[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1746638] Re: [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] PC freezes and crashes

2018-04-28 Thread Diogo Gomes
Updates of same issue for Ubuntu 18.04:

> WORKAROUND: Use the proprietary nvidia driver.

It's not possible use this workaround because the version 18.04 not
contains any driver to select in the settings.

---

> WORKAROUND: Use PPA from https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu
/graphics-drivers

This workaround dos not work on version 18.04. I have the same random
freeze/crash after using it.

---

> To clarify, after the freeze/crash, are there crash files in
/var/crash?

No, there isn't any files in this location.

---

> Could you please advise when the freeze/crash happens?

It is random.

---

> To clarify, if you use the proprietary nvidia drivers, does the
computer still freeze/crash?

In version 18.04 is not possible choose any drivers.

---

Updated all new logs and photo with prefix 18.04.

Christopher M. Penalver, please tell me if you need more information.

Thank you

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1746638] Re: [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] PC freezes and crashes

2018-04-28 Thread Diogo Gomes
Christopher M. Penalver,

Apologize me, I was just following your past indications that it can be
confirmed after tested on 18.04 and answer at your previous question
like you can confirm.

2) Should I remove the old but equal logs of 16.04 and replace with the
new ones of 18.04?

3) I'm talking about the same issue and same screen, do you need a
screenshot equal to the older one?

Thank you for your time

Christopher M. Penalver,

After upgrading to 18.04, I get the issues again and I can't select any
graphics drivers (empty screen in settings).

Can we change this to confirmed?

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thank you

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1746638] Re: [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] PC freezes and crashes

2018-02-14 Thread Diogo Gomes
Christopher M. Penalver,

I have not had availability to test version 18.04 on a new disc but I
have more information:

- After updating the packages xorg-serverhwe... I decided to test
the Open Source drivers again and got improvements.

- Due to these improvements and to the system crashing less, I detected
a pattern in the crashes. It may not be related but crashes usually
happen when I adjust the size of a window manually.

I'll let you know as soon as I have more information.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1746638] Re: Nouveau graphics driver freezes and crashes

2018-02-01 Thread Diogo Gomes
Once again, it's impossible capture before reboot. The system crashes
tottally.

> In addition, because you haven't tested latest packages and then provide
> useful logs, upstream developers aren't going to be focusing on your issue.
> Some log you grabbed years ago from an old distro isn't useful.
I tested in live and crashes and do not stored any logs, it's the reason why I
didn't upload. I can't do it in a production machine.

> Some log you grabbed years ago from an old distro isn't useful.
I can upload the new if you want, it's same information.

> you may be holding your breath for a fix that never happens
It's disappointing and unprofessional because I already said that I can't use
the system when it crashes

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1746638] Re: Nouveau graphics driver freezes and crashes

2018-01-31 Thread Diogo Gomes
Christopher M. Penalver,

It was what I did. Since the system crashes, I can't do nothing without
reboot manually in the hardware button.

All logs are from reboot after the crash, it's the only way to submit
them.

I remember an error from a year ago that looked like panic kernel.
Something with tens of "00" on the last line before rebooting. But I
can not remember which log is to upload it.

I think it was in the /var/log/journal folder but it does not exist in
this version...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1746638] Re: Nouveau graphics driver freezes and crashes

2018-01-31 Thread Diogo Gomes
These are the logs, when the system crashes, I can't use the system.
These are the logs after reboot after the crash.

I remember that 1 year or so ago, I saw one log finishing with something
like a kernel panic error (with many 00) but I don't remember what
is to upload after the reboot after the crash.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1746638] Re: Nouveau graphics driver freezes or crashes

2018-01-31 Thread Diogo Gomes
1) I have this files in /var/crash but I think that is not related:
_usr_bin_gnome-disks.1000.crash _usr_bin_gnucash.1000.uploaded
_usr_bin_nautilus.1000.upload
_usr_bin_gnome-disks.1000.upload_usr_bin_lutris.1000.crash
_usr_bin_nautilus.1000.uploaded
_usr_bin_gnome-disks.1000.uploaded _usr_bin_lutris.1000.upload
_usr_lib_xdg-desktop-portal_xdg-desktop-portal.0.crash
_usr_bin_gnucash.1000.crash _usr_bin_lutris.1000.uploaded
_usr_lib_xdg-desktop-portal_xdg-desktop-portal.0.upload
_usr_bin_gnucash.1000.upload_usr_bin_nautilus.1000.crash

2) The freeze/crash is random and every time that happens, I need to reboot
manually.

3) Can you explain what log do you need? A screenshot is impossible
because of 2).

4) With proprietary drivers do not crash.

5) This is my production machine and if you don't mind I don't want to
install 18.04 until it's stable. I have 90% sure that is not yet
resolved because I see a lot of bugs related with this (years) and until
now none have been fixed.

I'm able to continue to reporting and testing without replace all system.

(I deleted some attachments with private information. If you need them,
please say me what is and I re-upload it)

Title:
Xorg nouveau graphics driver freezes or crashes

Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm not saying xorg is the culprit, I think problem is graphics related thus
it happens when I choose Nouveau graphics driver instead of proprietary Nvidia.
My GPU is an integrated one and uses shared RAM, this bug is more frequent
when hardware settings are "AUTODETECT FRAME BUFFER SIZE=enabled" otherwise
when it's set to "FIXED=256MB" it isn't that frequent.
The steps to reproduce this bug are not pretty clear, this crash happens at
least once a day, appearently when there's too much memory in use.
I used to use "Nvidia proprietary driver" with Ubuntu 14.10 with less
problems but some crashes correctly managed by system without closing any
application but with Ubuntu 15.04 this crashes make all applications get
closed, that's why I decided to change to Nouveau but it gets so slow. I'm
really considering rollback to Ubuntu 14.10 which caused less problems.
When Systems freezes both keyboard and mouse get irresponsive too. I've
collected some data through SSH which are attached:
"Xorg.0.freezetime.log" is "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" at Freeze moment.
"kikedmesg.txt" is "dmsg.txt" at Freeze moment.
Please contact me with directions to help in solving this issue.
  Some Info:
  1)Ubuntu 15.04 64 bits
  2)xserver-xorg-video-nouveau version 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1

  Regards.

2018-01-11 Thread Diogo Gomes
This is really bad for one of my computers.

The open source drivers crash the system since a few years ago and after
this update I can't use the proprietary drivers there.

Boot with old kernel image from GRUB menu do not seems a workaround
because after the Meltdown and Spectre we can't stand with an outdated
kernel.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1675830] Re: nvidia 304 graphics causes Login loop in Ubuntu Budgie

2017-03-25 Thread Diogo Gomes
Okay, I'm in. I replace the window manager installing compiz and now I
can login with nvidia 304.

Steps:
- Install compiz
- Add "compiz --replace" to autostart
- Install nvidia-304
- Reboot

Result:
In first login, I have a loop and in the second time that I enter password, I
am enable to login.

Notes:
This confirms that is an incompatibility with budgie window manager and nvidia
304.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1675830] Re: nvidia 304 graphics causes Login loop in Ubuntu Budgie

2017-03-25 Thread Diogo Gomes
Yes, I know.

This GPU driver works well in Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, etc.

Only not works in Budgie.

I test install Budgie DE in Ubuntu Mate and I can't login in Bugdie DE
neither, only in Mate DE.

Title:
  xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: X freeze

Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Yesterday, I upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 via 14.04 to 16.04 (LTS
version in each case). From 14.04 on, I was unable to graphically log
in. A few seconds after the login (varying between 1 and 10 s), the
screen changed to a pattern with dense white stripes on the violet/red
background, and X froze (no reaction to mouse or keyboard). The latest
messages in "/var/log/syslog" each time showed varying "nouveau E"
problems, e.g. "unrecognized interupt", "PFIFO", or "PBUS" problems
such as e.g.: "nouveau E[PBUS][:00:0d.0] MMIO write of
0x01f70001 FAULT at 0x00b010" (values and addresses varying).

An internet search revealed that the problem is well known. It affects
many NVidia graphic cards with the "nouveau" driver. Usually, the
freeze happens when e.g. "firefox" is started (which happens in my
context automatically after a graphical login). Most reports recommend
to switch from "nouveau" to the proprietary NVidia driver. However,
there seem to be problems with that driver for recent Ubuntu versions.
I my case, the NVidia driver could not be started (I did not
investigate why). One report suggested the boot parameter
"nouveau.config=NvMSI=0" which in my case made the graphical login
  successful again.

Today, I wanted to report the bug with "ubuntu-bug". However, during the
collection of the system information, the error happened again (despite the
"nouveau.config" boot parameter).
  Syslog gives:
