[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1779933] Re: Unable to log in through guest network captive portal

2021-09-07 Thread Carsten Agger
I just experienced the same problem on Ubuntu 20.04 at a Best Western
hotel in London.

It's kind of a dealbreaker if you're travelling and need to work, so
would be good to have it fixed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1910908] Re: Web-login page for captive portals not opening on public wireless networks

2021-09-07 Thread Carsten Agger
I experienced this recently while staying on a hotel in London. While I
managed to get online on my Android phone, it was annoying - would be
good to see it fixed so it works out of the box.

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
On Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Focal Fossa the web page to log on to public
wireless networks does not open. Without this, it is not possible to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1262637] Re: System hangs on login immediately after logout

2014-03-07 Thread Carsten Agger
The correct thing to do would probably be to check of the problem can be
reproduced in 14.04.

Title:
System hangs on login immediately after logout

Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  We're running Ubuntu 12.04.

The bug occurs with a number of PC running a kiosk-like setup with
password-free login. The desktop is standard Unity.

  Scenario:

  * User arrives at PC in library.
  * User finds active session and wants to log out to get a fresh session.
  * User logs out
  * User *immediately* presses button to login
  * System hangs.

The system hanging is like this: Desktop icons are present, but the
launcher is gone, and the top bar with the time and command menus
(including the logout menu) is also gone.

The only way out (bar hitting the power button) is to enter CTRL-ALT-
DEL, which opens a logout dialog. You can now choose to logout, wait a
  while and login again.

It *seems* to be caused by the very swift sequence of logout + login.

It's annoying and thus a serious bug, since it's very confusing to
transient users, of which we have a lot.

2013-03-18 Thread Carsten Agger
OK, I'm beginning to think this is because of faulty hardware. Not the
proprietary graphics driver, as it's not loaded, but something else. The
computer restarted at least eight times today before I gave up!

Still, if some hardware is faulty shouldn't the OS report this rather
than reboot?
