Title:
  Eclipse fails to start on fresh 18.04 installation

Status in eclipse package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in eclipse package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  I just installed 18.04 from today's March 10th desktop ISO in a VM
  with all default settings. I proceeded to install Eclipse and build
  tools with:

  sudo apt-get install eclipse git build-essential

  I then ran `eclipse` in a terminal from my home directory (launcher
  icon behaves same way). I expected Eclipse to open, but instead I got
  a popup saying:

  An error has occurred. See the log file

/home/vidar/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.8_155965261/configuration/1520710304064.log

  Meanwhile, the following messages are printed on stderr:

  OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize=256m;
support was removed in 8.0
  Gtk-Message: 11:31:25.572: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
  Gtk-Message: 11:31:25.619: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

  The file it mentions contains:

  !SESSION Sat Mar 10 11:31:44 PST 2018

  !ENTRY org.eclipse.equinox.launcher 4 0 2018-03-10 11:31:44.078

  `eclipse`, `eclipse-jdt` and `eclipse-platform` are all version
  3.8.1-11. There are no pending updates after an `apt-get update &&
  apt-get upgrade`. Installing libcanberra-gtk-module got rid of those
  warnings, but the popup and error message remain.

  Thunderbird freezes at random. I must kill it then reload it.
  Sometimes the freeze happens when sending a mail. I had no problem in 11.10.

  It happens several times a day. The only pattern that I can currently
  see is that the freeze happens frequently when thunderbird is using
  the network.

  [Test Case]
  * Install update
  * Run Firefox/Thunderbird for a day
  * Make sure it does not freeze

  * Minimal
  * Upstream release for gtk2-engines-oxygen is only a bug fix release

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 666921] Re: (Kubuntu) GTK app freeze when some GUI feature is used

2014-10-01 Thread Arthur Lutz (Logilab)
Am getting something similar to this but don't known where to start
debugging it. Removing libcanberra-gtk-module doesn't fix the problem.

Doing a

   $ lsof  | grep libcanberra

gets me a bunche of matches on files from libcanberra0. Trying to remove
that offers to install a bunch of new packages, but removes a number of
other things I use. Am using trusty.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1376243] [NEW] Intermitent freeze of window, goes grey when changing workspaces in awesomevm

2014-10-01 Thread Arthur Lutz (Logilab)
Public bug reported:

This is probably a gtk bug but I don't know on whih package I should put
it. The main application on which I encounter this bug is
fireworfirefox so amposting it here.

Every few seconds or few minutes I get a freeze on firefox. At first I
thought it was just on videos (and the sound keeps on going) but as a
matter of fact it's the whole window even when not showing a video. For
example, as am I typing this, twice since I began, the text stops
showing, I keep on typing and then it appears.

I am using awesomewm as a window manager but I doubt the bug is there.
The QT apps are running fine. My thunderbird is even more freeze prone
that my firefox (for example openning a new mail window is really slow).
Sometimes when I click on a menu it will take time to appear and then if
I change workspaces it will appear on the other workspaces.

I thought it might be
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs23/+bug/1142213 or
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk2-engines-
oxygen/+bug/963736 but nothing fixed it. I tried disabling addons but
with no luck.

Am running trusty. This is becoming a blocking issue for me and would
greatly appreciate tips on how to debug it and fix it.

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1376243] Re: Intermitent freeze of window, goes grey when changing workspaces in awesomevm

2014-10-01 Thread Arthur Lutz (Logilab)
For some reason, this seems to be related to awesomewm because loging
out and trying firefox out in gnome doesn't seem to freeze the same way.
At some point I got an error message saying Firefox is not responding
wait or kill but it's been working ok since.

I still have a huge load time on thunderbird. Is there a way to move
this bug to awesomevm ?
