Public bug reported:
I've been seeing continued restarts on my Ubuntu 12.04 system, often
ocurring several times a day. I don't know what may cause it - I've
suspected it could be related to browser media, but the last crash and
restart actually occurred from the login screen.

Symptoms: All of a sudden the screen is black, and the computer restarts
back to the login screen.
Note: It's a full restart, not just the X server which crashes.
I'm not using proprietary graphics drivers, and effects are thus

OK, I'm beginning to think this is because of faulty hardware. Not the
proprietary graphics driver, as it's not loaded, but something else. The
computer restarted at least eight times today before I gave up!
Still, if some hardware is faulty shouldn't the OS report this rather

I just experienced the same problem on Ubuntu 20.04 at a Best Western
hotel in London.
It's kind of a dealbreaker if you're travelling and need to work, so
would be good to have it fixed.

I experienced this recently while staying on a hotel in London. While I
managed to get online on my Android phone, it was annoying - would be
good to see it fixed so it works out of the box.
