If I press XF86Calculator button, the calculator application doesn’t
start. In /var/log/syslog I can find lines like this:

unity-settings-[1785]: Could not find application 'gcalctool.desktop' or
'gnome-calculator.desktop'

If brlapi raises a brlapi.OperationError and I want to print this error
I get an TypeError, because the __str__ method returns the message as
bytes, not as string.
