[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1791493] Re: Unwanted VT switch from alt + arrow keys
There is also a bug filed in 2015 about the same problem, with a barrage of recent comments from 18.04 users: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1508146 I hesitate to mark this a duplicate though, since the 2015 bug is not necessarily the same. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1791493 Title: Unwanted VT switch from alt + arrow keys Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Recently the VT switching shortcut keys changed from ctrl+alt+arrowkeys and ctrl+alt+F-keys to just alt+arrowkeys/f-keys. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1779121] [NEW] mobile broadband is slow to start in wake from suspend (or system startup)
Public bug reported: On a ThinkPad 470s it takes ~ 40 seconds to gain connectivity on wake or startup. The log seems to incidate that there is first a 10 second delay in the kernel recognising the USB device and assigning a serial port to it, and then it takes ModemManager 20 seconds to open the device, and a further 13 seconds to go from unlocking the SIM ("locked" state) to getting an ip address. Apparently it starts in 10 seconds in Windows (see https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/SierraWireless- EM7455-in-X1c5-is-Lenovo-going-to-fix-its-poor/td-p/3716748) so the 40+ seconds it's not a hardware property. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1636716] [NEW] editing files in lxc container over tramp/ssh frequently hangs
Public bug reported: I have a vanilla LXD setup, configured with instructions from https://www.zenly.co.uk/lxd-on-ubuntu-xenial-16-04/ - so both host and container are Ubuntu 16.04. The problem is like the summary says. A workaround that fixes (or makes less frequent?) the hangs: turn off tramp's use of the ssh ControlMaster feature. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1222970] Re: layout options gone from keyboard preferences
No, the Saucy comment is 5 days old: This option has disappeared in Ubuntu Saucy. I'm not sure how to explain this but it is simply not there. The Keyboard preferences have no Layout tab, but there is a layout settings button, and when I click it it takes me to the Input Sources tab of the Region Language panel, which is mysteriously lacking any kind of 'Options' button. The only button there opens up a virtual on-screen keyboard that displays my broken keyboard layout to me with no way of changing which keys behave which way. – Robru Sep 6 at 18:34 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1222970 Title: layout options gone from keyboard preferences Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The icon that looks like it might mean keyboard options is greyed out (the one with the screwdriver icon). Sorry I cannot provide more information - it happens twice now, maybe someone can tell me how to get more information for the next time this happens. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release: 12.04 $ apt-cache policy gnome-settings-daemon gnome-settings-daemon: Installed: 3.4.0-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 3.4.0-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 3.4.0-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.0-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-20.33-generic 3.2.12 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-20-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.95-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Mar 30 17:16:02 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Beta amd64 (20120301) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-settings-daemon UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/969359/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

During the brief window that dnsmasq is restarting, hostname resolution doesn't work. dnsmasq is getting restarted frequently enough that I see brief hostname resolution errors in Chrome several times a day during normal web browsing. This is on Precise with network-manager 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4 and dnsmasq- base 2.59-4. The frequent restarts seem to be triggered by IPv6 route advertisements on my network. (See log snippet below.) When NetworkManager gets a route advertisement, it reconfigures everything. In the case of dnsmasq, this means stopping dnsmasq, writing a new config file, and starting dnsmasq. NetworkManager should restart dnsmasq only if it its configuration changes. I'm attaching a snippet from /var/log/daemon.log on my system that demonstrates a restart. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1100273] Re: transient dns errors
Hmm, bug #1003842 seems to be about a schizophrenic split-dns configuration where you have a mix of internet dns and non-internet dns servers returned from dhcp. But these errors were from browsing the web, eg youtube.com. And I don't see evidence of this kind of dns configuration breakage anyway (name servers have neighboring ip addresses). ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1003842 dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1100273 Title: transient dns errors Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have been getting random site not found errors when web browsing on the campus network and these seem to be cured by disabling the dnsmasq config used by NetworkManager. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1035358] [NEW] bad interaction of ext4 error log vs disk health dialog/gnome-disk-utility
Public bug reported: A dialog pops up saying a hard disk is reporting health problems and the examine button pops up gnome-disk-utility. The smart status of all disks shows as OK. I suspect it's getting the bad vibes from this kernel log message: EXT4-fs (device): error count: 4 EXT4-fs (device): initial error at nnn: __ext4_get_inode_loc:3305: inode : block nnn But there's no obvious way to address this problem in gnome-disk-utility, and it's just the kernel dumping the filesystem error log. see eg this message http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1012.3/00502.html This disk has once upon a time been connected to a flaky cable or controller, and the error log hasn't been cleared because it's an external disk that's mounted using the desktop mount mechanism under /media which doesn't get periodical fsck's. But I guess this would also happen if the error happened in the current setup. So it's probably possible for me to fix it by finding the right partition in the gnome disk utility and clicking the fsck button, but there's no reasonable way a user could know that.
