Status in libu2f-host package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Since systemd v244, specifically this commit
  (https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/11996), systemd detects U2F
  devices based on their declared usage (page) and automatically
  generates the relevant udev rules. Manually maintaining device-
  specific rules is therefore no longer necessary and libu2f-udev can be
  removed from libu2f-host.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058253] Re: Notebook screen the look is "matte" in KDE

If it looks correct in GNOME then please briefly log into GNOME and run:

and attach the resulting text file here.

Also if KDE has any monitor colour profile settings then try toggling
those.

Bug description:
  Hi, feedback:
  In general, on the notebook screen, the look is "matte", smoke in the images,
videos, games, on the desktop, etc., especially when the screen brightness
increases.
  When compared to Ubuntu with gnome, windows 11, it has greater clarity,
stronger colors, etc.
  In Kubuntu I didn't find the option to increase the sharpness, to improve
etc., so I wanted to leave feedback here, to help with the project.

  session

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  On my Ububtu 22.04.4 system, NVDIA GeForce GT710, my-weather-indicator does
not show widget as they should be (move them across desktop, positioning,
showing on all desktop, etc.), but are shown as windows, impossible to move
from the position they have when shown.
  If I switch my drivers to nvdia-driver-470, surprise!: everything works as
expected, widgets are really widgets and I can see weather information on every
desktop, in the position I placed them.
  The problem is that I can't use nvdia-driver-470 because they let crash my
digital signature application, which is more important to me than weather info,
so I have to use xorg-server, but I would like it to work correctly with
widgets as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058310] [NEW] Dummy output with Celeron Silver audio

2024-03-18 Thread Chris Hall
Public bug reported:

Built in speakers have alsa driver as sof-audio-pci-intel-apl, but there
is no sound. I believe the CPU sound unit is essx-8336. Many people have
reported similar problems, with the system sound being "dummy output".
My bluetooth ear buds do work. Endeavour-OS and Fedora 39 live images do
work with this machine, as does the Win 11 dual boot, so the hardware
works. Will this problem be fixed in version 24.04?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1

2024-03-18 Thread smiki
I can confirm that on latest LTS (22.04.4) this is still present.
This is a major usability issue. I remember having this problem for many year
now.

Workaround is clear(killing gvfsd-smb-browse). Even a patch is released
that although not solving the root cause shows that the problem is gvfs
left in a bad state -- see post #45 (William Maddox (wmaddox3rd))

this issue us haunting me almost daily for 5years now. And is a core
userexperience functionality of any user to be able to see shares on a
local network.

Even though its a gvfs issue, ubuntu-desktop shold prioritize fixing
this since it affects such a core UX function.

Bug description:
  After bug #1778322 is fixed (just needs a gvfs rebuild with newer
  samba), samba machines will start to show up again in the "windows
  network" tab in nautilus. But if a server has disabled the SMB1
  protocol, nautilus will show an error when that server is clicked on,
  instead of showing the shares list.

  Even with SMB1 disabled, it should still be technically possible to
  get a share list, since smbclient can do it:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-18 Thread John Johansen
@ajg-charlbury: no apparmor beta3 has not landed in proposed yet, we are
working on the upload now. firefox separately have added a bug fix that
will detect when the user namespace/capabilities are denied and fallback
without crashing but it disables the full sandbox.

the apparmor-beta3 fix should enable firefox to function with the full
sandbox.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-18 Thread ajgreeny
I have just tried running firefox from the firefox-nightly download and all
runs well using that version
125.0a1 (2024-03-17) (64-bit).

I assume the beta3 you speak of is the new version of apparmor; is that
the same version as the current apparmor-proposed version?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058136] Re: Sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-03-18 Thread fossfreedom
Hi Robie

ok - I'm asking for a sync and merge.

enc is the debdiff from what I tested via a grab-merge

I also created a test PPA building against noble-proposed for all
architectures to check the build status.

  Sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Status in udisks2 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Please sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

  Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
* Don't build with -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions. It breaks module loading, as
  it confuses GObject's type loading cache: "cannot register existing type
  'UDisksDaemon'". (Patch also applied to Debian packaging git, can be
  synced next time). (LP: #2040488)
* Fix an event loop that can occur when ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE is not set for a
  device and that device has partitions. (LP: #2037569)
* Fix an event loop that can occur when ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE is not set for a
  device and that device has partitions. (LP: #2037569)

  The existing ubuntu noble-proposed FTBFS

  The -Wl, -Bsymbolic-functions is part of debian as per the -6
  changelog entry

  I did a grab-merge of udisks then built with both the debian
  tests-Fix-targetcli_config.json.patch and the ubuntu
  lp-2037569-skip-bd_part_get_disk_spec.patch - using sbuild this successfully
  builds in noble-proposed.

  Can I suggest ubuntu adds the debian delta as well as the ubuntu delta patch
  as part of this sync & merge

  Changelog entries since current noble version 2.10.1-1ubuntu3:

  udisks2 (2.10.1-6) unstable; urgency=medium

[ Martin Pitt ]
* Don't build with -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions.
  It breaks module loading, as it confuses GObject's type loading cache:
  "cannot register existing type 'UDisksDaemon'".
  Ubuntu enables this linker flag by default, no-op for Debian.
  (LP: #2040488)

[ Michael Biebl ]
* Drop python3-distutils Depends from debian/tests/control.
  No longer needed since 2.10.0. (Closes: #1065991)
* Build-depend on pkgconf instead of pkg-config

   -- Michael Biebl   Mon, 11 Mar 2024 23:19:45 +0100

  udisks2 (2.10.1-5) unstable; urgency=medium

* tests: Fix targetcli_config.json.
  Not all attributes are available anymore in newer kernel versions.

   -- Michael Biebl   Wed, 10 Jan 2024 12:28:58 +0100

  udisks2 (2.10.1-4) unstable; urgency=medium

* Stop moving files from /usr/sbin to /sbin.
  With merged-/usr being mandatory, this is no longer necessary.

   -- Michael Biebl   Mon, 27 Nov 2023 05:40:54 +0100

  udisks2 (2.10.1-3) unstable; urgency=medium

* Replace udev Build-Depends with systemd-dev.
  The new systemd-dev package ships udev.pc and systemd.pc which provides
  the paths for udevdir/systemdsystemunitdir/tmpfilesdir.

   -- Michael Biebl   Mon, 20 Nov 2023 23:51:36 +0100

  udisks2 (2.10.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

* Move systemd services files and udev rules to /usr.
  Add a corresponding versioned Build-Depends on debhelper (>= 13.11.6) to
  ensure we have a recent enough dh_installsystemd.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2057964] Re: Weather widgets appear in the wrong position in a Wayland session

2024-03-18 Thread IngPaolo
Good news: "Ubuntu on Xorg" does the job.
I had already uninstalled nvdia-driver-470 in order to use my digital signature
application (which does not work with them).
So I've simply started a new session, logged in with "Ubuntu on Xorg": now
weather widgets works as they are supposed to do (as you said) and my digital
signature application works fine as well.

Title:
  Weather widgets appear in the wrong position in a Wayland session

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058136] Re: Sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-03-18 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for working on this!

> Can I suggest ubuntu adds the debian delta as well as the ubuntu delta
patch as part of this sync & merge

Sorry, I don't follow. It looks like lp-2037569-skip-
bd_part_get_disk_spec.patch is part of the Ubuntu delta uploaded in
ubuntu1. A sync would drop this, but you tested a build that still
includes it? If so, why are you requesting a sync?

What am I missing?

Title:
  Sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Status in udisks2 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Please sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

  Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
* Don't build with -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions. It breaks module loading, as
  it confuses GObject's type loading cache: "cannot register existing type
  'UDisksDaemon'". (Patch also applied to Debian packaging git, can be
  synced next time). (LP: #2040488)
* Fix an event loop that can occur when ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE is not set for a
  device and that device has partitions. (LP: #2037569)
* Fix an event loop that can occur when ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE is not set for a
  device and that device has partitions. (LP: #2037569)

  The existing ubuntu noble-proposed FTBFS

  The -Wl, -Bsymbolic-functions is part of debian as per the -6
  changelog entry

  I did a grab-merge of udisks then built with both the debian
  tests-Fix-targetcli_config.json.patch and the ubuntu
  lp-2037569-skip-bd_part_get_disk_spec.patch - using sbuild this successfully
  builds in noble-proposed.

  Can I suggest ubuntu adds the debian delta as well as the ubuntu delta patch
  as part of this sync & merge

  Changelog entries since current noble version 2.10.1-1ubuntu3:

  udisks2 (2.10.1-6) unstable; urgency=medium

[ Martin Pitt ]
* Don't build with -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions.
  It breaks module loading, as it confuses GObject's type loading cache:
  "cannot register existing type 'UDisksDaemon'".
  Ubuntu enables this linker flag by default, no-op for Debian.
  (LP: #2040488)

[ Michael Biebl ]
* Drop python3-distutils Depends from debian/tests/control.
  No longer needed since 2.10.0. (Closes: #1065991)
* Build-depend on pkgconf instead of pkg-config

   -- Michael Biebl   Mon, 11 Mar 2024 23:19:45 +0100

  udisks2 (2.10.1-5) unstable; urgency=medium

* tests: Fix targetcli_config.json.

* Replace udev Build-Depends with systemd-dev.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2055148] Re: NetworkManager connections with an explicit DoT (DNS over TLS) are not supported with Netplan

2024-03-18 Thread Lukas Märdian
We should land a fix keeping the full string in
networkmanager.passthrough and additionaly work on a proper upstream
solution, as suggested by Danilo in comment #4, introducing new settings
as a longer term solution.

  From: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/blog-netplan-developer-

  Hi all,

  NetworkManager connections with an explicit DoT (DNS over TLS)
  configuration are not supported with Netplan, but NetworkManager does
  feed back the DoT DNS info with server address and Server Name
  Indication (SNI) in the form server_address#SNI, e.g.
  1.2.3.4#dns.myhome.com as nameserver addresses to Netplan. As a
  result, subsequent Netplan config applications fail because DNS
  servers don’t have the expected dotted decimal (IPv4) or colon’ed hex
  (IPv6) form.

  ```
  nmcli> describe ipv4.dns
  === [dns] ===
  [NM property description]
  Array of IP addresses of DNS servers. For DoT (DNS over TLS), the SNI server
name can be specified by appending "#example.com" to the IP address of the DNS
server. This currently only has effect when using systemd-resolved.
  ```

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058253] [NEW] Notebook screen the look is "matte"

2024-03-18 Thread Leandro
Public bug reported:

Hi, feedback:
In general, on the notebook screen, the look is "matte", smoke in the images,
videos, games, on the desktop, etc., especially when the screen brightness
increases.
When compared to Ubuntu with gnome, windows 11, it has greater clarity,
stronger colors, etc.
In Kubuntu I didn't find the option to increase the sharpness, to improve etc.,
so I wanted to leave feedback here, to help with the project.

Title:
  Notebook screen the look is "matte"

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi, feedback:
  In general, on the notebook screen, the look is "matte", smoke in the images,
videos, games, on the desktop, etc., especially when the screen brightness
increases.
  When compared to Ubuntu with gnome, windows 11, it has greater clarity,
stronger colors, etc.
  In Kubuntu I didn't find the option to increase the sharpness, to improve
etc., so I wanted to leave feedback here, to help with the project.

This is consistent across firefox, chrome and VLC. Checked all settings
I could find in the GUI (still new to linux), and headphones seemed to
be connected just fine. Sound test in the settings worked fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058231] [NEW] Fallback to IPv4-LL when DHCP is failing

2024-03-18 Thread Lukas Märdian
Public bug reported:

The intention of the previous avahi-autoipd integration was that on a
connection that does have dhcp configured, it will fall back to IPV4LL
if dhcp is unavailable.

This integration was recently dropped (and I think it never worked as intended
in the first place):
https://code.launchpad.net/~vorlon/ubuntu-seeds/+git/ubuntu/+merge/460785

We want to implement this functionality in Ubuntu/NetworkManager and there's
some upstream work tracking this too:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/966

See FR-4142

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I can't see anything that would cause this behaviour... Does the same
occur on any other machine? And does the machine have more than one
keyboard?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054769] Re: Boot animation and login screen use different display scales

2024-03-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Let's ignore comment #9 because it only affects my desktop with a 27" 4K
monitor. The original laptop this bug was about still works with the
latest proposed fix (which will be rolled into bug 1970069).

  Boot animation and login screen use different display scales, on some
  (not many) machines.

  For example on a Microsoft Surface Laptop 4, Plymouth seems to use
  scale 2 for the boot screen while GNOME selects scale 1 for the login
  screen. This means the Ubuntu logo shrinks.

  I've tried a few laptops and so far it's only the Surface Laptop 4
  that has the problem: 13.5" 2256x1504, 201 PPI

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2055176 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055176

It looks like your system experienced another issue too: sublime_text
used over 40GB of RAM today around 4:01pm, before that caused other
parts of the system to fail and the kernel stepped in and killed
sublime_text.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1977634

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Bug description:
  Boot animations start too late to be useful

  Modern systems spend all their boot time (a couple of seconds)
  decompressing the kernel. During that time the user only sees the
  static BIOS logo (ACPI BGRT). Then when Plymouth can finally start
  animating, the startup process is already finished and there's
  virtually no time left to show any useful animations.

  This could be fixed in:

    grub: By adding a splash under the BIOS logo to show some progress
  _before_ a Linux kernel is even started

  and/or

    plymouth: By preferencing legacy framebuffer devices (like EFI) over
  DRM, if we find those are available a few seconds sooner. That would
  also fix bug 1868240 completely, and bug 1836858 mostly as the flicker
  moves to when the login screen starts.

Then I'm marking this as fixed and restricting its scope to just the
missing amdgpu.ids. The actual rendering issue is already tracked in
LP:2004532.

> with the below errors

Those are expected warnings, they don't relate to the reported issue.

> The following command says that "chromium is already installed

Ah, when you already have the snap installed you use 'snap refresh ...'
instead.

> I am starting to wonder if it is a bug not present in Chromium but in
snap itself. I decided to try Firefox and the issue is present there
too.

Thanks for your proactivity with regards to investigating this bug. The
lack of amdgpu.ids in the snap was indeed caused by snap confinement,
but judging by the stderr we now have all files and libraries reachable,
so a system library such as Mesa could also be playing a role in the
bug.

  The chromium snap package has a bunch of graphical glitches that makes

  when launching the program. I have confirmed I have libdrm installed
  and the amdgpu.ids file is present on my system. Using a normal

  is an issue with the snap package.
