting a blanket UI Freeze exception for all flavor wallpaper
packages in advance of the upcoming UI Freeze for a period of 5 days

available on March 18th, which only gives flavors 2 days to create
  their customized wallpapers.

This is a very tight deadline, and we'd like to avoid putting the
burden on flavors to request individual UIFe's or forcing them to rush
update their wallpaper to make the deadline.

I'd appreciate your support on granting this exception.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

When the user is running a containerized application (like the snapped
Firefox or Chromium), and tries to save a document, the xdg-desktop-
portal-gnome backend does show remote drives (like SMB or SFTP ones),
and allows to choose them, but then the save operation fails.

The previous backend, xdg-desktop-portal-gtk, did work fine in these
cases, because it returned the local path that corresponded to the
local file exported by Gvfs using FUSE, so this behaviour is not only
a serious bug, but also a regression.

  [ Test plan]
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run Firefox as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04
  2. Have a SMB file server available where the network shares can be mounted
just by clicking on the share in Nautilus file manager (smb:// protocol,
usually mounted dynamically via `/var/run/user/.../gvfs/...`)
  3. Have one such share mounted and writable
  4. Open any website containing images in Firefox
  5. Right-click on an image and select "Save Image As..."
  6. In the file save dialog, navigate to the mounted share
  7. Assert content of network share is visible and browsable from within the
save dialog
  8. Select "Save" at any folder in the network share

  Actual behavior:

  * File is not saved to selected network share location
  * No download entry is created
  * No error is shown

  Expected behavior:

  * File is saved to selected network share location
  * No error is shown

[ Where problems could occur ]

  - If the remote drives aren't exported as local files by Gvfs using
FUSE, the patch won't work and the behaviour will be the same than
  now.

  - Any hidden bug in g_file_get_path() when managing remote drives
could be triggered by this patch.

  [ Additional information ]

  * When saving to a folder on the local machine instead, saving works
correctly as expected
  * In contrast to files, new folders that are created from within the save
dialog are saved correctly on the network share
  * Similar situation when trying to open a file with Ctrl + O on a network
share from Firefox / Chromium. After double-clicking e.g. an image file in the
file dialog, the file dialog closes but nothing happens otherwise. Opening an
image on a local folder works fine.

path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method
org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetCapabilities

in your environment?

In the notify-osd case it's missing the 'action' capability which was
the problem but I expect that's probably not the case under KDE

OK windowPreview.js isn't the only place it can happen. The logs in

  * No error is shown

  Expected behavior:

  * File is saved to selected network share location
  * No error is shown

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056668] Re: Thunderbird Snap migration loses user profile

2024-03-11 Thread Skia
Here is how I worked around this:
* close thunderbird, make sure it's not running in the background
* `rsync -raxPHAX ~/.thunderbird/ ~/snap/thunderbird/common/.thunderbird/`
* edit `~/snap/thunderbird/common/.thunderbird/profiles.ini` to make sure the
only profile listed here is the one with the data (the biggest folder in
`~/snap/thunderbird/common/.thunderbird/`)
* run thunderbird

So far, everything seems to be in order, including contacts, calendars
on multiple accounts, sieve filter and message redirect plugins.

Title:
  [BPO] libreoffice 7.6.5 for jammy

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Jammy:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.6.5 is in its fifth bugfix release of the 7.6 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.6#7.6.5_release

   * This source packages matches the proposed SRU for mantic handled at
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/2054111

  [Scope]

   * Backport of
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/4:7.6.5-0ubuntu0.23.10.1

   * Backport target is Jammy/22.04 LTS releases to provide an official
build of a more recent upstream version of LibreOffice

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_76/1816/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:

  * Regression tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
  * Feature tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests
that were run and verified as passing.

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented
  by: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

seemed like some DNS resolution was broken (pinging anything gave
Temporary failure in name resolution). I added 1.1.1.1 to
/etc/resolv.conf and then do-release-upgrade could contact the snap

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2039801] Re: Locate pointer not working when animations are disabled

Title:
Locate pointer not working when animations are disabled

Status in GNOME Shell:
  New
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 23.10 (Mantic Minotaur), going through the
regular process of settling in with the new features and so forth, I realised
that the 'locate pointer' is not working as expected.
When the focus is on a screen element (like this text field that I am
entering information into) I can press the left ctrl button and the border will
flash around the element/text field/button etcetera.
(I have made a screen cast, if I can I will upload it)
Previously when pressing the left ctrl button the mouse pointer would be
shown with a circular pulsing image (like a something dropping into calm
water).
I have read several forums and have looked specifically how to set the locate
pointer option, I have set it in accessibility->pointing & clicking->Locate
Pointer, also via cli with "gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface
locate-pointer true" and using the gnome tweaks gui.
  None of these things work.
  Ubuntu 23.10,gnome 45, gdm3, acer aspire V 17 nitro black edition
  Description: Ubuntu 23.10
  Release: 23.10
Not seemingly specific to any 'package' so package version is not relevant.

Expect the mouse pointer to be highlighted instead only the cursor position
is located.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2004532] Re: Hardware acceleration broken for amdgpu/mesa in snap

2024-03-11 Thread Nathan Teodosio
For Chromium users:

Can you verify if either of

  snap remove chromium
  snap install --beta chromium

or

  snap remove chromium
  snap install --channel internal-libdrm chromium

fixes the issue?

Note: A refresh will *not* work for the first case, it really needs to
be removed and installed back (looks like there is a bug in Snapd).

Two snap packages which are now unusable are Mozilla Firefox and
Chromium browsers. Both display animated speckled color garbage inside
their windows, overlayed with the correct image. Disabling hardware
acceleration in the settings for the snap version of Firefox fixed it.
Also, Firefox version installed from the original Mozilla tarball into
/opt/ works just fine with the acceleration enabled on the same

  affecting snap packages.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054887] Re: Grahpical bugs caused by unable to access libdrm

2024-03-11 Thread Nathan Teodosio
** Description changed:

+ Related: LP:2004532.
+
The chromium snap package has a bunch of graphical glitches that makes
the program unusable. This appears to be caused by the snap package
being unable to access the libdrm directory. Below is the output I get
when launching the program. I have confirmed I have libdrm installed and
the amdgpu.ids file is present on my system. Using a normal version of
Chromium (not a snap) works as expected so I believe there is an issue
  with the snap package.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054887] Re: Grahpical bugs caused by unable to access libdrm

2024-03-11 Thread Nathan Teodosio
I can reproduce the issue if I refresh instead of really reinstalling
the snap, so a bug in Snapd.

Please try

   snap remove chromium
   snap install --beta chromium

Does the amdgpu.ids error go away now?

If that still doesn't solve the graphical bugs and you have time, it
would also be very useful whether

   snap install --channel beta/internal-libdrm chromium

works.

Grahpical bugs caused by unable to access libdrm

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Related: LP:2004532.

The chromium snap package has a bunch of graphical glitches that makes
the program unusable. This appears to be caused by the snap package
being unable to access the libdrm directory. Below is the output I get
when launching the program. I have confirmed I have libdrm installed
and the amdgpu.ids file is present on my system. Using a normal
version of Chromium (not a snap) works as expected so I believe there
is an issue with the snap package.

/usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids: No such file or directory
