[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1461645] Re: [Ubuntu 15.10 64bit] Nouveau problems with ( google-chrome-unstable )

2015-09-06 Thread Amit Kucheria
This hits me on 14.04 as well with an updated google-chrome. So perhaps
this is a google-chrome bug?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2015-01-28 Thread Amit Kucheria
I think bug 1363217 might be related. I'm seeing this on 14.04 too

** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu Precise)

Title:
nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

Status in GVFS:
  Fix Released
Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gvfs source package in Precise:
  Confirmed
Status in gvfs source package in Raring:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Impact:
copies from/to samba share often end up hanging

  Test case:
  - visit a smb location in nautilus
  - copies data from/to it (some non trivial directories makes the issues
easier to trigger)
  - the copy should complete without hanging

  Regression potentiel:
Check that nautilus is still working correctly and than you don't have issues
copying data from/to remote locations

  ---

  Problem
  ===
Copying files to and from samba shares (this includes Windows shares) is
unreliable in Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 13.04 when using nautilus' integrated
samba client (gvfs-smb): The copy randomly hangs after a few files or a few GB.

  Workaround
  ==
Until gvfs-smb is fixed, use the kernel samba client (cifs) that works
reliably, is faster, but needs some terminal commands to get going:
  # sudo -s
  # mkdir /mnt/cifs
  # mount -t cifs -o user=YOUR_SAMBA_USER -o uid=YOUR_LINUX_USER
//SAMBA_SERVER/SAMBA_SHARE /mnt/cifs
It will ask for you password, you can then access the shared files at
/mnt/cifs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1337942] [NEW] unity doesn't remember scaling factor (text, menu, titlebar)

2014-07-04 Thread Amit Kucheria
Public bug reported:

Please find attached a screenshot of the ideal scaling factor requiity
red for my HiDPI laptop screen to be useable.

In the Displays, setting I've set menu and titlebars to be scaled by 1.75 to
get large enough buttons.
In the Ubuntu-Tweak-Tool, I've set the text scaling factor to 1.2 to make
application menu fonts readable.

Unity seems to forget these and uses some random values after a restart.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1154431] Re: Unity doesn't start up

2013-03-18 Thread Amit Kucheria
On 13 Mar 17, Rafal Cieślak wrote:
I am affected by a bug which looks just as this one, and appeared in in
apparently the same version of unity package, yet I can't tell if it's
indeed the same - for I am using AMD graphics. If this is the same bug,
 I might provide additional information.

Can you please share your output when running `unity`? In my case it
complains - among many warnings and other info - that plugin 'opengl'
failed to load. This seems to be a significant clue.

Uninstalling the nvidia binary drivers and sticking with nouveau along with
re-enabling the unity plugin from CCSM made unity reappear. Try to check if
the unity plugin in enabled first.

However, the nouveau driver has a whole new set of regressions. So the
desktop is pretty broken on 'R' currently.

Oh, and if you do run the PPA, I'd like to see your Xorg.0.log,
regardless of whether it worked or not, so I can verify the error code
 being passed up.

Please find my Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old attached. I see Xorg win
sometimes (1 out of 5 reboots?).

X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

Status in “libdrm” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
X server fails to start the first time after boot, it works fine when
  I start it again.

Looks like a race condition with intel drm initialization, i guess X
tries to start faster than drm driver is initialized so it fails.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1115177] [NEW] X fails to start

2013-02-04 Thread Amit Kucheria
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of 13.04 dev on this desktop machine with an Nvidia
graphics.

Nouveau only shows the system is running in low-graphics mode dialog and
doesn't allow reconfiguring.
Nvidia-current drivers give a desktop but X crashes very often.

12.04 worked just fine on this setup. So I consider this a regression.
