I have only noticed this problem with the release of 11.10
Now the grid lines that distinguishes the boxes is almost the same as the lines
between the squares.
Also the background on the start numbers is very dominating and difficult to
look past.
But there appears to be no way of adjusting the
Dell D505 latitude still crashes in ubuntu 14.04 when I close the lid.
Selecting suspend from the menu works fine however.

I don't know Raymond. I just booted from ubuntu-12.04.5-desktop-
amd64.iso, played a music file, opened alsamixer, and discovered that;
changing Master M volume independently changed the internal speaker
volume. In 14.04 Master M is muted by default, unmuting and raising the
volume has no effect.

This affects me too - Ubuntu MATE 20.04, Lenovo T495 (so AMD
graphics/amdgpu).
Boots fine with power supply connected, but running from battery, laptop
POSTs ok, displays grub, displays boot msgs but then screen goes blank.
Happy to provide logs if you let me know what you need, I can SSH into
I've managed to get the system to boot when not plugged into mains by
adding 'iommu=soft' to the linux line in grub.
Not sure at what cost but at least I don't lose my display info like
when nomodeset is used.

get gradually increasing CPU usage the longer I have the program open.

In the preferences section in CCSM I set the Backend to Flat-File
Configuration Backend. This caused my CCSM settings and keyboard
shortcuts to be persistent. You'll have to do a unity --replace for the

font used, as not all fonts suffer from the problem.
Note that all the fonts (I have tried so far) do kern correctly in the

Constant _ip6_config_add_nameserver: assertion `IN6_ARE_ADDR_EQUAL
(nameserver, nameservers[i]) == FALSE' failed
Won't fix is from upstream. Their version, from which the Ubuntu
version is derived, doesn't show the bug, so the upstream maintainers
won't be fixing it themselves.
So far although rated high in importance the bug isn't assigned to
anyone involved in Ubuntu to fix.

I have set my Brightness and Lock settings such that it will lock the
screen after Screen turns off. Then in my power settings, I have the
lid closed action to Do Nothing, which turns the screen off when the
lid is
I've just tested this on a third laptop which was built using the 32 bit
version of 12.04, fully updated, but without encrypted home - same
behaviour, so I suspect that the encrypted home is irrelevant in this
bug.

Thanks Sebastian - the gnome bug tracker is a perfect replica of the
issue I'm describing here. Great news and I'll test again when I do an
update tomorrow.

Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu.
Just noting that as of gnome-settings-daemon version 3.3.92-0ubuntu2,
this bug is still apparent. Lock is set, close lid, screen turns off,
open lid, normal desktop appears.
Do I change the status back to confirmed?

This is fixed on the Toshiba actually, but I was originally testing on
the Chronos laptop, which remains broken. The only two obvious
differences between the two laptops is the Chronos has an ATI card,
using the fglrx drivers (from hardware drivers), and also sports a
backlit keyboard.
I notice
I'm experiencing the same thing as Brett in the unity 3d session. I have
my systray-whitelist key also set to all but it also has an entry for
desura. Anyway if I set this key back to the default setting, logout
and log back in, the power indicator works as normal and the duplicate
battery icon is
