Public bug reported:
I tend to switch default playback between two outputs on the same
soundcard, the s/pdif digital out and 3.55mm headphone jack. I expect
both devices to save their previous output levels from last time i used
it. This doesn't happen.
If i were to put my output volume on

Might just say, the device named HDMI/Display Port is the only device letting
me utilize the integrated s/pdif output.
I am not using the HDMI/Display Port at my gfx card at all.

setting 0x1e to SPDIF Out (optical) is not enough, to make HDMI/Display
change name to SPDIF Output.
I need to put 0x11 to n/a for device to change name, after that it works:

Okay, i put 0x11 and 0x1e to spdif out, no difference. I got pulseaudio
verbose log, but pulseaudio crashed many times and i have no audio
devices anymore. Image: http://i.imgur.com/tKTeQL2.png Restarting
pulseaudio don't help.

I sent a mail to Pulseaudio mailing list, and a developer / co-maintainer is
able to reproduce this bug :).
Fortunately, I now tried this myself, and I'm able to reproduce the bug.
I wonder why this bug hasn't been noticed earlier, since this is a
really basic thing... I'll debug this on my own

With alsa-hda-dkms 0.201303071550~quantal1 installed, all output devices still
gone after restart.
Did early patch with hda-jack-retask again, 0x1e - spdif out and 0x11 - n/a.

I sent a email to alsa-devel, but i wish to say that the volume reset
bug seems to be a problem across many soundcards NOT only Realtek. Tried
Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, 13.04 alpha live cds on my and dad's computer. With
Asus Xonar Essence STX i get same volume reset bug shown here:
