[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1320286] Re: On LTSP thick client gnome-settings-daemon gets loaded before unity-settings-daemon

2016-04-12 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Two years and it's undecided and unassigned? Does no one use LTSP
anymore? We're experiencing this issue on a freshly installed and fully
updated 14.04 with a 64-bit LTSP image. Something tells me that the same
problem will probably persist even in 16.04...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1057186] Re: Modem functionality of the Huawei E173 and E3131 doesn't work

2014-12-25 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Thank you, Danillo. This was the only thing that worked for me on Ubuntu
14.04 and Mint.

Yes, the bug is still happening in saucy and trusty. Haven't tested
utopic yet but I bet it's the same there because every bug I have found
on this topic has been marked as allegedly resolved or expired despite
people commenting that it's still broken. This isn't just Huawei
devices, it's ANY modem that spawns multiple /dev/ttyUSB interfaces -
Sierra devices, for instance. Why can't at least an option be added to
manually choose the correct port? Fedora Network Manager apparently has
that, as indicated by Huawei's installation manual, and it's a very
simple solution. Either way, it's unacceptable that this bug exists for
so long and is ignored, forcing people to resort to wvdial or to buy
another modem. Here is a list of related bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504035

Can something please be done about it?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2014-11-06 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
@Loris: perhaps something can be done about the touchpad drivers instead
to work around this while nVIDIA is working on the fix - if at all.
There is no such thing as Optimus for desktops (sadly) and all they had
to do is take any laptop with hybrid graphics and install Ubuntu to
test.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2014-09-23 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
I don't think that switching to Intel graphics can be called a fix (even
a temporary one) and isn't available for owners of many laptops that do
not support nVIDIA Optimus. You are simply disabling the nVIDIA card
this way and with it, all the advantages that it brings (higher graphics
performance). This should be done anyhow if your laptop is Optimus-
enabled and you don't need the dedicated GPU's performance. You can also
install prime-indicator package from ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 to
switch quicker - it's not as good as automatic on-the-fly switching on
Windows but it does its job.

However, a real solution has to be found which will let us use the
nVIDIA cards with official nVIDIA driver (not the buggy and
underperforming noveau) without this freezing. I don't mean to devalue
Sebastian's advice, since it can indeed help many people who aren't
interested in using dedicated graphics, but I want to make it pretty
clear that this is not a fix or even a workaround, since it switches the
graphics card completely.

2014-09-12 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Highly sporadic? I beg to differ. It can be reproduced easily after
switching to the nVIDIA card and if you want to accelerate the rate at
which it manifests, just play some Civilization V :) Still - I am very
happy to hear that nVIDIA is watching the bug somewhat, hopefully the
solution will be found at some point (and not just for Utopic but also
at least for Trusty which is the latest LTS release)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2014-08-20 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Exactly the same issue on Asus N550JV laptop (hybrid graphics: Intel HD
4600/nVIDIA GT 750M), fresh install of 14.04, nvidia-331. Random lockups
when using nVIDIA card, no lockups at all when using Intel. Lockups
happen more often when nVIDIA card is under load (for example, playing
Civilization V).

I have recently, re-installed fresh ubuntu 13.10 distribution release. But
everything worked fine. until recently i had strange problem of my display
screen getting freezed randomly; but no response to either mouse/keyboard.
But i want to point it out; it happens randomly and is not specific ?
Other day, i had music player playing in background, but screen freezed. but
my music was still running.
Kindly note, i used multiple monitor setup and same issue of screen freeze
also cropped up.
