[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1909941] Re: xdg-email changes break simple-scan email functionality

2021-01-14 Thread Dik
Just tested claws-mail 3.17.8 -- it works. But 3.17.5 -- doesn't. So,
seems to be a problem in claws-mail

seems, that support of attach was removed from thunderbird and claws-

to invoke an e-mail-Program

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

It is not a bug, its a feature. To speed up the typing. Set the layout
change on CapsLock. (In a case you need old caps behavior, you get it
with shift + Caoslock)

Bug description:
This is a bug about shortcuts mapped to combinations which include
  each other.

For example, if we have Ctrl+Shift (for keyboard layout) and Ctrl+Shift+N (to
open a new terminal), then we are practically unable to use the second
shortcut; this is what happens:
  Ctrl press (nothing happens)
  Shift press (keyboard layout change)
N (a simple N appears, since a shortcut has already fired)

The expected behavior is to fire shortcuts on the release (not on
press) of the special keys (ctrl, shift, alt, etc) which is also how
Windows behave. This is a serious problem for bilingual layouts,
typically using Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift for keyboard layout change.

For users being affected by this problem, the easiest solution for now is to
add this PPA in your repositories:
  https://launchpad.net/~oded-geek/+archive/xorg-patches

Practical summary of this bug for ubuntu developers (since reading 120
comments is impractical for most):
This problem is a really old (since 2004) issue of the xkb part of xorg; the
main discussion was made upstream in freedesktop-bugs #865. There has been a
patch from Ilya Murav'jov for upstream (#55), and attached here (#61).
Upstream xorg has refused to apply the patch, mainly because it "explicitly
contradicts the (xkb) spec" (#84, #91).
This patch has been reported to work for many people without any problems,
and there is also a PPA by Oded Arbel (#95) where he maintains a patched
version of the ubuntu xorg.
The proper resolution of this bug would be to apply this patch to the
upstream xorg, or at minimum to the official ubuntu xorg package.

I would say, that change on Keypress _must_ be the default behavior,
because in an opposite case, there are problems of typing, if toogle in
on CapsLock, and you are typing rapidly.

It seems to be the right way.

On the other side, one could check the dmesg log on the presence of kernel
warning about probably firmware fails, but it's a wrong concept I think.

So, it seems, that not all folk became the solution from
bugzilla.kernel.org. The bug is resolved since 05/2017

It's a firmware issue, that will not be fixed. The workaround is to
disable the Power Save mode of the device.

Ok. The kernel 3.13.* seems to make the bug some kind better. At first:
the stuck appears a a lot fewer times. At second: the bug is another
one. I mean, the errors in dmesg looks different. At third - if the bug
appears it could be recovered with an rf-kill switch on/off.

The kernel 3.13.* is easy to install on the newest ubuntu from older
repos. It works flawless. The one another thing - the bug with a stuck
on resume is also go away.

It seems, that in newer kernels are a lot of regression, that affects
older hardware :( Looks not so good. Because gnu/linux is one of
possibilities to make older hardware good for a work.

Sorry for that emotional post...

No :( The problem still occurs. But not so annoying. There are some days
without it. But sometimes 2-3 times in an hour.
But still better than with iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode

Downgrade the firmware to iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode seems to fix the problem.

Unfortunately I have to report that the problem persists.

A reliable work-around is to include repository sources from Ubuntu
13.04 Raring and installing according cups-packages with:

  sudo aptitude install cups/raring libcups2/raring cups-bsd/raring
  cups-client/raring cups-common/raring cups-daemon/raring cups-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1270849] Re: printer infotec isc 824 does not work

2014-08-11 Thread Malte Dik
Alright,

- up to date Ubuntu 14.04 in the Kubuntu flavor
- Infotec ISC 824
- error_log in attachment
- file i tried to print in next comment (can't see how to attach multiple
attachments)
- file from the print queue in next comment
- i don't know how to subscribe cliddell

- unfiltered sending (via 'lpr -P printer -o psdebug file' and 'lp
-d printer -o psdebug file' works!!!

- the workaround via 'lpadmin -p printer -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops'
does _not_ work
- setting the printer up with the generic postscript driver works, though

I hope this helps. Other files following in the next comments as said
above.

Sincerely,

Malte
