[Desktop-packages] [Bug 926423] Re: remmina crashed with SIGSEGV in freerdp_thread_stop()

I have changed jobs since reporting this bug. I no longer have a need
to remotely access Windows machines, nor do I even have access to one to
test on. I am unable to provide any further input on this crash.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1319898] [NEW] Facebook chats duplicated

2014-05-15 Thread David Baucum
Public bug reported:

Whenever someone initiates a Facebook chat with me I get two
notifications of the chat request. In the chat window two separate chats
are created. No matter which chat-tab I reply two, the other person's
replies come back in both tabs.

I ran apt-get remove --purge empathy, and then reinstalled and then
reauthroized my accounts, but the problem persists.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with Empathy 3.8.6

After upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04 I am running into this. I used to
have empathy -h in my startup applications, but now that destroys my
ability to use Empathy since if I start it with the -h flag it is not
possible to bring up the contacts list.

I just ran all updates and here are the test results.

Title:
[Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
For a few years sound did not work on this laptop. Sometime during the

which kernel update broke sound. I will try to install some of the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1284466] Re: [Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-02-25 Thread David Baucum
@Raymond: I see you marked this is Incomplete. What information do you
want me to provide? You seemed to have found the original report against
the kernel, explanation, and patch that was to fix this. After reading I
remember, this had something to do with the detection of headphones not
working quite right.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1284466] Re: [Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-02-25 Thread David Baucum
It seems that I cannot install any kernel before 3.11.0-11. The bug
definitely started before then. I tried 3.14.0 rc from kernel.ubuntu.com
and the problem still shows.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1284466] Re: [Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-02-25 Thread David Baucum
It is like you said. No matter what the left headphone jack always
report to be plugged in. Here is output with nothing plugged into any
port.

david@fink:~$ sudo hda-jack-sense-test
Sigmatel specific Analog Loopback: 0x00 verb ignored for the moment
Pin 0x0a (Black HP Out): present = Yes
Pin 0x0e (Black Line In): present = No
Pin 0x0f (Black Line Out): present = No
Pin 0x21 (Black SPDIF Out): present = No

All of the other jacks toggle on and off as the physical port is plugged
or unplugged.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1284466] Re: [Inspiron 1420, SigmaTel STAC9228, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-02-25 Thread David Baucum
If I plug a microphone into the mic jack then hda-jack-sense-test -a shows it
plugged in. e.g.:
david@fink:~/Downloads$ sudo hda-jack-sense-test -a
Sigmatel specific Analog Loopback: 0x00 verb ignored for the moment
Pin 0x0a (Black HP Out): present = Yes
Pin 0x0b (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x0c (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x0d (Internal Speaker): present = No
Pin 0x0e (Black Line In): present = Yes
Pin 0x0f (Black Line Out): present = No
Pin 0x10 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x11 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x12 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x13 (Internal Mic): present = No
Pin 0x14 (Not connected): present = No
Pin 0x21 (Black SPDIF Out): present = No
Pin 0x22 (Not connected): present = No

I am not sure why I am getting more output now than before. How can I
clear the misc bit?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer

2013-08-20 Thread David Baucum
@Alberto: I have no problem disabling the other services. This is on my
laptop, which is mostly a test machine anyways. I get this issue pretty
infrequently now so it may be a while until it happens again.

Bug description:
[Test Case] Sometimes after one day, sometimes after one week, the
system indicator will turn red and the Google account will be marked
as needing reauthentication. Time can vary, but any period shorter
than one month is a symptom of the bug.

[Regression Potential] Minimal: the change to the Google plugin (in
account-plugins) simply changes the authentication method, in a way
that is well-documented. The change in signon-plugin-oauth2 affects
only those accounts/providers which use the OAuth refresh tokens --
which is only Google, at the moment -- and in a way that can't
possibly break any existing functionality; if the new code had some
mistake, the refresh token would be unusable and the system would
automatically fall back to requesting a new access token (which is
exactly what happens now, with this bug).

  I'll try to find why the account-plugins package was not uploaded;
indeed, both are required in order to fix this bug.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer

2013-08-20 Thread David Baucum
@Alberto: I have no problem disabling the other services. This is on my
laptop, which is mostly a test machine anyways. I get this issue pretty
infrequently now so it may be a while until it happens again.

Thanks a lot, David and Damiano! Your cases seem to be different:

@Damiano: it looks like there is some application which asks to
authenticate with Google using the plain password method, and that's what
generating the error. In fact, from your logs I can see that the OAuth
authentication went on successfully at 13:22:16 and at 13:22:54, but then
at 13:23:00 the password method was used. Since you can reproduce the bug
fairly easily, could you please try disabling evolution from the Online
Accounts panel, logout and then in again? If you could try that for
contacts, mail and calendar one at a time this would help us find the issue
 (I'd bet it's the calendar).
Anyway, when you click on the account to reauthenticate, does it directly
show a form with username and password, or does it send you to the Google
 website?

@David: I know this is quite annoying, but do you think you can disable
the Facebook and the MSN/Live accounts and try again? Since they all
authenticate at the same time, and using the same method (Oauth), it's
impossible to follow the logs. :-(
Also, how often does this happen?

2013-08-19 Thread David Baucum
Attached is the results of what you requested from Joachim. I don't know
if my results are relevant to what you saw in his logs or not. Note that
I changed my google username in the output to misterlizardsquad, which
is not my real username. I also changed the values of the ClientSecrets.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 461631] Re: No sound

2013-08-14 Thread David Baucum
The 3.11 kernle hit Ubuntu 13.10 a couple days ago, but it was causing
all sorts of weirdness, like my sound devices where disappearing. I
updated today and I was just back to no playing. On a hunch I ran
alsamixer. All the settings looked fine, but just playing around I
turned off Auto-Mute Mod and now sound is working just fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 921071] Re: sometimes stop playing when going from an mp3 to an ogg (related to transcoding)

updated.

  Regression potential:
that's a change to gstreamer, playback could be buggy, rhythmbox could stop
playing when it should not

  ---

After upgrading to 12.04, rhythmbox will sometimes stop playing daap
files, only to after a few minutes start playing a different file
  again.

Ie, if I connect to a mt-daapd server running lucid with rhythmbox on
precise, I can play individual files fine. I have selected to have
songs play in random order, and rhythmbox will continue to the next
song fine. Occassionally audio will stop in one of the songs and then
minutes later it will start up again (with no user interaction) in
another song. When it does stop, I can click to fast forward to
another song and it works ok. This does not seem to happen with local
files (I played them for hours with no interruption), only daap served
  files.

I have tried to correlate this with a problem with networking in
precise, but do not see any messages problems in /var/log/syslog that
would indicate a problem. Rhythmbox can play a mixture of ogg and mp3
files fine (ie, it is not a codecs issue). There is nothing in
.xsession-errors when this occurs. I tried to strace rhythmbox at the
time of the problem, but couldn't figure out what was happening.

This worked fine in 11.10 and earlier.

After reading through all the comments it looks like my issue is
different. Going from mp3 to ogg works just fine. It is some other
scenario where playback is stopping for me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 964339] Re: Can't Connect to MSN

2012-05-03 Thread David Baucum
Is this reproducible now ?
Yes.

If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
attach the haze (msn) log file with the bug report ?
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
Open up online accounts and add your Windows Live account. Next open Empathy.
The Windows Live (MSN) connection will fail saying Disconnected - Network
Error

It is probably important to note that if you click Edit Connection
Parameters it brings up the exact same connection configuration options
as a jabber account, with everything at its default settings that you
get when setting up a jabber account. The username is set to
messenger.live.com and the password is blank with Remember password
unchecked.

When I start Evolution, regardless of which workspace I'm presently in,
Evolution always loads in the top-left workspace.
Also, if I compose or reply-to an email, the new mail window comes up in the
top-left workspace.
I keep Evolution in my top-right workspace, so moving to the top-left and then
moving the window over is rather annoying.
I am running Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity.
