Bug description:
Using ubuntu 20.04 on displaylink docking with external monitor is
totally slow, unusable. The GUI responds very slow, if you click, the
command of the click goes on after about 3 seconds... if you type, all
the letters are with the same lag, so it is totally unusable.

Was using displaylink without any problem on 19.10 until yesterday, when I
upgraded to 20.04.
  It is terrific.

If i plug out the usb for the displaylink docking station, than the
speed is back, and the system is ok, if I connect it to the docking
station again, everything extremely slow again.

Please investigate this asap, as it is unusable on displaylink docking
  stations.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1780677] Re: X session crash after resuming from suspend

2020-05-03 Thread Abou anas
I really appreciate how this community is seriously working and I don't
want to offend anyone but the importance of this bug is clearly very
high because you have to imagine that after running a Matlab script for
several hours or working on a long document or having a scientific flow
of work then you have a pause for some time then you go back to work to
discover that either the computer is suspended or your monitor is
"asleep" and by pushing a key on the keyboard there is a complete weird
pixelized colorful screen !!! You are forced to perform a "forced
shutdown" by moving back to terminal ctrl+alt+F3 in my case then 'sudo
shutdown' or by pushing the shutdown button in worst scenarios. So this
bug is really annoying and even with ubuntu 20.04, I'm still having the
same problem.

I hope someone will get interested to give us a solution. The screen is
acting really weird after suspend or after the monitor goes off and when
you try to log in you will see the picture attached to this message.

Thank you

Title:
X session crash after resuming from suspend

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  Release: 18.04

  xorg:
Installed: 1:7.7+19ubuntu7

First I suspended my laptop, while a few applications were running
(Firefox, Chrome and some others much smaller). A couple of hours
later, I opened the lid and expected the Gnome session would resume.

What happened instead was a crash of the X server, then the login page
was shown again and a new Gnome session started: the old session got
  killed!

In the Xorg.0.log.old file I found this, not sure if related:

  [ 21189.337] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Deleting GPU-0
  [ 21189.338] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Input/output error
  [ 21189.338] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Input/output error
  [ 21189.338] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_ACTIVATE failed: Input/output error
[ 21189.338] (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1419339] Re: Terminal input offset incorrect after output with no trailing newline and then cycling up through commands

2015-02-11 Thread Anas
Thanks, both those methods work for me.

On 11 February 2015 at 00:52, Egmont Koblinger egm...@gmail.com wrote:

 Simple version:
 export PROMPT_COMMAND='printf %*s\r\e[K $COLUMNS'

More complex version with an inverse exclamation mark:
 export PROMPT_COMMAND='printf \e[7m!\e[0m%*s\r\e[K $((COLUMNS-1))'

 Title:
Terminal input offset incorrect after output with no trailing newline
and then cycling up through commands

Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
   New

 Bug description:
   Steps to recreate problem:

   1. Run a very long command, the command should be wider than the
terminal width so it wraps round to the next line. For this example,
run a long echo command, such as:

echo joi fowiejf fsweiofj woifj weiof weif wioejf weif woifjw ofwioe
   fdwiojf wfw

 fiowejfeddjj
fjwepf fweijf fwekfnwe fwef wefw efe fewf wef wef

   2. Run program that outputs to stdout without a trailing newline, e.g.

   printf oiwjgoiwgoiwoiawbn

So your terminal should look like:
   oiwjgoiwgoiwoiawbnusername@pcname:~$

   3. Use the up arrow key to go back to the long command you entered

   4. Press the home button. The cursor goes to the wrong location,
behind the start of the actual command and the start of where the
command would be had it not been for the printf command.

Then move the cursor to just before the echo statement, and type less
to change echo to lessecho (a version of echo which expands meta
characters). You should notice what the problem is now, the location
your cursor appears to be at is not the actual location in the
command, but where it would be if the printf command had not just been
   run.

This is annoying because it can cause you to incorrectly modify old
 commands.

You should notice what the problem is now, the location
your cursor appears to be at is not the actual location in the
command, but where it would be if the printf command had not just been
  run.

This is annoying because it can cause you to incorrectly modify old commands.

[xubuntu] chromium redraw issue after switching workspaces

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I switch between workspaces in xubuntu, the chromium windows more
often than not are only partially visible or else completely
transparent. Moving the window (hold alt and drag) does not always fix
the issue, but resizing always does. I've taken a video I will attach
  to the bug.

Expected: See the chromium window and tabs I have open.
Actual: Window is invisible or partially invisible. See attached video.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 978604] Re: Banshee/Rhythmbox regularly stop playing audio when left on in the background

2015-01-20 Thread Anas
I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 14.04, banshee. syslog shows:

pulseaudio[1769]: [alsa-sink-ALC272 Analog] ratelimit.c: 206 events suppressed
pulseaudio[1769]: [alsa-sink-ALC272 Analog] protocol-native.c: Failed to push

Title:
Banshee/Rhythmbox regularly stop playing audio when left on in the
  background

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio source package in Precise:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If Banshee or Rhythmbox is left playing in the background they will
randomly stop playing in the latest builds of Ubuntu 12.04. Starting a
new piece of music usually fixes the problem. If left to its own
devices, the music will start playing again at some random time, at
some random position. This problem exists on both my desktop machine
(custom built Intel machine) and my laptop (Macbook 5,1). It has been
  happening for several months now.

I became frustrated enough to load up pulseaudio in debugging mode.
The log shows that when the music player just finishes playing one
piece, and tries to start the next piece, you see something like this:

K. The time I reported this, they didn't, as far as I remember, which I feel is
correct as the seek bar in the window and the one in these separate controls
display different duration.
Today, two different things happened:
1 They do work with the video getting re-sized but without any borders or
controls attached around it with only these controls remaining from the full
screen and the seek bar displaying the correct duration.
2 The video re-sized with no controls at all. (Attached)

It does not happen every time.
It's kinda tricky. I don't know how it happened the first time, but now, I go
full screen, Alt+Tab to Chrome (v 18.0.1025.168), and drag the title bar down...

It surely has something to do with Chrome. When I run VLC in full screen
and Alt+Tab to a sized window of Chrome and choose maximize it does
happen but in kinda background and VLC (still full screen) becomes the
active window again...

'Is the bug going away if you move a dialog over the area of the
background?' No.
