I don't think this should be marked as a duplicate of bug #1164016.
That bug was successfully fixed, but this one is a new regression that
requires a different patch. Since #1164016 is marked as Fix Released, a
new bug should be opened for this new regression.

It sounds like someone has contributed a working and maintained patch
that has not yet been merged.
Someone even created a new PPA just for this patch, but obviously this
