Status in signon-ui source package in Xenial:
  In Progress
Status in signon-ui source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
This is an SRU request, based on the process documented at
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

  [Impact]

   * When declaring online accounts for use by Ubuntu, the system uses a
webview to authenticate to online services like Facebook or Google.

   * On X11 desktops, that webview currently uses an old qt5webkit
  component that is now unmaintained

   * Backporting this fix will simplify the maintenance work, by
removing the need for that old component, and will improve the
coherence of the system by using a supported Oxide webview

  [Test Case]

  To verify the change:

   * Go to system settings > Online Accounts
   * Add account of type Google, Facebook or Twitter (which uses webview for
authentication)
   * Verify that a webview opens to log onto the online service
   * Verify that the account is listed in the account list at the end of this
process
   * Verify that the related apps and services can use the online account as
before (ie Shotwell photo uploads, Photos scope, etc.)

  [Regression Potential]

   * On architectures not supported by Oxide, namely ppc64el and s390x,
the change will trigger a runtime error when trying to use that part
  of signon-ui.

   * The problem affects users of Ubuntu desktop systems based on X11.
The change is already in effect on Unity8/Mir devices for a few
  months.

  [Other Info]

   * signon-ui-x11(http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/signon-ui-x11)
  depends on libqt5webkit5

Bug description:
This bug is related to bug 1547647, even though it makes sense in any
  case.

Currently, the ApOAuthPlugin class in libaccount-plugin gets the
username from the SignonIdentity, which in turn gets it from signon-
ui, which in the current WebKit1 implementation gets it from the DOM
of the login webpage. This is a hack, it's fragile, not trivial to
port to the Oxide web engine, and possibly against some providers'
  guidelines.

We should retrieve the username using some REST API provided by the
service, and in order to do so we need to extend libaccounts-plugin
with some hooks which subclasses can use to get the username.

Once we fix this we can also get rid of the files /etc/signon-ui
/webkit-options.d/, which are conflicting with those installed by the
  KDE account plugins packages.

  SRU information
  ===

  [Impact] The same file /etc/signon-ui/webkit-
options.d/www.facebook.com.conf is installed by the account-plugin-
facebook package (used by Unity) and by kaccount-providers (used by
KDE). See this bug's duplicates to see actual bug reports.

[Test Case] Install both account-plugin-facebook and kaccount-
providers and you'll get the conflict.

[Regression Potential] Users running KDE will be completely unaffected
by this. Users running Unity might see a change when creating accounts
in System Settings->Online Accounts: with this bugfix, the account's
display name is obtained by making a REST API call to the remote
service, rather than by scrapping the DOM of the server webpages
(which is a hack, and prone to errors if the providers' webpage
changes). The new way of retrieving the username is the proper one,
and it's been tested to work reliably. In any case, the worst thing
that might happen is that accounts get created with an empty display
name, which is mostly an aesthetic problem (the display name is used
  only for UI purposes).

Title:
Allow token URL to be on a different host

Status in signon-plugin-oauth2 package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Some OAuth 2.0 providers have the token endpoint used in the web-based
authentication on a different host than the authorization endpoint (an
example is mcloud by China Mobile).

The plugin must support this use case, possibly by allowing the
TokenPath parameter to hold a full URL.

When going to the Accounts page of System Settings, and attempting to
add a Google/Twitter/etc… OAuth based account on my Nexus 4, the plug-
ins are appearing to crash, and I get sent back to the accounts list.
This appears to be due to poor network connectivity, as I'm on wifi,
but the AP is at the other end of my house, resulting in poor
connection which often drops. If I move the phone close to the AP, the
pages then load and do not seem to crash, as the connectivity is
  greatly improved.

Instead of crashing/exiting/whatever is happening, I think these plug-
ins need to show an error or something, to tell the user something is
wrong. Otherwise, it simply appears the software is very crashy.

This looks like a lot of GL errors. Does webbrowser-app itself work

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1560068] Re: Settings report incorrect Microphone device names

2016-03-21 Thread David Barth
@morphis: Is there a better API to call to get the list of "user"
visible audio inputs instead? or a well-known filter to apply to get
those. I image most apps will want that list, whereas system level
components will be the only one interested in the full extent list.

Either we're missing a proper alias in pulseaudio or webbrowser-app

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Ubuntu-webapps-bugs] [Bug 1517509] [NEW] Remove amazon as a webapp, move to simple sensible browser call

2015-11-20 Thread David Barth
The main advantage is that you can switch back to the Amazon webapp window
if one is already opened.
This is a key advantage for certain webapps, like Gmail. But for more
classic web sites, like Amazon or Ebay, the benefits are debatable.

  Shotwell, then try publishing again."

No matter how many times I try this it happens,

I start shotwell, select the pics to publish, File - Publish, login

appears. Happens everytime I do it.

Remove it from the archive completely in 15.10+ as the add-ons will be

policy will disable these anyway (Fx 42 in December), but might notify
the users of the blocked add-ons.

  Binary packages: xul-ext-unity, xul-ext-webaccounts,
xul-ext-websites-integration
  Source packages: unity-firefox-extension, webapps-greasemonkey,
webaccounts-browser-extension

These are not in Ubuntu and the only reverse depends should be removed

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1426306] Re: HERE displays Couldn't show you this place now errors

2015-02-27 Thread David Barth
Can reproduce the issue on my krillin running r17 or 18 with the standard Here
maps click.
There is nothing specific in the app logs when that happens.

It may be due to the geo-location information we send to the Here online
service which may be wrong.

For reference Jibel indicates the problem appears on rtm only, whereas
the same scenario works ok on vivid.

  - look for a place (e.g type burger and tap one of the results)
  - click on a pin on the map to get details

  - instead of having details on the location you selected it displays
a Couldn't show you this place now error, details were displayed
before (didn't try for some time so not sure when it started to return
errors), using the here.com website from the browser doesn't expose

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1362640] Re: Remove qtwebkit from touch image

2015-02-25 Thread David Barth
For reference all published webapps have been migrated to the newer framework
which uses Oxide:
- the upload of new webapp mandates the use of the Oxide-oriented frameworks
for a few months
- developers have been informed of the change on the ubuntu-phone mailing list
- developers of webapps requiring a framework upgrade have been contacted
individually and guided to upload updated click packages

Bug description:
When installing Ubuntu 14.04.1 , the default Unity launcher contains
an icon 'amazon' that links to a commercial website that sells
products ( and does not pay his tax but that's another story)

This default icon leads users to think that the Ubuntu
project/community is a trying to take people to buy goods from a
specific retailer which is really against the initial goal of the
  ubuntu project.

  How to reproduce :

  - Install Ubuntu using the default ubuntu CD 14.04.1
  - boot with the new user created
  - Observe that an amazon icon is present in the launcher.

  How to fix :

  - Remove this amazon icon in the default list of icon of the launcher.

wrongly returns the message type (text/plain) which is incorrect for

vivid. The developers in China is recommended using rtm since it is
more stable. The contest started Dec 18th last year, and it will be
ended June this year. Sina weibo is an important social network
service in China. Some developers may use it for their development for

It is strongly recommended backporting the fix to rtm.

Just launch it from the command line and send back a pastebin of the

To know exactly which parameters to use, just start it first from the

I have updated the bug title to only cover the firefox extension issue,
since Olivier wasn't able to reproduce the issue. That last one, ie the
webapp container being blank maybe due to local config files producing
errors. Can you attach the logs of the webapp while it (tries to) start?

Bug description:
Whenever the OAuth flow needs to be started on behalf of an application, we
emit a notification which, if clicked, will initiate the OAuth flos in a
separate window.
However, if the client application has its own visible window, the
authentication window could (and should, according to design) be happening as a
prompt session on top of the application.

In order to do so, we need signond to pass the PID of the client
application, and online-accounts-ui to create a prompt session for it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1171853] Re: Cannot log in to Google apps domain + Ubuntu SSO

Status in Online Accounts: Sign-on UI:

Status in “signon-ui” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “signon-ui” source package in Raring:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
I'm trying to log in to my Google apps account through the Online
Accounts dialog and so far I've been unsuccessful.

From the online accounts dialog, after the Google login page, I'm then
taken to the Ubuntu SSO page, but when I enter my SSO user name and
password, I get a blank screen with an error message that doesn't give
me any pointers as to what's happened (see attached screenshot).

I'm also attaching the output generated by invoking signon-ui from the
  command line with SSOUI_LOGGING_LEVEL=2

Additional information for the SRU request:

[Impact] Makes it impossible to create Google apps accounts linked to
  Ubuntu SSO (and possibly others).

[Test Case] Open Online Accounts, click on Add account, choose
Google, then enter your e-mail address (leave the password field
empty), and press Sign in. Follow the instructions, but if the bug
is not fixed you'll soon be presented with the error message from
comment #2. If the bug is fixed, the account creation should complete
  successfully.

[Regression Potential] The code paths touched by this patch are only
hit when a web page fails to load; we simply delay reporting the error
by 3 seconds, and cancel the error condition if in the meantime the
WebView has shown some signs of activity. So, this patch should not
affect the successful creation of other accounts, but just add a small
delay to the ones failing because of network errors.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer

2014-09-08 Thread David Barth
@Ruben: for an LTS the process requires that things be fixed upstream first
(evolution 14.10 in that case) and then backported to the stable release.
This is to avoid fixes not being carried over because they applied to an
older release.

And my thunderbird's still run ok despite of the bug.

I can confirm the bug is still there even after fresh install of ubuntu
 14.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer

2014-07-31 Thread David Barth
For people experiencing repeated authentication requests for their
google accounts, please note the following.

Regular Google accounts should not require you to login everyday. The
login authorization generally spans several weeks.

Google Apps for Business accounts, on the contrary, are designed to
check for your identity every now and then. If you are requested to
authenticate every day when you open your session, that is a requirement
set on your account by your provider (Google).

So when reporting issues, please specify whether you are using your
personal account, or a business one.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1349983] Re: GDBus.Error:com.google.code.AccountsSSO.SingleSignOn.Error.NoConnection: Host accounts.google.com not found while network available

2014-07-30 Thread David Barth
Quick feedback on the error.

1st it appears as a network error. Either because a DNS lookup failed
(accounts.google.com) or because somehow the plugin checked some
erroneous NetworkManager API telling it the network was done.

It seems you end up on line 163 in base-plugin.cpp of the OAuth2 module:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~online-accounts/signon-plugin-oauth2/trunk/view/head:/src/base-plugin.cpp#L163

And that could be due to that NetworkManager interface getting confused.

Can you verify with the nm tools and see what NM reports?

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1334722] [NEW] Add an accounts click hook

2014-06-26 Thread David Barth
Le 26/06/2014 17:24, Pete Woods a écrit :
 Public bug reported:

Click packages need to be able to add new account types just as debian
packages can. I would suggest a click manifest definition similar to
 below.

 manifest.json:
 {
  description: My Description,
  framework: ubuntu-sdk-14.10-dev2,
  architecture: all,
  hooks: {
  my-application: {
accounts: my-accounts -- this refers to the name of a dir
 in your click package
  }
  },
  icon: icon,
  maintainer: Ubuntu Developers
 ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com,
  name: com.package.name,
title: A click package providing account types,
  version: 1.0.0
 }

And then in your click package provide the directory my-accounts, following
the same structure as in /usr/share/accounts:
 my-accounts:
 ├── applications
 │ └── something.application
 ├── providers
 │ └── something.provider
 ├── qml-plugins
 │ ├── something
 │ └ Main.qml
 ├── services
 │ └── yahoo-mail.service
 └── service_types
  └── ubuntuone.service-type

Your actual click hook file could be something like this:
 Pattern: ${home}/.local/share/accounts/${id}
 User-Level: yes
 Hook-Name: accounts

You'd obviously need to monitor ~/.local/share/accounts/. In there the
click machinery will create symlinks to the directories specified above.

Any click packaging would satisfy the requirements really, but I think
what I have specified above is pretty simple to both use and implement.
Most of that is doable, but the containment implications are not
straightforward.

Right now, this is not on the RTM list, but on 14.10 rather.

We have a manual approval path for packages requiring that type of extra
privileges. Ping us back if you have an actual case to implement.

Works here on the base install, so I guess this is something in your
local config.

The HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error in the logs seems to indicate
that the server request fails. Can you try with another FB user account
for example?

Thanks for confirming that the bug is fixed.

And yes, please create separate bugs for the issues you are describing.
Note however that touch support on the desktop is not enabled fo the new
container. It is limited to the mobile platform right now. This is a
known limitation, but worth reporting nonetheless.

instance, when I visit gmail.com, no icon is added to the launcher.
There is a gmail application in the dash, but I believe it's from an
older version: in fact, when I start it, the command line being used
  is:
