Building on Pavel Vorobiov's comment, I'd like to add that this happens with 
any menu on the Unity panel on my system.
I propose we keep this bug report as a separate entity from the LibreOffice bug 
and changing its target package.

  Laggy and slow menus, often blocking the UI

Bug description:
  With LibreOffice in Saucy I often click on a menu and see the menu
  background appear but no text in it. This will often lock up
  LibreOffice and Unity for around 10 seconds until the menu is drawn
  and then it seems cached and works fine.
