Just to clarify this. The reported bug is the same I'm listing now, but updated to the package tex-common 6.04 with the next message, after an upgrade to Ubuntu 16 from Ubuntu 14: "package tex-common 6.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error

As requested, just ran 'apport-collect 1792702' on my system - sorry, didn't notice the comment about creating an own bug. This is a fresh install of 18.04.01, with all (two) gnome-shell extensions disabled. The syslog rolled at 585M yesterday and is now at 33G - all that growth happening
