[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1895135] Re: GFS Didot Classic Wrong Glyphs in Writer

2020-09-11 Thread Beluga
Lubuntu needs to switch away from defaulting to qt5. According to
LibreOffice developers, "using plain "qt5" VCL plugin in production is
something we don't recommend". Even the readme says it's "under
construction": https://docs.libreoffice.org/vcl.html

Libreoffice writer adds blank pages on multiple inputs

Status in LibreOffice:
  Incomplete
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I have multiple .txt files on the command line and start
libreoffice writer, it adds (many) blank pages to the documents.
These blanks contain nothing at all and I have not figured out how to
remove them. But they are included when I print them.

I'm attaching a file on which this happens. It contains an anonymized
fragment of the original, repeates a number of times. I suggest you
create two copies, called perhaps junk1.txt and junk2.txt.

I use the command "soffice junk*" to load them into the writer, and I
  get the extra blank pages.

If, however, I just do soffice junk1.txt, I get a document of the
  correct size.

I can do that of course, but it is still an annoying and inconvenient
  error for my workflow.

  ---

One hint to debugging: if I do this:

  for i in junk1.txt junk2.txt
  do
soffice $i &
  done

I see the problem. If, however, I introduce a delay the problem does
  not appear. Like so:

  for i in junk1.txt junk2.txt
  do
sleep 2
soffice $i &
  done

  Indeed with version 11.0.3+4-1ubuntu1:

  java.vendor = Oracle Corporation

  And with version 11.0.3+4-2ubuntu1:

  $ java -XshowSettings -version 2>&1 | grep "java.vendor "

Looking at the code in Libreoffice that looks for a JVM, it validates

Pressing undo in Writer removes text but not formatting

Status in LibreOffice:

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
To reproduce this bug, follow these steps:

  1) Create two paragraphs of text, one with font size 14 and the other with
size 18.
  2) Copy some text from the first paragraph to the end of the second paragraph
using Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V.
  3) Now press immediately Ctrl-Z for undo.
  4) While the cursor is still at the end of the second paragraph, type some
new text.

As a user, I would expect the new text to have font size 18, since
that’s the size of the text just before the cursor. However, as it
appears, the new text gets font size 14 because of the text that was
copied from the first paragraph. Thus it seems that Ctrl-Z did not
undo the whole copy operation but instead just removed the copied text
  and left its formatting.

In the original demo file from 2011? Then change the sound or do it from
scratch. Then it works for me.

I see you chose "Random effects". Maybe it can be considered a separate
bug (I repro), but please try with "Appear" or any other effect besides
the random.

I also repro this on Windows with 6.2.0, so it is not related to this
bug or bug fix.

Mark: thanks a lot for working on this oldie.

I now hear a sound, but it is a very short one. Does it stop after the
0.3 seconds? The duration of the animation has no effect on this.

Title:
[upstream] EDITING: Background Color button from Table toolbar should
change cell background instead of paragraph background

Status in LibreOffice:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
 1. Launch LibreOffice Writer
 2. Insert table to the new document (Table -> Insert -> Table)
 3. Write some multirow text in table cells
 4. Try to change cell background:
4.1. place cursor on desired cell
4.2. select color from palette from "Background Color" drop-down
(located on Table toolbar).
4.3. click "Background Color" button on Table toolbar.

  Expected results:
background color of TABLE CELL (where cursor was) is changed to desired
color.

  Actual results:
background color of TEXT PARAGRAPH (where cursor was) is changed to
desired color.

  Workaround:
There is slow non-intuitive background - select whole cell, select color
from palette from "Background Color" drop-down (located on Table toolbar),
click "Background Color" button on Table toolbar.

  Affected versions:
 LibreOffice 3.5.7.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:2) = pre-installed Ubuntu
12.04.5 LTS version;
 LibreOffice 4.2.7.2 Build ID: 420m0(Build:2) = pre-installed Ubuntu
14.04.2 LTS version;
 LibreOffice 4.4.2.2 Build ID: 40m0(Build:2) = pre-installed Ubuntu 15.04
version.

  Comment:
I can't believe how this bug is possible. It is inherited from OO.org (I
saw it on OO.org 3.2 in Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS too).
Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007 of course have normal behaviour with cell
background.
I attached pdf document with screenshots.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 823155]

This is not true. If you create a custom animation with a sound effect from the
LibO gallery *on Linux*, it will not work at any point. You don't have to save,
you don't have to move the file - it just won't work. I can reproduce this from
scratch on Arch Linux with 5.2.3 / 5.3 and Ubuntu with 5.2.3. Same for version
3.6.7.2 on Arch.
On Windows it works perfectly.

Title:
Diacritical marks become visible only after changing view in Writer

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Arabic is sometimes written with diacritical vowel marks, which are
placed either above or below each letter of the word. Many
multipurpose fonts, which are not designed specifically for Arabic,
place some of these marks in the empty space between lines, outside of
the space reserved for line height. Writing Arabic in LibreOffice
Writer, these marks don't become visible while typing but only after
the page view has changed once.

See the attached series of screenshots, where the first screenshot has
been taken while typing. The first letter of the first word (reading
from right to left) should have two diacritical marks: ء and a
diagonal line above the letter: أَ. Only the lower half of the ء mark
is visible and the diagonal line not at all. The second letter of the
same word has a circle on top of it but only the lower half of it is
visible. Equally so for the third word of the sentence بِبَرْنَامِجِ,
where the last letter of the word has a diagonal line below, but it is
not visible at all. The second screenshot has been taken after I
scrolled the page down by a couple of screens and then scrolled back.
Now all the diacritics are shown as they should. In the third
screenshot I have deleted all of the text I typed but as you can see,
some parts of the diacritics are still visible above the line. If I
scroll down and back, they would disappear. If you want to test it
  yourself, the sentence I wrote reads "أَكْتُبُ هُنَا بِبَرْنَامِجِ
  لِيبَرْ أُفِيسْ".

As a user, I would expect the diacritics to be visible as soon as I
type them, and for them to be removed from the screen immediately when
  I delete the word.

Title:
Arabic text gets deformed when creating a PDF in LibreOffice Writer

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Creating a PDF from a document written in the Arabic script deforms
the textual content of the document, although it looks fine on the
  screen.

For example, see the attached PDF created with Writer, where the
example sentence "اشترى بلال خمسة آلاف كتاب وَأَنَا اشْتَرَيْتُهَا
مِنْهُ" looks as it should, but when you view it with any PDF reader,
such as evince, copying the text deforms most of the words. Some
characters are clearly visible but cannot be selected or searched
(such as ى at the end of the first word اشترى). If I search for the
second word بلال, evince tells me there are no matches in the
document. The same happens when converting the file with pdftotext,
  which produces the following output:

  ‫اشتر‬

  ‫للا مسة لفا كتاب وَأَنَا ْ‬
  ‫ه‬
  ‫اشت َ َريْتُهَا ِ‬
  ‫من ْ ُ‬

Here only two of the seven words are intact, the rest are garbled in
one way or another. If the text is in Latin script, both evince and
pdftotext behave as expected, meaning that the textual content is
transferred correctly from Writer to the PDF.

Title:
Default directory for my documents is not xdg-user-dir DOCUMENTS

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The default working dir is hard coded to ~/Documents
I had to redo my saved work, because I have assumed it was lost in ~/Dokumente

I have now fixed this by changing the working directory manually.

The default working dir should be changed to "xdg-user-dir DOCUMENTS"
that other users so not suffer the same.

I have updated from Xenial and never experienced these issues. Is it a
  kind of regression?

  libreoffice 1:6.0.3-0ubuntu1

I'm filing a fresh report since the search turned up stuff from 2007. I'm
reporting the version of OOO Draw as 3.1.1, and Inkscape is 0.47.
A "binary tree" drawing, exported to ODG, has several problems:
 - of the 7 circles in the picture, only one shows. This could be a
problem with clones? Only the "original" shows and all the copies are missing.
 - the circle that is drawn has the wrong outline (stroke) width
 - the lines I drew are also the wrong stroke width
 - the lines are missing the arrow heads or other start/end markers

and less critical, it didn't set the page size and drawing position.

It seems that the SVG importer into Draw isn't working well either.
It worked better on a slightly older version of Inkscape, so I wonder
if there are changes in the way it writes things.

able to grab the scroll button and scroll the palette to the blue
shades. I selected a fill color for the box. I then moved back to the
drawing area to resize the box. I was unable to deselect by clicking
elsewhere on the screen. I could not select any of the tools. It was
as if the scrolling of the palette could not release focus back to the
drawing area. I could not select a different color fill. The only
thing I could do was scroll the color palette and close the program by
clicking the X in the top menu bar.

I should have been able to scroll the color palette, select the color
fill, and return to my drawing. I was able to close the program and
reopen and continue working as normal.

Inkscape does not correctly render svg and pdf files when using
  complex filters.

Status in Inkscape:

Bug description:
  Hi!
This is the first time I can complain to Inkscape, it’s really a very good
software, useful and user-friendly. But well, all happens…

I’ve got some problem using some filters with Inkscape those times. In
Inkscape itself there is absolutely no problem: all the problems is on
exportations.
I have a guilty image which have a very different render in its output and in
Inkscape itself.
This guilty image contains mainly two elements:
— a circle, deformed by two filters in the menu deformation. I don’t
know the english names of these filters, but in French it’s « Agitation dilatée
» (dilated agitation?) and « Pourtour déchiré » (torn borders?). This one is
well rended in all format.
— a background, which is a blue square (with some stars, but they are
not important there I guess) transformed to paths to which I’ve removed a copy
of the deformed circle. This one is sometimes removed in the renderings…

To illustrate this bug, I’ve attached the following files in a compressed
file:
— 1.svg: the Inkscape’s SVG created by Inkscape. Inkscape can read it
well (I’ve taken a screenshot in screenshot1.png of what Inkscape display when
openning it.), but not eog (see screenshot2.png).
— 2.svg: the plain SVG created by Inkscape (from 1.svg). This one is
nearly (expect in the borders) well rendered by eog (screenshot3.png), and
Inkscape can read it without problem (screenshot4.png).
— 3.pdf: the pdf created by Inkscape (from 1.svg). This file is not
well rendered in Evince (screenshot5.png), it makes Xpdf crash (but maybe it’s
not Inkscape’s fault there). Inkscape doesn’t render it too (screenshot6.png).
— 4.png: the png created by Inkscape (from 1.svg).

As you can see, the background is most of the time not rendered by program
else than Inkscape, and the pdf file is not well rendered by Inkscape itself…
  I don’t know exactly what’s wrong.

  Hoping these informations will help.
  Martin.

  5) Set starting angle of the new circle to 270 and end angle to 90 degrees

  libreoffice /mnt/smb/test.odt

  3. Got "Document in Use" window with text:

Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing.

     Open Read-Only Open Copy Cancel

4a. If I click 'Open Read-Only' the document is opened in read-only.
4b. If I click 'Open Copy' the "Untitled 1" document is opened.
  4c. Cancel closes this window.

  Expected results:
The "test.odt" files is opened in read-write mode, user can edit it.

  Actual results:
User can't edit original document (see pp. 3-4 above).

This functionality is essential. Please fix this bug.

  Notes:
If I try to open document with the command 'libreoffice
smb://laptop/public/test.odt' I run into other bug (bug 1214352).
If I use Windows as SMB/CIFS server I can open and edit document from share.
Problem does not exist with SFTP(SSH)- or NFS- file-servers.
My test results are located in Google Docs/Drive Table (
http://goo.gl/jY9Ubj ).

Global Samba config (/etc/samba/smb.conf) is default.
    My useshare config is:
  cat /var/lib/samba/usershares/public
  #VERSION 2
  path=/home/norbert/Public
  comment=
  usershare_acl=S-1-1-0:F
  guest_ok=y

Title:
Can't select non-standard paper sizes for Printing

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem description:
I was trying to print a small compliments slip on a card that was 140mm x
100mm.

I set the page size under Format -> Page -> Size to user defined, and
then entered the width of 14.00cm and height of 10.00cm correctly.

However, when I came to try to print it, it would not print correctly.
The print dialog box showed the dimensions of A6 (140mm x 105mm) and I
couldn't find any way to change this. I tried to print it anyway, but
  it came out wrong.

To prove that the problem is in LibreOffice and probably not related
to the driver, I exported the file to a PDF, and was able to print it
by setting up a Custom Paper size in the printer settings dialog - an
option which LibreOffice doesn't seem to have.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a new Document
  2. From the menu, do Format -> Page
  3. From the Format dropdown, select User
  4. Enter a size that is not a standard paper size
  5. Click OK
  6. Attempt to print the document

  Current behavior:
No matter what combinations of options I tried, I was unable to change the
Printer paper size to the correct size.
If I go ahead and click Print, the output is wrong (output not aligned
correctly on the page).

  Expected behavior:
Paper size could be set by the selected Page size, or provide some way to
change the printer paper size.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1325931]

2015-01-12 Thread Beluga
Lowered version number after reproducing with:

Ubuntu 14.10 64-bit

Title:
Can't select non-standard paper sizes for Printing

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Problem description:
I was trying to print a small compliments slip on a card that was 140mm x
100mm.

I set the page size under Format - Page - Size to user defined, and
then entered the width of 14.00cm and height of 10.00cm correctly.

  2. From the menu, do Format - Page

Windows plays it, if I change it to be some other sound.

libreoffice draw / impress crash if user service publishing is
  disabled in avahi

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Fix Released
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “libreoffice” source package in Trusty:

Status in “libreoffice” package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Impress and Draw will not work (Crash) with Avahi enabled, but user/all
publishing disabled.
   * The fix is basically some check before free, and return earlier if failing.

  [Test Case]

   * Restart avahi daemon with either disable-user-service-publishing=yes or
disable-publishing=yes. This will cause the crash.
   * Patch was also tested with avahi on, making sure it publishes and with
avahi just to make sure a new bug was not introduced.

  [Regression Potential]

   * If a regression occurs it would be avahi specific and should only affect
Impress and Draw. It will be less likely to manifest in an outright crash now.
   * I was unable to test actually using a remote control. (but the avahi
service was published which is the only part my fix touches.

  [Other Info]
Avahi is NOT enabled in Upstream LibreOffice builds (so don't try to test
them for this bug) although pushing to have source fix included in 4.2.x and
4.3.x anyways
  Master Upstream fix (TB4.4):

Both loimpress and lodraw fail to start with an error message related
  to avahi:

This is the backtrace of the crash:

  3) What is expected to happen is when performs in Ubuntu 11.04
  LibreOffice Impress via the Terminal:

  cd ~/Desktop wget

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/761597/+attachment/2040634/+files/example.tar.gz
   file-roller -h example.tar.gz cd example loimpress -nologo
  prez.odp

click the picture - Insert - Picture - From File... - File name:
  DecayLength_Bs.gif - Open button

the original picture has been replaced with DecayLength_Bs.gif and the
size is the same as the original picture.

  4) What happens instead is the picture is larger than the original
  picture that was highlighted.

This is a regression of Ubuntu 10.10 OpenOffice.org Impress via the
  Terminal:

  cd ~/Desktop wget

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/761597/+attachment/2040634/+files/example.tar.gz
   file-roller -h example.tar.gz cd example soffice -impress
  -nologo prez.odp

click the picture - Insert - Picture - From File... - File name:
  DecayLength_Bs.gif - Open button

notice the original picture has been replaced with DecayLength_Bs.gif
and the size is the same as the original picture.

WORKAROUND: Copy down the location and dimensions of the original
picture, then remove it from the slide. Insert the new picture and
edit the new picture to have the same location and dimensions.
