Hi, while helping someone else with this very same issue I found this post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1834478
Can someone test with realtek's latest driver and confirm if that works?
Then it would be a matter of asking for this driver to be available via
the hardware drivers tools,
Direct link to the driver:

Looks like a driver issue. I sanitized the instructions from several
sources, the person I was helping reported apparent initial success with
the Realtek driver built+installed manually:
1) Make sure the system is up to date and development tools are installed:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get
Looking at
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=lucid
it seems 3.5.6 series are being uploaded by Rico. @Christopher, can you
confirm that would be the person to ask?
I thought the LibreOffice PPA was maintained by Canonical, so who would
then be responsible for it?
I am unable to test this hardware as I don't have access to it anymore
and I am not in Haiti (and won't in the short term). I hope other
subscribers can help test the proposed workarounds and ensuing solution
(if any).
