[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1632027] Re: New Document feature missing from Nautilus 3.20+

2018-05-06 Thread
According to the upstream developer the feature *does* exist, but has a
prerequisite requirement that the user's template folder must have at
least one template file in order to make the "New Document" submenu
appear.

The upstream report has been updated to make Files preserve the same
behavior as with the previous implementation in Ubuntu.

2018-05-06 Thread
I have filed the bug to GNOME upstream:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/407

Unfortunately currently Launchpad doesn't support GitLab issues so it
can't be directly linked to this bug report.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641264] Re: libreoffice crashes on startup when using OpenGL rendering and proprietary nvidia driver.

2017-05-25 Thread
This problem can be reproduced on KDE Neon(Ubuntu 16.04) with current
latest release(5.3.3.2) on ASUS S550C laptop:

```
server glx version string: 1.4
client glx version string: 1.4
GLX version: 1.4
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 375.39
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.50 NVIDIA
OpenGL version string: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 375.39
OpenGL shading language version string: 4.50 NVIDIA
OpenGL ES profile version string: OpenGL ES 3.2 NVIDIA 375.39
OpenGL ES profile shading language version string: OpenGL ES GLSL ES 3.20
GL_EXT_shader_implicit_conversions, GL_EXT_shader_integer_mix,
```

At the same time using intel graphics(the laptop has both) LibreOffice
is launchable (although buggy)

Bug description:
  I noticed that Libreoffice was rendering very slow (I can see each
  menu option drawn) so I tried using OpenGL rendering, which causes
  libreoffice to crash immediately on start-up.

  I confirm that OpenGL is working fine:

  name of display: :0.0
  display: :0  screen: 0
  direct rendering: Yes
  server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
  server glx version string: 1.4

  I'm able to use glxgears and other apps like djv_view with fast
  rendering.

  I've attached the gdb trace resulting from the crash with debug
  symbols, following is an except:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1592678] Re: gnome-software starts very early in the session, slowing down boot

2017-02-17 Thread
Maybe the wrong place to ask, but why does the `fwupd` process has to
stay in background (IMO) all the time?

``
$ ps aux | grep fwupd
root  3260  0.3  0.4 694272 32924 ?Sl   00:35   0:01
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/fwupd/fwupd
``

All fwupd*.service unit are claimed by `systemctl status` as "inactive
(dead)"

```
$ systemctl status fwupd.service
● fwupd.service - Firmware update daemon
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/fwupd.service; static; vendor preset:
enabled)
  There should be no reason at all to start it that early. Checking for
  updates can be delayed for a few minutes, or preferably the check for
  existing apt cron job/update-motd stamps for "updates available"
  exists.
Update Workaround in #2 (again), the proper way to deal with it is to
create a blank file with the same name under /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d
, in command-line:
```
# touch /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf
```
Update Workaround in #2, in fact you need to remove
/usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf instead.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638842] Re: network-manager does not manage ethernet and bluetooth interfaces when Ubuntu 16.10 is installed using chroot/netboot method
2016-11-03 Thread
Hi, I believe I have the same issue, however there's differences that
you installed Ubuntu 16.10 using chroot, while I installed Ubuntu 16.10
using netboot(and then tasksel ubuntu-desktop), here are the
investigation results:
## Possible Cause ##
The problem seems to be lies on the new override config introduced in 16.10:
```
  * debian/10-globally-managed-devices.conf: ship a default config to
explicitly unmanage anything that is not wifi or wwan: we definitely want
NM to manage wifi and mobile data; and probably don't want it to touch
wired in many cases.
```
which is installed at /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-
managed-devices.conf , with the following content:
```
[keyfile]
unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:wifi,except:type:wwan
```
that unmanages all network interfaces except wifi and wwan, thus
bluetooth interface in your case and ethernet case in my case are all
unmanaged by default.
According to the future changelog by Martin Pitt:
```
  * network-manager.postinst: Don't create
/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf override on
new installations. We don't want NM to manage non-wifi/wwan on
servers/cloud instances, and for desktops live-build now installs a
netplan policy snippet to let NM handle all devices.
```
This is designed to not let NM manage those interfaces except in a
desktop edition(possibly because servers normally uses the ifupdown
mechanism to manage networking), what I'm confused is:
* Why there's the need to do so when ifupdown NM plugin already provides the
ability to unmanages the network interfaces that have settings in
/etc/network/interfaces?
* Why the config still working after user installs *ubuntu-desktop, rendering
those network-interfaces unmanaged even when it is clearly not for server/cloud
usage?
## Workaround ##
Remove /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf, it works(TM)
  cd ~/Desktop  wget -c
  Select All→Format→Paragraph→Indents  Spacing→Line
  spacing set to Proportional of 75% is that the spacing between lines is
set to 75% of single line spacing as noted in:
  4) What happens instead is that some lines are cropped horizontally at
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 845246] Re: When printing in reverse, swaps even/odd if # pages is even
2011-11-01 Thread
I found this bug too in a 11 pages PDF, though...
Title:
  When printing in reverse, swaps even/odd if # pages is even
Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  The print engine prints the wrong pages if printing an even/odd subset
  in reverse order, if the total number of pages is even.  I suspect
  that the reverse is causing it to first reorder the pages and then
  internally number them, which has the effect of swapping the even/odd
  parity if the total number is even.
  Steps to repro:
  Load into evince a document with an even number of pages (e.g. attached)
  Ctrl-P to print
  Click the Reverse checkbox
  Click Page setup tab
  From Only print pulldown, choose Even sheets
  Click Print
  Printer will print pages 3 and 1 in that order.
  Choosing Odd sheets will yield pages 4 and 2.  Following the same
  steps with a similar document of three pages will (correctly) get page
  2 for the Even sheets and pages 3 and 1 for Odd sheets.
  This is a problem because the natural way to print double-sided with a
  non-duplex printer is to print the evens in reverse order, then refeed
  the stack and print the odds in the correct order.  (So page 2 is the
  last page printed in the first batch, and its back, page 1, is the
  first page in the second batch.)  Following that algorithm with this
  bug in place gives you all the even sides twice.
  I am on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty.
