[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058327] Re: Starting up Files app in external monitor freeze the entire monitor
Thanks. This is starting to look familiar since the app window has: Width: 7680 Height: 4320 and gnome-shell has: Mar 20 12:51:12 khteh-p17-2i gnome-shell[4276]: Enabling experimental feature 'x11-randr-fractional-scaling' So I think you might be hitting a similar issue to bug 2004533 and https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/3050, although I don't see the same error message in your log. That may be because Nautilus is now using GTK4 in more recent Ubuntu releases and those other bugs were from when GTK3 was more widely used. To test this theory, please temporarily try: * using scale 100% on all monitors; and/or * disabling fractional scaling ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues #3050 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/3050 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058327 Title: Starting up Files app in external monitor freeze the entire monitor Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Starting up Files app in external monitor freeze the entire external monitor. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2018539] Re: File selector extremely slow
I also have this issue. It is so, so, so slow. This did not happen with older versions of Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2018539 Title: File selector extremely slow Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When you try to upload/download a file in an application (e.g. Firefox, Signal, etc) the file selector that opens is extremely slow to appear, search and change directory. Often times, if I try to search for a file in it, I have to wait 10 or more second before the letters I typed appear, and most of the time the last letter I pressed when typing, will appear before the rest of what I wrote, meaning I have to wait for my query to be deleted before I re-type it again. This has only just started since upgrading to Ubuntu 23.04. I noticed that Nautilus has been faster in general since the update, but in the file selector specifically, it's become unusable. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058513] [NEW] Screen sharing works once, then not again until restart
Public bug reported: I have 3 22.04 machines. Only one of them can I share the screen with reliably. The other 2 work the first time I try to connect (from Ubuntu 20.04 machine, or 22.04 machine) but a second try just says 'server ended vnc session'. No offer to enter a password appears. In my installation I've updated the installer to "edge/lp-2009141" (subiquity 22.02.2+git1762.1b1ee6f4 5164). During my installations I first noticed bad response times in case of dealing with devices (like enabling new devices with chzdev). chzdev is used during the installation, hence the installation procedure is also affected by this. (I mainly notice this issue in case of DASD ECKD disk enablements.) But even after after a successful (but due to this issue less snappier) installation, means after the post-install reboot, in the installed system I can find several udev related processes, like: 69448 root 20 0 31280 11944 2560 S 39.2 0.0 2:51.67 (udev-worker) 509 root 20 0 31276 13812 4600 S 20.6 0.0 2:07.76 systemd-udevd 893 root 20 0 469016 13544 10496 R 17.3 0.0 1:43.53 udisksd 1 root 20 0 168664 12748 8396 S 16.3 0.0 1:40.47 systemd which is not only unusual, but (as one can see) they consume quite some resources. Even the remote ssh into that system is impacted by this high load. So far I only see this in mantic. I tried 20.04.3 as well as lunar, but both do not seem to be affected by this udev problem. I neither face the bad response on device enablement, nor can see any udev related processes still running after post-install-reboot in the installed system. (Sometimes I could also see a growing log file 'syslog'). I cannot say yet what is causing this, but since I see 'systemd-udevd' as prominent process in top, I'll first of all mark this as affecting systemd-udevd (or systemd). I've attached the outcome of some more investigations I did ... [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058136] Re: Sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)
In the future, could you change the title to "Merge" instead of "Sync". Sync has a specific meaning and it is confusing to sponsors to use that word. Although it is possible to sync first and then apply an Ubuntu diff as a separate upload, it is more common to just do a single upload. I am uploading this for you and am unsubscribing ubuntu-sponsors. Please feel free to resubscribe if you have anything else that needs to be sponsored. ** Changed in: udisks2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Committed ** Changed in: udisks2 (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to udisks2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058136 Title: Sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main) Status in udisks2 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Please sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main) Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped: * Don't build with -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions. This also requests updating gnome-control-center to fully enable the features of gnome-remote-desktop 46. Impact -- A headline feature of GNOME 46 is support as a Remote Desktop server without requiring someone to already be logged in locally ("headless" mode). Notably, enabling this changes the port for the older service, now called "Desktop Sharing" to 3390. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054163] Re: Figure out packaging repo details
I overhauled the Ubuntu package to use the Debian orig tarballs since we need to be able to update our vendoring at any time. Therefore, the pristine-tar and debian/* branches are stored at https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/snapshot But the ubuntu/* branches are stored at https://salsa.debian.org/ubuntu-dev-team/snapshot There is also https://salsa.debian.org/ubuntu-dev-team/snapshot/-/blob/ubuntu/latest/debian/README.source The ubuntu/* branches are stored separately because the vendoring takes a very large amount of space compared to the rest of what is stored in the git repo and we want to be polite to the Debian GNOME team. It's possible to reconsider later but this should work for now. ** Changed in: gnome-snapshot (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-snapshot in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054163 Title: Figure out packaging repo details Status in gnome-snapshot package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Ubuntu's gnome-snapshot packaging had to diverge from Debian's because current Rust policy for Ubuntu main requires that it be vendored. This conflicts with best practice in Debian to devendor packages. Ubuntu changes to GNOME packages are normally pushed to a separate branch in Salsa in the same repo as the Debian packages. This usually adds a slight overhead to the Debian repo in exchange for a better Ubuntu workflow and easier sharing between Debian and Ubuntu. In this case, I think the overhead is more significant. The vendor/ directory is very large. The vendored orig tarball is currently 33 megabytes. In comparison, the devendored tarball is only 1 megabyte. Every new upstream release would add permanently significantly increase the git repo size. Without knowing the monitor layout (xrandr) I don't know what I'm seeing in that screenshot. Are you saying that other apps also fail to render on the external monitor after the bug has started?
