Firefox used to offer accessing bookmarks from the bookmarks menu [alt-b]
directly using type-ahead search.
This feature seems to be broken in the global-app-menu integration
reproduce:

* add bookmarks
* hit [alt-b]
* hit any character

gksudo gnome-control-center shows the mirror image option to be turned
off, turning it on and off again as root does not change anything.
starting gnome-control-center in user mode still defaults to mirror
image and flips back to on on any attempt to switch it off.

I see what you mean, it seems true that firefox (suddenly?) adheres to
the documentation (and hasn't done so in the past?).
So in future we have to keep in mind that
$firefox -private
does not open a private window (anymore!) if another instance of firefox is
already
So mate used to be great but doesn't seem to be a solution anymore
either, type-ahead-find seemingly has been replaced for search-as-you-
type in mate sometimes this summer as well, too.
+1 for replacement, it could at least be a configuration option

Thanks Olivier, for the additional reference to the documentation.
This, however, is not the described problem.
The observed bug is that calling firefox from bash with the option
"-private" does open firefox, but not in private mode.

Fwiw, I don't see how this would be a support request or spam ("changed
to invalid"), it looks like a bug in the sense of a piece of software

I could imagine that you'll get several other bug reports where people
do not see how the underlying problem relates to "Cannot run chromium as
user www-data because home directory is
+1 we're willing to pledge €500 (upon invoice) if either snap is
repaired or standard packages managed through a system that isn't broken
(dpkg/apt).

14.04 LTS Desktop 64-bit. A 180-pages print job with some colored
screenshots (Samsung TV manual) needs 2-3 hours on Ubuntu but only 13
