If I switch my drivers to nvdia-driver-470, surprise!: everything works as expected, widgets are really widgets and I can see weather information on every desktop, in the position I placed them. The problem is that I can't use nvdia-driver-470 because they let crash my digital signature application, which is more important to me than weather info, so I have to use xorg-server, but I would like it to work correctly with widgets as well. You are right, sorry. I rebooted the machine because gnome got stuck, got a "do you want to send crash info", and thought that another crash occurred after reboot, but actually it was before reboot. While checking logs of current boot I saw a line that I don't understand: Mar 14 19:19:16 gnome-shell[2140]: Extension ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com already installed in /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com. /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com will not be loaded Is it expected? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2057964] [NEW] xserver for NVDIA GeForce GT710 not showing widgets but windows
Public bug reported: On my Ububtu 22.04.4 system, NVDIA GeForce GT710, my-weather-indicator does not show widget as they should be (move them across desktop, positioning, showing on all desktop, etc.), but are shown as windows, impossible to move from the position they have when shown. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2057964 Title: xserver for NVDIA GeForce GT710 not showing widgets but windows Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On my Ububtu 22.04.4 system, NVDIA GeForce GT710, my-weather-indicator does not show widget as they should be (move them across desktop, positioning, showing on all desktop, etc.), but are shown as windows, impossible to move from the position they have when shown. Sure, if one knows that canonical-published snaps can trigger installation of 3rd-party-published snaps despite specifically disabling the system-wide "APT::Install-Recommends" setting, one can act accordingly. But how would users even learn that snap, when solely instructed to install a non-privileged browser, also decides to enable a privileged network daemon? One that certainly has a high risk of exposing additional RCE bugs, the threat level of which in the snap scenario is however not obvious from documentation like https://ubuntu.com/security/cves?q==cups -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2017447 Title: chromium installs cupsd snap Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: at some point, chromium has installed cupsd : cupsd isn't listed as installed in aptitude but it *is* listed under snap list if i wanted cups installed and printer support i would have installed it myself this shouldn't be installing itself through the backdoor via autoupdate there also doesn't seem to be anywhere in settings to turn it off Version 112.0.5615.49 (Official Build) snap (64-bit) (updated via snap refresh) ubuntu: 20.04 LTS ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Uname: Linux 6.0.7-gnulibre-squashfix x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.26 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Apr 23 13:58:18 2023 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-04-18 (2196 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) Snap: chromium 112.0.5615.49 (latest/stable) SnapSource: ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to focal on 2020-04-25 (1093 days ago) mtime.conffile..etc.apport.crashdb.conf: 2020-06-07T21:16:26.397404 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/2017447/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1
I am still having this issue every time I reboot, on Ubuntu Desktop v23.10. The "gvfs" package installed is version "1.52.0-1". This issue is 100% reproducible, and my work-around still demonstrates that the package itself (gvfs) has the capabilities of solving this itself. Instead of failing, producing a not-helpful error, it should simply re-init the relevant components that re-init when I do the "killall gvfsd-smb-browse" after trying to browser the SMB Server. While I have not looked at the code, I know programming well-enough that a basic re-init in this scenario should be a trivial amount of code to write, as a basic work-around until a proper solution is identified. Either way, is this even going anywhere? Are any Devs reading this at all? (Canonical or otherwise) This issue is coming up to 5 years old, and frankly the UX here is unacceptable, potentially even threatening the usability in professional settings. Can we please get a proper solution here? Or at minimum, a built-in stop-gap solution as I have roughly described? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1828107 Title: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1 Status in gvfs: Fix Released Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: After bug #1778322 is fixed (just needs a gvfs rebuild with newer samba), samba machines will start to show up again in the "windows network" tab in nautilus. (In reply to shamshuddin from comment #32) > Created attachment 77413 [details] > i would like to retrive password > > i would like to retriver password Sorry. Those are strongly-encrypted files. If you don't know or have forgotten the password, you will have to look for password-cracking software that *might* be able to discover a password that works. This is not something that Apache OpenOffice provides, not even for files that are saved with Password by Apache OpenOffice. We do not have any recommendations for products that might work. Also, the difficulty of recovering passwords is a feature. Furthermore, encrypted .docx and .xslx files are not OOXML files. They are something else, but Microsoft Office recognizes them as files that decrypt to unencrypted .docx and .xslx. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404647 Title: Cannot open Password protected docx/xlsx Files Status in OpenOffice: Fix Released Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in openoffice.org package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I thought that OO 3.0 could read Word documents with the extension docx but I get the message 'file is not a WinWord6 document.' [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051074] Re: Mirror mode doesn't work when panel only supports one refresh rate with reduced blanking
There is an armhf DEP8 failure that I just retriggered, let's see if it passes in the next run. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051074 Title: Mirror mode doesn't work when panel only supports one refresh rate with reduced blanking Status in HWE Next: New Status in OEM Priority Project: New Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Mantic: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Noble: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] On systems equipped with reduced blanking panel, mirror mode can result to no image on external monitor. The reason is due to current fallback modes don't have pixelclock for reduced blanking, so inadequate refresh rate is used to mode set, and result with atomic commit failure. [Fix] https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/3449 Add reduced blanking (RB) to fallback modes, so mutter can use RB mode to meet pixelclock requirement in order to pick the right refresh rate. [Test] Connect an external monitor to affected system. Use the monitor hotkey to switch to mirror mode or use GNOME control center to choose mirror mode. With the patch included, the issue is no longer observed. [Where problems could occur] The modelines of reduced blanking have reversed Hsync and Vsync flags, so if the driver doesn't handle those flags correctly, the atomic modeset/commit may fail. I haven't observe any issue on Intel/AMD/Nvidia GPU so far. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054510] Re: Incomplete screen redraws in virtual machines running Xorg
There is an armhf DEP8 failure that I just retriggered, let's see if it passes in the next run. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054510 Title: Incomplete screen redraws in virtual machines running Xorg Status in Mutter: Fix Released Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Mantic: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Noble: Fix Committed Bug description: [ Impact ] When using software rendering on Xorg (so usually just in VMs), some parts of app windows may fail to redraw. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2880 [ Test Plan ] 1. Set up a virtual machine without graphics acceleration. 2. Log into 'Ubuntu on Xorg'. 3. Open Settings > About and verify Graphics = llvmpipe (or "Software Rendering"), and Windowing System = X11. 4. sudo snap install chromium 5. Open Chromium and find a web page with lots of text. Plain text without any links and staying at the top of the page will work best because you don't want to trigger any scrolling. 6. Start selecting text with the mouse and while holding the button move the mouse up and down rapidly. Avoid triggering any page scrolling. 7. Release the mouse button in roughly the middle of the area of text that was selected. 8. Verify the remaining text selection is contiguous and not broken into multiple disconnected text selections (the bug). 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 several times to be sure. [ Where problems could occur ] The fix adds a new synchronization point between the compositor and X server. This should be inconsequential, although there is a "sync ring" in mutter used for this, and if a mistake occurs there then other parts of the desktop could appear to stop responding in Xorg sessions. [ Other Info ] This is a regression that started in 3.37.3 due to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/551101c65cda. Connect external monitor to the affected system 7. Switch display modes to mirror mode 8. Observe the mirror mode can be set successfully. So the issue is resolved. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-jammy ** Tags removed: verification-needed-jammy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051074 Title: Mirror mode doesn't work when panel only supports one refresh rate with reduced blanking Status in HWE Next: New Status in OEM Priority Project: New Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Mantic: Fix Committed Status in mutter source package in Noble: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] On systems equipped with reduced blanking panel, mirror mode can result to no image on external monitor.
