[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1068605] Re: List of session type does not fit on screen with many window managers installed

2014-04-22 Thread Alex Bachmeier
This problem also exists on the gdm in trusty. And kdm is also broken.
There is no way for me to deploy 14.04 with this bug in my computer lab.

Title:
List of session type does not fit on screen with many window managers
  installed

Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Please see the attached screenshot. The system has many window
managers installed because it is a public lab machine with a many
users that have different preferences. In order to change the session,
one is supposed to confirm his selection by pressing the button at the
bottem. However, the button hardly fits on the screen, in fact, one
has to guess the purpose of the lowest button.

On option would be to have the list of managers in a scroll box.

  ---
  Desired resolution:

  - Vertically middle align the desktop environment switcher with the
back button when there are more than 6 desktop environments in the
  menu.

2013-05-07 Thread Alex Bachmeier
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1041790 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041790

Looking at the other comments, my case might be a different one, since
my system doesn't hang/crash. I experience slow downs after the crash.
So it might indeed be a different bug in my case. For some reason I
didn't find the duplicate bug.

I can confirm this on multiple desktop machines, fully updated raring
installs. All have Intel Graphics. I will grab a dmesg in a minute.

2013-03-18 Thread Alex Bachmeier
I'm nut sure if I'm looking at exactly the same bug, since in my case the
displays stay black, no output what so ever.
The displays are all connected to the digital output.
I'm including the dmesg of one of my machines with drm debug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 870297] Re: Lightdm logins not being logged in wtmp

2012-04-18 Thread Alex Bachmeier
I'm running precise in a computer lab, so maybe I can shed some light on your
theory:
We have roughly 10 different desktop environments installed
current statistics:

host 1: gnome-session --session=buntu, no user in w
host 2: gnome-session --session=ubuntu, no user in w
host 3: gnome-session --session=ubuntu, no user in w
host 4: gnome-session --session=ubuntu, no user in w
host 5: gnome-session --session=gnome-classic, no user in w
host 6: gnome-session --session=ubuntu, user shows up in w
host 7: gnome-session --session=ubuntu, user shows up in w

In the two cases where the user shows up, both users have a gnome-
terminal open.

Mounting the /var/lib/AccountsService directory through nfs from an
external server might help get around this issue. I will see if this
works.
